Given that the character of ComicBook/{{Venom}} is considered to be one of ''the'' supervillains/[[AntiHero anti-heroes]] that ushered in UsefulNotes/TheDarkAgeOfComicBooks, and that this movie is an adaptation of a peak-[[TheNineties Nineties]] storyline, it's safe to assume that this movie has its fair share of [[{{Pun}} Ve-narm]]. Naturally, it all falls into NarmCharm for some.

* Towards the end of the film, it's revealed that [[spoiler: Venom used to be something of a loser on his home planet, like Eddie]]. ''This'' is his entire reason for wanting to save the Earth.

* Drake having bonded with Riot is treated as a huge shocking twist going into the final battle... except the audience was already well aware of it and saw the whole process. It feels very much like a consequence of ExecutiveMeddling to give Riot more screentime.
* Right after Eddie is separated from the symbiote, a rather obvious ADR overdub replaces the intended "[[PrecisionFStrike fuck you]]" with the much less vicious "we're done".

* After Venom heals Eddie's broken legs, he flatly states "My legs! They were broken...and now they're not broken..."
* "HOSPITAL!!!! (extremely long pause) Now!"

* The JumpScare (on both sides of the fourth wall) where Venom suddenly shouts Eddie's name as he brushed his teeth would have been ''much'' more scary if not for the fact that the latter ScreamsLikeALittleGirl.
* Remember how creepy and awesome that shot from the second trailer of the symbiote forming around Eddie's face in order to eat a guy was? In the third trailer, the potential NightmareFuel of that moment is significantly [[NightmareRetardant undercut]] by Venom ''[[LecherousLicking slobbering all over the man's face]]'' with its tongue in an [[LargeHam amusingly over-the-top manner]]. One is reminded of the scene with [[WesternAnimation/SpongebobSquarepants Patrick licking the yellow popsicle]]. Or perhaps [[Manga/JojosBizarreAdventure "This is the taste of a liar"...]]

* HOSPITAL!!!! (extremely long pause) Now!
* Eddie [[spoiler:and Anne]] quite casually discussing [[ImAHumanitarian cannibalism]] as one of the symbiote's favorite activities. Something that would probably sincerely shock and disgust the average person and likely require therapy, and it's bandied about like it's a pretty normal occurrence.

* [[spoiler:Kasady promising that there will be "carnage" after he gets out]] is so on-the-nose that it feels like it's straight out of a parody.

* Towards the end of the film, it's revealed that [[spoiler: Venom used to be something of a loser on his home planet, like Eddie]]. This is his entire reason for wanting to save Earth.
* Despite angrily forcing Eddie to spit out cooked meats because they're no longer living animals, the symbiote develops a taste for ''tater tots'', and it practically demands Eddie buy some during a conversation in the ending. The director [[https://www.syfy.com/syfywire/why-the-ultimate-venom-is-obsessed-with-tater-tots-according-to-director-ruben-fleischer admitted in an interview]] that the writers just thought it was funny and put it in the script. It unfortunately invites comparisons to a similar tots-focused scene in ''Film/NapoleonDynamite'' as a result.

* Even the cross-promotions haven't eased up on the Narm, as a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DA9-ROw-PI crossover ad]] with ESPN Sportscenter showed. While the ad is obviously supposed to be comedic in nature, it's hard not to be distracted both by the [[ConspicuousCGI low-quality CGI]] and how [[SpecialEffectsFailure shriekingly obvious]] it is that Tom Hardy filmed this on a separate set and was not actually in the same room with anyone else.
* One of the taglines is simply “See the movie.” It’s honestly like the marketing guys just categorically refused to put any thought into it at all.

** The official trailer using ''Redshift'' by Audiomachine (a song already severely overused in fan-trailers) barely ''a month'' after Marvel Studios had released the second trailer for ''Infinity War'', which used the ''exact same song'' (although they at least had the decency to edit it to fit the Avengers theme.) To make things worse, the trailer was released only several days before the world-wide release of ''Infinity War'', meaning a lot of people were checking out both trailers and could immediately notice the similarities.

* The CGI around Eddie's face whenever the symbiote hears a high frequency just always looks...off.
* The animation of the yellow symbiote just looks like mozzerella cheese come to life.

* The movie treats "Venom" and "Riot" as the symbiotes' real names, rather than aliases or codenames as they are in the comics. Apparently, symbiote names are just [[DarkAgeOfSupernames badass-sounding]] [[FridgeLogic Earth words]].

* Any menace from [[spoiler: Cletus Kasady]] is completely undercut by Woody Harrelson's truly ridiculous wig. A common comparison is that it causes him to look like a live-action [[WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons Sideshow Bob]].

* Remember how creepy and awesome that shot from the second trailer of the symbiote forming around Eddie's face in order to eat a guy was? In the third trailer, the potential NightmareFuel of that moment is significantly [[NightmareRetardant undercut]] by Venom ''[[LecherousLicking slobbering all over the man's face]]'' with its tongue in an [[LargeHam amusingly over-the-top manner]]. ** Slightly justified, in that symbiotes in this universe appear to ''prefer'' live meals, or like in Venom's case they're cooperating with their host to live in a normal society.

* Any menace from [[spoiler: Cletus Kasady]] is completely undercut by Woody Harrelson's truly ridiculous wig.

** The shot of Eddie crashing straight through a half-fallen tree in the forest that he could just as easily have ''ducked'' under comes across as more comedic than cool, as if they just needed an additional gratuitous shot of ''something'' breaking. Especially if your mind goes to Victor from ''Film/WetHotAmericanSummer'' and his inexplicable refusal to jump over anything. It really does not help that the evil bad-guy vehicle chasing him looks like a slightly modified ''golf cart''.

* The leaked trailer revealed some pretty terrible lines (“The guy you work for is an evil person.”). Tom Hardy's ''[[OohMeAccentsSlipping horrible]]'' [[WhatTheHellIsThatAccent New York...ish(?)]] accent isn't doing the delivery any favors either. And it ''really'' does not help that his [[InopportuneVoiceCracking voice cracks]] on the reading of "evil person".

** How Jenny Slate's character pronounces "symbiote" [[note]]"symb-eye-ote" instead of the more traditional "sym-bee-ote"[[/note]]. Plus, her giving firm, equal stress to all three syllables like she's speaking some foreign language.

** The guy who Carlton Drake subjects to OrificeInvasion in the third trailer would have been disturbing, [[NightmareRetardant if not for the victim's]] [[DullSurprise bland expression]] and where the symbiote appears to [[AssShove enter his body through]]...
