* AlmostHoldingHands: While Blake is teasing Yang about how she lost her arm, the two reach for each other's hands, then pull back; their movements are slightly out of sync, so they never quite touch. Weiss, who is walking behind them, notices but Ruby doesn't.

* CallBack: In this episode, Blake tries warning the team not to make Alyx's mistakes, and becoming anxious when they do. At the end, Ruby insists on meeting the Red King, snappily telling them to just follow the story and stop pretending they know what they're doing. Back in Volume 1, Ruby makes a similar comment to Weiss, who is pretending she knows where they're going. The difference is attitude: during initiation, Ruby is frustrated with Weiss' bossy and perfectionist personality. Here, Ruby is despairing over how they ended up in the Ever After, her hope is waning, and she's losing her will to keep fighting their corner.

* DramaticIrony: ** Since Weiss doesn't know what happened after she fell, she hopes that Jaune and Winter managed to keep the Relics away from Cinder. The viewers know only Winter made it to Vacuo, they failed to stop the villains obtaining both Relics, and Jaune has fallen into the Ever After, too.

Not sure how to fit this trope.

* GenreSavvy: Blake and Ruby both grew up loving stories, and Blake throws herself into the realisation that they're in the middle of Alyx's story. She predicts future events on the basis of the story, and tries warning her team to avoid making Alyx's mistakes. As a result, the events in town unfold as Blake anticipated, much to her frustration. Ruby eventually dismisses Blake's knowledge, tells the team to stop pretending they know what they're doing, and gives herself over to the whims of the storybook path they're following.

* IntangiblePrice: Jinxy sells a diamond rabbit for a hug, the golden scepter (actually Yang's arm) for the feeling of being loved, and a jade marionette for enough hope to fill a jar. Blake also mentions that Alyx gave up her happiest and saddest memories to get her dagger back. Yang is shocked by the price of giving up the feeling of being loved; when Jinxy's glamour vanishes, she grabs her arm from the soldier that bought it. Ruby is unable to pay the price of filling a jar with hope because she doesn't have enough left, so Little steals the doll the way Jinxy stole from the mice. The heroes have to make a run for it for both reasons.

Removing Plot Parallel misuse (the trope is about how two related plot lines happen at the same time, and the resolution of the one leads to an improved understanding of the other. It's not for audiences making connections to other plotlines that have previously occurred in the work). Combining the Railroading entries due to indentation issues and rewording since Ruby's not telling them to do what Blake suggests (carefully think their way through the story), she tells them to do the opposite (give in to the story's whims and go wherever it leads them). Removing Slapstick Knows No Gender misuse; it's not a trope anymore. Unnaturally Looping Location is clearly not episode-specific this volume. I'm making an entry in the main work page for it.

In exchange for love, hope and affection he offers things that look like what they want instead of what they actually are. Not coincidentally, the façade is removed and the team is forced to take what they need and leave.
* {{Railroading}}: With Blake constantly pointing out they are going on the motions of a storybook, Ruby bluntly suggests they keep doing that.
** Weiss outright refuses this and tries to go straight for their goal, only to find herself looping through the same area over and over again.
* ShipperOnDeck: When Weiss notices Blake teasing Yang’s hand and Yang briefly trying to do the same, Weiss lets out an “About time” at that. Ruby misses this.
* SlapstickKnowsNoGender: Weiss picks up the slack for Ruby in this department, going so far as to get beaned in the head with a rock she threw and ended up wrapping around back to her.

I'm not sure what trope the eulogy falls under, but Informal Eulogy is for something extremely blunt and brief. That's not what Ruby does. She turns Penny into a fairy tale right before our eyes. I don't know which trope to put this under as a result, but definitely feels like a trope of some kind.

* {{Glamour}}: Jinxy's items are all under one to seem like treasures, and the heroes have to guess which one is the item they need. Yang correctly identifies her arm, and Ruby senses that there's something off about the jade puppet before it's revealed to be one of Penny's swords.
* InformalEulogy: Ruby gives a sort of eulogy to Penny when offering her sword as a gift for the King's birthday, describing it as the weapon of a powerful warrior who gave her life for thousands, sent a message of hope to the stars, and saw the world through better eyes. It moves the toy soldiers enough that they cry and immediately agree to bring them to the castle, so that such a precious gift can be given to the King.

Broke Aesop misuse (they're not talking about the tale's Aesop, they're talking about Alyx's characterisation and whether her behaviour is moral). Removing Despair Event Horizon misuse (DEH is a trope about the permanent loss of hope; We can all see that Ruby is heading for a break, but a temporary break is Heroic BSOD and a permenant one is DEH. stop the villains obtaining both Relics, and Jaune has fallen into the Ever After, too.
* GenreSavvy: Blake more than anyone else is taking and Ruby both grew up loving stories, and Blake throws herself into the fairy tale premise realisation that they're in the middle of Alyx's story. She predicts future events on the basis of the Ever After seriously, predicting story, and tries to warn her team to avoid making Alyx's mistakes. As a result, the traps events in Jinxy's auction before town unfold as Blake anticipated, much to her frustration. * GivingUpOnLogic: Weiss does this twice, first when she admits desperately tries to find logic in what they're experiencing, such as initially dismissing Blake's conclusion they're in a fairy tale and the idea that Blake has a point, and then again when she can't just get walk straight to the tree.

* {{Glamour}}: Jinxy's items are all under one to seem like treasures, and the heroes have to guess which one is the item they need. Yang correctly identifies her arm, and Ruby senses that there's something off about the jade puppet before it's revealed to be one of Penny's swords.

Added DiffLines:

* OffTheRails: In the original story, Alyx had to barter with Jinxy for her dagger. Yang and Little wind up just grabbing their items and running for it, much to Blake's horror.

* NotHelpingYourCase: When Weiss disagrees with Blake's assessment that Team RWBY are in a fairy tale, she tries to figure things out logically. After listing every improbable thing that's happened - Ruby befriending a talking mouse, Weiss and Blake being captured by living vines, Yang losing her arm to a talking raccoon - Weiss awkward admits that Blake might have something.
