* ThouShallNotKill: Coulson refuses to use deadly forces on "real" S.H.I.E.L.D. agents he considers them S.H.I.E.L.D. regardless and actually sympathizes with their point of view, much to Hunter's chagrin.

* UndyingLoyalty: Gonzales states that Coulson's ability to inspire this in others makes him more dangerous than a Gifted, which shows in the reactions of his team.

* UnexplainedRecovery: Jiaying, who we last saw as a corpse [[StuffedIntoTheFridge dumped into the woods]] by Whitehall, is alive and kicking. She has a few scars on her face, but looks no less worse for wear. WordOgGod is that Cal stitched her back together so her HealingFactor could do the rest.

** The fact that Jiaying is still alive paints her character in a very different light. To avenge her, Cal had gone through extreme measures, such as taking a PsychoSerum, sacrificing part of his sanity in the process. Not only didn't she stop him, but her disciple and successor Gordon (whose EstablishingCharacterMoment was him crying in Jiaying's arms, grateful that he had her to guide him) only showed him contempt, calling him an experiment and not "one of them". Also, she apparently charged him with finding their daughter, Daisy, but when he succeeded, she didn't allow him to see her. Alternately, nobody bothered to tell him she was still alive -- he's been at Lai Xi for a little while now, there's been time for him to no longer be shocked she's not as dead as he thought.
** WordOfGod is Cal stitched her back together so she could use her powers to heal after her vivisection, so he already knew she was alive for a while. Still, she doesn't seem that grateful judging by her treatment of him.

* CassandraTruth: Despite Bobbi being the mole of Coulson's team, Gonzales has a bad habit of ignoring her whenever her facts don't fit his world-view. After Gordon rescues Skye, Gonzales assumes him to be working for Coulson, despite Bobbi pointing out that they've encountered the guy all of twice and don't even know his name. Gonzales claims Coulson was probably hiding his existence and they'll likely find proof in the Toolbox.

* CassandraTruth: Despite being the mole of Coulson's team, Gonzales has a bad habit of ignoring Bobbi whenever her facts don't fit his world-view. After Gordon rescues Skye, Gonzales assumes him to be working for Coulson, despite Bobbi pointing out that they've encountered the guy all of twice and don't even know his name. Gonzales claims Coulson was probably hiding his existence and they'll likely find proof in the Toolbox.

** There's something ''off'' about Lai Xi. It has many characteristics of a cult: communal lifestyle, social isolation, members who join for the promise of ascension but only a few can be chosen, cryptically named leadership (the elders); also, one of the leaders is omnipresent, so BigBrotherIsWatching is not to far-fetched. They also have a prison with no windows where a guy can smash things and scream his lungs out and nobody will notice a thing. There's also the fact that Jiaying did not reveal herself as Skye's mother, though it's understandable that she might want to drop that bombshell under less tense circumstances (and in private).

** Hunter tells Coulson he's one of the few people in the world he'd throw down for without a second thought, while he would do the same for Gonzales if Hell froze over.

* BondOneLiner: After using a poker hologram to distract Real!SHIELD agents and using ICERs on them, Coulson says "We had the better hand."

* UndyingLoyalty:

Lai Xi provides personal "transitioners" and mentors to help smooth the process. Raina proves to be a special case because the Inhumans can't figure out what her "gift" is supposed to be.

* BadassBoast: May does one on behalf of Coulson. Gonzales doesn't need to look for Coulson. When Coulson's ready, he'll find Gonzales.

* GuiltRiddenAccomplice: While Mack is quite comfortable with what "real S.H.I.E.L.D." did and only regrets Fitz considering him a traitor, Bobbi is clearly a lot more conflicted about what's going on. Her co-workers certainly aren't helping matters by doubling down on the FantasticRacism and ignoring her.

* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: PlayedForLaughs, the car retailer clearly thought he was scoring another middle-aged guy in a middle of a mid-life crisis. Unfortunately, his customer just happened to be a master spy whose [[ItMakesSenseInContext tiger was loosed a long time ago.]]

