* MicroDieting: All the restaurants on Restaurant Row serve bland food in very small portions. This is to cater to the tastes of restaurant critic Zesty Gourmand, who prefers food prepared in that style and will not give any restaurant a three-hoof rating without it.

*PawprintStamping: Zesty Gourmand gives a three-hoofprint rating to any restaurant she approves of, which in practice means any restaurant with the small servings and bland flavors she likes.

Just not an example then. Aversion must explain how it is notable for the series/genre.

* ArmorPiercingQuestion: {{Averted|Trope}}. The Canterlot citizens say they will only eat at three-hoof-rated restaurants; Pinkie and Saffron never ask if they actually ''like'' the food.

* BadReviewThreat: Zesty Gourmand has been using her position as Canterlot's top critic to force every restaurant in the city to conform to her tastes, on pain of not receiving her three hoof rating.

* {{Foreshadowing}}: An early scene with Pinky and Rarity eating at a series of identical restaurants with identical entrees and identical waiters is a hint to Zesty's power over the restaurant industry in Canterlot.

* {{Foreshadowing}}: During the scene where Zesty waits for her order, two tourists comment on how they hope the (newly refurbished) Tasty Treat can offer something with flavor for a change. While Zesty frames their opinion as being "[[ThisLoserIsYou lower class]]", the fact they're craving some ''good'' food is a symptom that Canterlot (and by extent its other restaurants) are in desperate need of breaking the mold, instead of pandering to Zesty's specific tastes.

* BothSidesHaveAPoint: Played with. During the montage of Rarity and Pinkie Pie helping Coriander and Saffron respectively, both ponies prove they're ''not'' as good at their tasks as they thought they were. Rarity said she could spruce up the Tasty Treat to be better, but instead caters to Zesty's standards to make it like every cookie-cutter restaurant in Canterlot. And while Pinkie Pie has the right idea that the Tasty Treat should remain the same unique establishment it is, she too fails at her task of convincing other ponies to come to the restaurant. Later on, Rarity realizes they were ''both'' right in how to go about saving the Tasty Treat; the problem was they were doing the wrong jobs. Instead, Rarity uses her fame as a fashionista to bring other ponies over (thus [[Meaningfulecho catering]] to their wish to be convinced by some pony famous). And Pinkie Pie goes all out to apply her viewpoint that the restaurant needs to be as unique as ever before.

* WhatTheHellHero: Pinkie and Rarity both call each other out when they find out the other did nothing to help the restaurant like they thought they would: Rarity for changing the atmosphere to match every other restaurant, and Pinkie for failing to convince anyone to come.

* ItsAllAboutMe: Zesty Gourmand thinks that her (and ''only'' her) opinion is valid, even when many other ponies think that a restaurant is good. This has actually caused Restaurant Row to become a frankly terrible place to eat, as none of the restaurant owners enjoy cooking and every restaurant is the same because that's what she likes while she doesn't give anything else a chance.

Zesty Gourmand and Anton Ego don't actually have that much in common aside from both being Caustic Critics. Aside from Ego being less of a jerk, Ego has very high standards but is still willing to eat most foods as part of his job, while Zesty's problem is that she has a very specific taste in food and refuses to try anything else.

* {{Expy}}: Zesty Gourmand is a GenderFlipped expy of Anton Ego from ''WesternAnimation/{{Ratatouille}}''. However, while Ego was ultimately a JerkWithAHeartOfGold who actually did end up giving that movie's main restaurant a chance, Zesty remains a stubborn {{Jerkass}} who refuses to even consider it -- even in front of an entire crowd of restaurant-goers who feel otherwise.
