*{{Out of Focus}}: With this being a Jake and Amy episode, the rest of the characters don't appear much, Boyle has a couple of cameos in the first few minutes and is absent for the rest of the episode. Holt has a cameo in the opening scene and is a supporting character in a scene that lasts a few minutes but doesn't appear in any other scene. Also Terry and Rosa are absent in the first half and last quarter. (Except for Terry with a background cameo at the end.)

Jake explicitly did not know who the real assassin was until he saw her with the bomb.

* BothSidesHaveAPoint: Jake and Amy both make fairly good arguments as to their position on having kids.

* CallBack: Jake, after securing the bomb, uses the same joke Amy said in her vows ("Your butt is da bomb").

* ForcedIntoEvil: Pam was basically tricked into triggering the bomb, being told that her granddaughter will get money if she does.

* SpottingTheThread: When they realize that the mobster that was sent was a decoy, Jake realizes that Pam was the real assassin, likely based on how much time she spent in the victim's room.

Added DiffLines:

* EurekaMoment: Jake remembers Terry's story about one of his girls distracting him while the other steals from the cookie jar and realises the criminals are doing the same thing. Terry himself is confused when he uses this metaphor.

Added DiffLines:

* KnowWhenToFoldEm: Jake at first tries to go along with Amy's debate idea for deciding whether to have children, but when it becomes clear he can't beat her using logic he just tells her this is a stupid way to decide and opens up about his worries about not being a good father.

* MixedAncestryIsAttractive: While staking out a hospital room, Amy (Cuban) and Jake (white Jewish) reveal to an [[RacistGrandma older woman]] that they are thinking about having kids. She remarks that mixed babies are the cutest, to Jake and Amy's slight discomfort.

Brick Joke: "adults and teens"

Added DiffLines:

* BrickJoke: early in the episode, long before the "devastatingly sad conversation" about having children, Santiago points out that "the {{Film/Bumblebee}} movie", a film Peralta wants to see, is a kids' movie. Peralta retorts that it's "for teens." Later in the episode, when Jeffords explains that, as a father, he never gets to watch anything that isn't a kids' movie, Peralta is disgusted:
-->'''Jake:''' I don't want to watch kids' movies. I want to watch movies for adults... adults and teens!

* Double Standard: Amy more or less gets away with the way she treated Jake due to having a valid argument, however roles reversed it's very likely Jake would have been torn to shreds if he acted the way she did
** if he first tried to crush/humiliate her in a debate he knew she had no chance in and involved other people (instead of just talking to her, on the same day she made him such a nice anniversary no less)
** then paid a fine to a judge who rather cruelly punished Amy for being "too emotional" after she shared some deeply personal reason about why she was afraid to have kids (and linked it to her upbringing)
** then started pressuring her into giving him an answer within a month max a few min later (without even addressing her concerns)
** then talked about starting over with very little difficulty when she pointed out he still had time and asked why he was being so rough on her
** then walked out of the room when she was hurt (infront of everyone no less), bragged he did that to leave her alone with Terry, right after thanking Rosa for her offer to bully her into it, and was not only barely phased at the thought of his marriage ending, he was actually shown to be preoccupied with a waterpark
** if the episode then ended with Amy conceding, and not caring about how poorly she was treated, there would be quite a bit of backlash
** even if the bio clock argument was evened out by saying Jake was stressed about getting too old to get another woman of child bearing age (very difficult to do once he passes 40)
