* AnimalWrongsGroup: Benton once killed a squirrel with a BB gun during an interview. He had relatively good reasons for doing so - they were infesting his house and chewing up every electrical cord they could get their fangs on - but since Benton earlier had bragged about [[ForTheEvulz killing and burning small animals for fun]], the band quickly became a victim of these. It culminated in somebody stopping one of their shows by [[EpicFail detonating a bomb outside of a blast-proof door, at the wrong end of the building, while the opening act was playing.]]

* PersonaNonGrata: Essentially banned in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts due to an unspecified incident that occurred in the late 1990s that resulted in an active warrant for Glen's arrest. Basically, they ''can'' go there, but Benton will likely be arrested if they do so. It has been rumored that the warrant is no longer active, but the band only plays in Connecticut, Rhode Island, or New Hampshire when they do play New England.
* ReadTheFinePrint: According to Glen, a failure to do this was what finally got the Hoffman brothers to leave. Relations between them and the rest of the band had been deteriorating for years, but it wasn't until a new contract that laid out new royalty distribution terms that the shit really hit the fan. Basically, the new terms boiled down to "you get paid for what you write," while the old contract was a four-way split. As the Hoffmans did not write that much, they had not earned that much in royalties under the new contract, and from what Benton said, it appeared that they did not even read the damn thing before signing it and then flipped the fuck out when their shares suddenly became a hell of a lot smaller.

* {{Flanderization}}: Downplayed. [[ReligionRantSong Anti-Christianity]] has always been a part of their lyrics, hence their name, but they contained stronger Satanic overtones, as well as songs about horror movies and cults. Nowadays, their lyrics are mostly just purely blasphemous with little variety.

* ItsAllAboutMe: This could be Glen Benton's personal trope. Time and time again, he has proven to be one of the most — if not THE most — egotistical frontmen in metal. He creates drama where none exists for no other real apparent reason than attempting to be relevant.

He also was one of the first purveyors of the [[SopranoAndGravel "gutturals and shrieks"]] dynamic that has since become a mainstay of death metal, though his tendency to multitrack and layer his vocals means that many of his highs have to be performed by other vocalists live.

Deicide are an American DeathMetal band forming in the late 80s. The band started when the Hoffman brothers called Benton about a musical advertisement. Along with drummer Steve Asheim, they got together writing music under the name Amon, and within a month, they had recorded crude Feasting the Beast 8-track demo in Benton's garage and had started playing the occasional gig in the Tampa area. In 1989, Amon recorded their second demo, Sacrificial, at Morrisound with producer Scott Burns.
