* AdultFear: In the months following the loss of her arm, Yang lingers at home, spending her time in front of the television or doing household chores. Taiyang tries to cheer her up, but she remains quiet and moody. He goes out of his way to find out if it's possible to get her a replacement limb, but she doesn't want anything to do with it. When she's in the kitchen, she drops a glass and freaks out as she suffers a flashback to the moment she lost her arm. Unknown to her, Taiyang witnesses this and disappears silently into another room. In a supernatural fantasy show, the scenes where he is forced to helplessly watch the depression and PTSD that follows major limb loss overwhelming his once vibrant and larger-than-life daughter unfold in a very real, human way.

The last channel she flicks onto, catches her attention immediately and shockingly; it is showing a picture of Adam as the newsreader comments on confirmation that Adam Taurus was leading the White Fang charge into Beacon. This identifies to her the person who cut off her arm.

The captain organises the plan that defeats the Grimm, rather than Blake or Sun figuring out what to do, and Sun uses the experience as a spring board for pointing out that things are now too dangerous in Remnant for anyone (such as Blake) to be travelling alone.

** That Yang would not accept and not use Ironwood's artificial arm replacement was also easy to see, seeing as both the opening and new outfit advertisements don't have one.

* YourTelevisionHatesYou: Yang decides to just watch TV, and every single channel has to do with the fall of Beacon. A more justified example considering the circumstances though.

* AllThereInTheManual: The floating jellyfish-like Grimm is called a Seer, according to the Rooster Teeth Twitter.

* GenreSavvy:
** Salem doubts that Ozpin is actually dead (what with the [[NeverFoundTheBody lack of body]] and all) so she makes it a point of having Cinder, who struggles to just whisper, say it out loud that she did kill him. Even after Cinder says yes, she seems to still not believe it, but doesn't fight her over it.
** Sun points out that even if Blake is avoiding the White Fang they are most likely going to come after her.

* PutOnABus: Sage, Scarlet and Neptune are all back in Mistral, while Sun was following Blake. Since none of them appear in the opening, it's unlikely they will be back.
