* RearrangeTheSong: The "Ripped Away Version" of "No Rain", which is a much slower, blues-influenced version of the song. They started playing it this way during live performances because they were tired of being expected to play the song at every show. A studio version appears on ''Nico''. A Saturday Night Live performance combined the two - they came out playing the "Ripped Away" arrangement, then made a segue into the more familiar version after a few bars.

* RearrangeTheSong: The "Ripped Away Version" of "No Rain", which is a much slower, blues-influenced version of the song. They started playing it this way Around 1993 or so, the band had begun adding a bluesy intro to "No Rain" during live performances because they were tired of being expected to play performances, which would then undergo a SongStyleShift into the song at every show. A studio more familiar album version appears on ''Nico''. A Saturday Night Live performance combined the two - they came out playing the "Ripped Away" arrangement, then made a segue into the more familiar version after a few bars. is the full song performed in that style.

* DarkerAndEdgier: The band followed up their very successful "Bee Girl" album with the much darker "Soup," which dealt with subject matter of murder, suicide and serial killers. It didn't sit well with some -- especially those who had used the first album to do nothing but put "No Rain" on repeat. Even among fans, the shift from the more light, almost hippieish jam band feel of the first album to the darker and heavier feel of the second took some getting used to. The shift in tone is not only for creative reasons, but the increasingly erratic behavior and near constant drug use of primary songwriter Shannon Hoon. The album was also recorded in New Orleans, and the influence of the music and culture of that city on the album is salient.
