* HeroicBSOD: Just about everyone is miserable after not being able to fly and see their families, but Peggy and Luanne take it really hard; Peggy hears about good weather in Montana and them going swimming and Luanne's father had to go back to the oil rig.

* YankTheDogsChain: It seems like the airport manage to take care of the weather problems and the Hills board a plane and just as they seem like they're about to go, it then gets delayed again. Bonus points for Hank who not only has to deal with that, but also with the bomb squad blowing up his turkey.

* NotBloodNotFamily: When Peggy asks Hank why he didn't buy Luann a ticket months before when they were cheaper, Hank responds that he bought tickets for the Hill family, and since Luann is not a Hill, he felt no need to buy her a ticket, or at the very least tell her she needs to buy her own.

* ArtisticLicenseAnimalCare: Hank's turkey [[spoiler:is destroyed when bomb-sniffing dogs detect it in a box and bark at it, leading to it being blown up]]. Bomb-sniffing dogs are specially trained to ignore food during training and if a dog is unable to resist, it does not become a bomb-sniffer.
* ArtisticLicenseExplosives: One [[spoiler:Hank's turkey is mistaken for a bomb]] just as it's about to be loaded into the cargo hold, the bomb squad lays down a charge and blows it up right then and there. Needless to say, no bomb squad would '''EVER''' detonate explosives right next to a fully-loaded jumbo jet, especially to blow up a potential bomb as the explosives blowing up could result in the bomb detonating.

** Kahn and his family are going to fly abroad, presumably to see their family in Laos.

** Peggy is shown to be a bit pragmatic here by encouraging Bobby to cut through the line at an Asian restaurant to get some beef stew, but gets stopped by Hank. She even believes the rumor about TWA honoring all tickets and lies to Hank about them taking all flights.

* BadLiar: Bill, looking for a reason to tag along with Hank and the neighbors to the airport, makes up a fake uncle he's picking up, to which he couldn't even keep his name consistent: first Bill, then Stan, then Stu before settling on Stan. And with Bill driving Hank and the family to the motel, Hank and Peggy question why Bill would leave his "uncle" home alone. And in the end he admitted he made it up, which they replied that they know.
* BatmanGambit: A small one, but to get Hank to go to the TWA gate so they can get their flight after Hank is shown to be stubborn, Peggy has Bobby point him to a bakery to that direction and has him run for it, then tells Hank to chase him. After Hank catches Bobby, Peggy then lies and tells Hank that TWA is flying to Montana.
* BedroomAdulteryScene: Narrowly averted. Desperate for a smoke, Dale goes into a van, that's on display and roped off and gets ready to light his cigarette, but then gets caught by a security guard. After he leaves, Nancy and John Redcorn's heads pop up.
* BittersweetEnding: Everyone has missed their flights and are totally miserable, but Hank gets in good spirits and reminds them that they have each other and have their own Thanksgiving dinner by cooking a left-over pizza Kahn still has with Hank's propane grill. And Peggy talks about making a Brown Betty [[MacGyvering with the pizza crust and some margarine and sugar packs.]]

* LiteralMinded: At the checkout when they first arrive, the guard asks Hank if he packed their own bags and if they been in his sight at all times. Hank says he had to set them on the curb when he unloaded them from the trunk and when the guard asks if they were in his sight, Hank says he had his back turned for a minute. Hank takes the guard quite literally out of fear of committing perjury. Then the security had to check the bags and the guard then acquired again if it's just the two bags. Hank confirms it and then pulls out his tank of propane, which [[HereWeGoAgain exasperates the guard]] while trying to assure him [[SkewedPriorities it was in his sight the entire time.]]

* OverreactingAirportSecurity: When the airport staff mistaken Hank's turkey for a bomb, leaving the bomb squad to come by and destroy it.
* PetTheDog: Kahn wishes the Hills a Happy Thanksgiving after taunting them over leaving for the airport too early. And him rescuing Dale after being locked outside.

** Subverted by Hank. While trying to take the high road throughout the episode, but after the delays and having his turkey get blown up get to him, Hank decides to play dirty when he hears of a shuttle bus taking them to another airport clear across town. When a man asks Hank about if he learned anything, he lies to him, before he has Peggy and Bobby make a go for it at the bus. They narrowly make it on, but after Hank sees the same man and his family looking pitiful at the bus, Hank gives in and lets the family take the last spot.
* RuleOfThree: Hank uses baseball analogy whenever Peggy attempts to get Hank to take a different approach like flying on a different plane or trying to beat the other people at a motel. Peggy earns "strike 1" after lying to Hank about TWA flying out to Montana and quickly earns "strike 2" when she scoffs at him. And later on, with the shuttle buses to the motel, getting too full, Hank wants to wait for another bus, but Peggy pushes the family to try to beat them there, when Bill comes around and has him drive the family. But after he crashes his car and forcing the others to walk the rest of the way, only to have it completely occupied, she earns "strike 2-and-a-half", before they walk back to the airport.

** Hank and Peggy going to Montana. Peggy and her mother having some conflict over cooking, with Peggy wanting to make her Brown Betty and Hank smoking his turkey with propane to prove to Peggy's mother how good propane is.
** Boomhauer to see his mother in Florida.
** Luanne looking forward to seeing her father, who's on a day pass, ever since her mother stabbed him with a fork.
** John Redcorn about to see his family in Arizona, with Nancy "escorting" him to the gate. And a minor subplot with Dale looking for a place to smoke, only to end up locking himself outside.

** Kahn and his family to fly, presumably to see family in Laos.
