That doesn't apply to monster mooks, but the Grimm that ate Roman did not survive. It blew up partially to make it clear to the audience that Roman was definitely gone and wouldn't be coming back.

* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: After Ruby forces Neo off the ship, she says she's going to stop him regardless of what he tries. Executing a volley of moves to regain the upper-hand, Roman points out to Ruby how dangerous Remnant is, people who try being heroic just get themselves killed, and the only thing Huntsmen do well is die young.

Added DiffLines:

* SedgwickSpeech: Roman goes on a furious rant when he believes Ruby has been beaten. In his arrogance, he completely ignores the on-going battle and the numerous flying Grimm all around him. His speech is cut short when a large Grimm lands behind him and swallows him.

* BaitAndSwitch: Blake gets between Adam and Yang, and it looks like Adam decapitates her for it. It then turns out to be a shadow-decoy so Blake can escape with Yang.

Trope misuse; cut as per the Reality Ensues clean-up thread.

* RealityEnsues:
** Neo can't open her umbrella while on the outside of the ship, as the winds would drag it, and her, right into freefall. So Ruby opens it for her.
** The episode title is a callback to Ruby's motivations in ''The Shining Beacon, Pt. 2''. She heroically launches herself up to the hijacked ship and takes on Roman and Neo herself. However, she's completely outmatched and nearly killed. Roman not only mocks her idealism, but is stopped by a Grimm, ''not'' her, that's attracted to the negativity of his MotiveRant. At the same time, however, she's gotten smarter in her actions and she refuses to lay down, thus she's taken Qrow's words to heart.
** Blake's goal of gaining equality and peace is thrown back in her face; such lofty concepts aren't easily attained, especially when others like Adam are actively fighting against it. Rather than using her Semblance for mere evasion, she uses it to ''defend'' Yang. Despite her determination ''not'' to run again, she is ultimately forced to do so.
** Yang wanted to be a Huntress not to be a hero, but for the adventure. She stated that she wants, "a life where I won't know what tomorrow will bring." [[BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor She's got it now; Vale has descended into chaos]], her fiery, straightforward approach to battle has cost her dearly, there was no last-minute save from her mother this time, and her fighting style will never be the same again.

Trope shoehorning. The trope is to establish that a character is not as bad as he first seems, not that he's devoid of the ability to care about someone in his life. The scene doesn't have the chance to go anywhere in the way the Pet The Dog trope requires. It's just a moment of a concern for someone who might have been sent to her death.

* PetTheDog: The previously JerkAss Roman expresses that he cares for Neo when she falls off the airship.

This is a recap page. It shouldn't have a detailed account of everything that occurred in the episode, just a few quick lines.

The battle for Beacon continues as Ruby, now on top of the ship that Roman Torchwick has hijacked, confronts both him and Neo. Although both of them get the upper hand at first, Ruby pulls off clever tricks that end up with Neo flying off the ship, leaving her final fate currently unknown, While Roman then fights Ruby to the point of victory only to be suddenly eaten by a Griffin and killed. Ruby then defeats the Griffin and causes the ship to crash, while she uses Cresent Rose to make a safe landing. In Vale, Ironwood ends up surviving his crash and joins Qrow and Glynda on the battlefield. Meanwhile at Beacon, the remaining students struggle to take down Atlesean Paladins, until Velvet steps in and utilizes her weapon/semblance, which turns out to copy the powers and abilities of all the weapons and their wielders she takes a photo of. With the aide of Weiss - who manages to further grasp her summoning to call upon the blade of the giant Knight she fought long ago - the students gain the upper-hand against the Paladins.

Blake confronts Adam in Beacon's cafeteria, but is overpowered. Adam declares he will destroy everything she loves as revenge for betraying him. Yang Xiao Long, having stumbled onto the scene after a tip-off from Weiss, attempts to attack Adam after seeing him stab Blake, but Adam manages to make a swift stroke that cuts off Yang's right arm, leaving her unconscious and severely injured. Before Adam can finish her off, Blake uses her semblance to buy her an opportunity to escape with Yang in tow. Finally, down in the vault, Ozpin, Jaune, and Pyrrha oversee the process to transfer Amber's aura to Pyrrha, who finally makes the decision to receive the Fall Maiden's powers. Unfortunately, in the middle of the process Cinder fires an arrow through Amber, killing her and receiving her remaining power instead. Ozpin orders Pyrrha and Jaune to find Ironwood and the others while he prepares to face Cinder - now in possession of all the Fall Maiden's powers - alone...

Wham Episode misuse.

* WhamEpisode: By the end of this episode Neo is in an unknown status, Roman was eaten by a Grimm, Velvet's weapon was finally revealed, Weiss unlocks her summoning powers, Blake was stabbed by Adam, Adam cuts Yangs arm off, and Cinder kills Amber and takes her power thus becoming the Fall Maiden. On top of all this the episode ends with Ozpin preparing to fight Cinder
