* AdaptationInducedPlothole: The anime adds a flashback showing that Hody's admiration for Arlong began when he saved Hody and his friends (who were kids at the time) from humans trying to kidnap them. This contrasts with the canonical, plot-relevant reveal that Hody is a product of his environment, and humans never personally harmed him in any way.

** The only reason the battle against Hody lasts as long as it does is because Zoro, and then later, Luffy, end up fighting underwater. Zoro ends up passing out from lack of oxygen while Luffy has to content with being stuck in a tiny bubble in the middle of the ocean and the weakening power of the sea. Considering the damage the two end up inflicting on Hody during their respective fights it really goes to show how much stronger the two have become thanks to their training.

** Hody Jones. The guy wants to go against the World Government and the Marines with a gigantic army, pill-popping army. He's worse than Arlong, and seems like a legit threat. Then Zoro beat him. With one slash. ''Underwater''. ** The anime also adds a flashback showing that his admiration for Arlong began when he saved Hody and his friends (who were kids at the time) from humans trying to kidnap them, [[AdaptationInducedPlotHole but]] this contrasts with the canonical, plot-relevant reveal that humans have never personally harmed him. However, it might not be a contradiction as this doesn't seem to be the driving force behind his actions against humans, as Hody appears to have chosen to persecute humans just for the sake of doing so, even before this event took place, as he was a young child upon embracing his malice, and had started attacking humans on purpose by the time this event took place.

* HiddenDepths: The flashbacks of this retroactively give this to ''Arlong'' of all people. It turns out the greedy, cruel Fish-Man supremacist we saw in the [[Recap/OnePieceArlongArc Arlong arc]] is in reality a DirtyCoward with a InferioritySuperiorityComplex who doesn't believe most of the rhetoric he spews. The real reason he was in the East Blue is because after getting his ass kicked by the very human Borsalino (the future Admiral Kizaru) and his "brother" Jimbei, he realized he'd never measure up to the (mostly human) top tier fighters that roamed the Grand Line. So, he ran off to the weakest sea in the world in order to find any sort of personal success as a pirate. While he does legitimately hate humans, all of Arlong's actions prove that he doesn't actually believe Fish-Men are the superior species and that most of his boasting is about propping up his ego more than anything else.
