* [[GetAHoldOfYourselfMan Get a Hold of Yourself, Man!]]: Takeo asks Suna to hit him if he ever starts to severely misstep in his relationship with Yamato. Eventually, [[spoiler: after Takeo breaks up with Yamato because he thinks he's hurting her with their LongDistanceRelationship,]] Suna follows through with his promise.

** [[spoiler: Oda gives one to Ai]] after yet another AnguishedDeclarationOfLove. Notable in that it's portrayed in a very bad light and earns him a full force punch from ''[[BewareTheNiceOnes Takeo]]'' because it makes her cry.

* AdaptationalAttractiveness: The live action version of Takeo is downright attractive at times.

Creator/VizMedia is releasing the series in the US and an anime adaptation produced by Creator/{{Madhouse}} was part of the Spring2015Anime line-up.

** He does it AGAIN for a complete stranger when her son falls off of a bridge into a river and nearly drowns. Takeo saving sombody and the Suna getting the credit for it is a bit of a RunningGag.

** The beginning of the first chapter shows Takeo's graduation from junior high. The final chapter shows Takeo's graduation from high school, with the panels drawn almost the same way. [[spoiler: Both are also followed by a scene of Takeo rushing to see the girl he likes at the time and ends up seeing her with Suna, but in the latter scene both Yamato and Suna are waiting for him, and at this point Yamato and Takeo are already committed to marry once they get older]]

** In episode 6, Suna and Ai spot Takeo rescuing a cat from a tree. He talks to the two while its clawing his face, and seems oblivious to the scratches the cat is doing.

* LoveInformant: Takeo and Yamato like each other, but Takeo thinks she likes Suna, his best friend, instead. After a date gone wrong because of it, Suna just straight up tells Takeo that he's the one Yamato likes. When Takeo still didn't believe him, Suna tricked Yamato herself to confess her love.

* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Naturally, Takeo and both of his parents are this, considering that they're big, burly characters with shades of {{Gonk}} in a shojo romance series. Takeo's father in particular takes the cake, though, with a design that's highly reminiscent of 1970's and 1980's seinen characters. Appearance-wise, he wouldn't look out of place dealing with Manga/{{Golgo 13}}.

* ObliviousToLove: Yamato has a very obvious crush on Takeo at the start however he believes that she likes his best friend. He tries to pair the two together (despite Suna being [[ChasteHero uninterested]] in any girl who has ever liked him). All other girls have ignored him due to his {{gonk}} looks so he doesn't believe Yamato could like him. This lasts less than four episodes because Suna gets sick of [[WillTheyOrWontThey their]] [[CanNotSpitItOut pussyfooting]] [[PoorCommunicationKills around]] and gets them to notice each others feelings. They spend the rest of the series being the OfficialCouple.

* PottyFailure: Takeo from told Yamato a story from when he was in first grade. He used to hold it in a lot but one day he peed his pants. His friend Suna splashed a bucket of water on him so everyone would think he just got water on his shorts.

* ShareTheMalePain: In TheStinger for episode 3, a young Takeo and Suna go to the park to play. Takeo climbs some monkey bars, then slips off. He unfortunately suffers a GroinAttack, which causes Suna to wince a little. Hilariously Takeo gets right back up and doesn't seem to be in pain at all.

** Takeo's parents approve of Yamato very much. When she came to visit on Takeo's birthday, his mother made it an explicit point of telling them that they would be out for approximately five hours and that Yamato could make herself at home. Yamato usually picks up on the intent faster than Takeo, if he does at all.
* ShoutOut

** When spending some time alone with Yamato, Takeo starts trying to reccomend his friend to her again. She cries, then runs off, causing him to think Suna did something mean to her.

** Yukika towards Suna. Though she gets along with Takeo and Yamato, she's very shy around him, and isn't able to say much. His feelings towards her seems mostly neutral, in that while he doesn't automatically reject her like he's done towards every other girl, he also doesn't seem romantically interested in her either.

* ICantBelieveAGuyLikeYouWouldNoticeMe: Gender-Flipped. The reason Takeo is so oblivious to love is due to having all the girls he liked preferring Suna over him. So, he thinks the same of Yamato when it's otherwise clear she wants to be with Takeo.

* AmusingInjuries: Takeo's skin darkens after he escapes from a burning building in episode 4. Made a little more hilarious because most of his suit burned off, leaving him with only the front of his shirt, his tie, and the top part of his pants (with a hole around most of his butt). And he still looks this way after arriving home, and presumably bathing.

* RunningGag: Nearly every time Takeo does something to help or save somebody they immediately start thanking Suna for the help.

* ADayInTheLimelight: Episode 14 focuses heavily on Ai, and thanks to Hayato's scheming, gives her a few hours alone with Takeo at the amusement park.

* StrongFamilyResemblance: Both of Takeo's parents are tall and powerfully built, and he clearly gets his features from both parents. His face more closely resembles his father, though it appears his prodigious strength from his mother. He also has a blend of his parents' personalities, with his mother's simplicity and his father's concern for others.

* PregnantBadass: Takeo's mom. She caught and carried another pregnant woman in the hospital ''while in labor'' with Takeo.

* BookEnds: The beginning of the anime introduces the story of the Red and Blue Ogre. The final picture at the end of episode 24 shows the two ogres again.

* ChasteHero: Takeo is so used to girls taking interest in Suna than him that he is completely oblivious to Yamato's affections for him at first. It takes Suna [[spoiler: forcing them to confess their feelings for one another for Takeo to realize that it's him Yamato likes, not Suna.]]

Takeo is a very kind person who uses his amazing physical abilities to help people, but he's never had any luck with girls because they think he's [[FaceOfAThug ugly or intimidating]]. Every girl Takeo falls for seems to be attracted instead to his good-looking best friend Makoto Sunakawa, who always turns them down. One day, Takeo rescues a girl named Rinko Yamato from a molester on the train, falling in love with her at first sight in the process. Afterwards she offers him her home-made sweets and starts hanging out with him and Suna. Takeo assumes that Yamato is just grateful that he helped her and that she's interested in Suna, but the truth is that Yamato is in love with him! Could this be the beginning of Takeo's first romance?

* DeclarationOfProtection: Takeo's father tells a story of giving his mother such a declaration. Though immediately afterward he tells Takeo that she's such a strong person he was never got to be able to actually protect her.