* GildedCage: How Skye views the Inhumans' Compound: nobody knows where it is, and only Gordon is allowed to leave (and take people with him) and make contact with the outside world.
* GodzillaThreshold: Coulson goes to seek Ward, since he's out of options and he's the only one who knows anything about Cal, he considers him his best hope of finding Skye.

* HowDoIShotWeb: The Inhumans can't figure out what Raina's powers are supposed to be.

* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Skye is left in the dark on how life in the Inhumans' Compound actually works, that her dad is a prisoner there, and that her mentor is also her mother. At least in the former case, Lincoln does explain most of it when asked. He's just used to people knowing this already.

* NextTierPowerUp: Mike Peterson's appearance is much sleeker and clean than his last appearance, his face looks more normal (albeit still heavily scarred), and he's packing new weapons such as his EMP missiles.

* NotHelpingYourCase: Bobbi is still insisting that Coulson isn't stockpiling Gifted individuals, but Gonzales isn't exactly reassured after Skye took out seven agents by herself, someone else teleported her to safety, and a cyborg helped save Coulson from his retrieval squad.

** In an example not from that one confrontation, Bobbi thought she'd scored big getting Simmons to open the Toolbox. Turns out it was all a ploy to get the Toolbox away from Gonzales.

* TheShangriLa: Lai Xi (referred to in English as "Afterlife"), the Inhumans' hideout, is an obvious example.

** For that matter, Coulson didn't tell Hunter (or the audience) anything presumably to see his face when "real" S.H.I.E.L.D. brought in the one weapon that could make short work of the house's defenses, only to casually pull out a card deck and ask Hunter if he played.
* UndyingLoyalty: Fitz and Simmons refuse to betray Coulson, so they concoct a plan to smuggle the Toolbox out of HQ right under Gonzales' nose.

** For that matter, Jiaying, last seen apparently dead in a ditch.

* WeUsedToBeFriends: Fitz to Mack, after Mack's involvement in "real" S.H.I.E.L.D.'s coup.

* CrazyPrepared: Played for laughs with Hunter, who always keeps whiskey and a pair of shot glasses on hand.
* CuttingTheKnot: Coulson tries to haggle with Honest Eddie over a beaten up SUV. Honest Eddie instead tries to offer him a tricked out jeep which is more expensive... which Hunter has just decided to steal outright. Coulson is forced to shoot Eddie with an ICER to make a getaway.

** Word for word from Coulson, after being ambushed by the second cloaked Quinjet.

** Gonzales again, referring to Skye as a "[[ItIsDehumanizing thing]]" and Gordon as a freak," and blaming Skye for injuring his agents in self-defense. Bobbi angrily calls him out on it.

* HowDoIShotWeb: The Inhumans can't figure out what Raina's powers are suppose to be.

* ItIsDehumanizing: Gonzales makes a point of referring to those with powers with either insults like "thing" or freak", or generalizing them as "powered people". Bobbi calls him on this, not that it helps.
* KickTheDog: Cal has been kept prisoner in the compound in a room with no doors or windows and he does ''not'' take Gordon's refusal to let him see Skye well; it's worse when his own wife turns down that same request (although much more gently than Gordon does).

** Finallly, he says S.H.I.E.L.D. shouldn't be divided... when he's the one deliberately antagonizing Coulson's S.H.I.E.L.D. while Coulson ''wanted to recruit him''. May calls him on this. Surprise, surprise, she's ignored.

** Coulson's plan of hijacking the Quinjet was flawless, except for that second cloaked one that had enough troops to easily surrounded them.
** Finally, the super strong, super fast, super well armed cyborg showing up out of nowhere probably wasn't something Gonzales planned for.

* PetTheDog: Fitz is allowed to leave amicably when he refuses to work for "real" S.H.I.E.L.D.
** Overlaps with BaitTheDog, Gordon brought Jiaying for Cal, only for her to tell him he's not allowed to see their daughter.

* UnexplainedRecovery: Jiaying, who we last saw as a corpse dumped into the woods by Whitehall, is alive and kicking. She has a few scars on her face, but looks no less worse for wear.

* VaguenessIsComing: Gordon tells Cal that his violent behavior have decided the fate of him and Skye.
