* BrosBeforeHoes: Most girls that Takeo is interested in keep going after his {{Bishonen}} best friend Suna, who is completely disinterested. However, Takeo is far too nice a guy to hold it against him. [[spoiler:Turns out that Suna has been turning them down because most of them had been badmouthing Takeo behind his back. Suna is a total bro. Suna also pushes Takeo and Yamato into confessing to each other.]]
* ChasteHero: Takeo is so used to girls taking interest in Suna than him that he is completely oblivious to Yamato's affections for him at first. It takes Suna [[spoiler: forcing them to confess their feelings for one another for Takeo to realize that it's him Yamato likes, not Suna.]]
* CourtlyLove: It's clear that Takeo will do anything for Yamato, and tells her that he won't lay a finger on her until they're older. [[spoiler: He doesn't even allow himself to hold hands with her, until Yamato voices her desire to.]]

* TheDitz: Takeo, particularly about emotions. While he can tell very vague generalities (like someone being happy or upset in general), he cannot for the life of him get a read on the specifics.
* ExcitedShowTitle: Both titles in Japanese and North American English contain two exclamation points.
* GentleGiant: Takeo looks intimidating, but he's a pretty sweet guy.
* {{Gonk}}: Takeo is practically the poster child for the type - huge lips, flat-top haircut, stark facial features, harsh eyes, bushy eyebrows, large nose... the announcement of the manga's launch in ''Bessatsu Margaret'' was even "Ugly guys are in!" due to his looks.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Takeo and Suna. They're not that similar at a glance, but they're totally inseparable.
* HotBlooded: Takeo - his emotions frequently flare up, although he makes the effort to just be passionate and not have his emotions overtake him. Well, except when dealing with the groper who tried to bother Yamato, but the problem with punching him was less that he deserved it and more that the police already had the guy in custody.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Takeo and Yamato, with the former being two meters tall and her barely reaching his chest.
* ICantBelieveAGuyLikeYouWouldNoticeMe: Gender-Flipped. The reason Takeo is so oblivious to love is due to having all the girls he liked preferring Suna over him. So, he thinks the same of Yamato when it's otherwise clear she wants to be with Takeo.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: Suna's sister Ai has a long-time crush on [[spoiler:Takeo but decided not to confess to him after learning about his relationship with Yamato so as not to interfere with them, and more importantly, to preserve her CoolBigSis persona in front of Takeo.]]
* LightningBruiser: Takeo is not only strong as befitting of his stature, but also incredibly fast.
* NiceGuy: Takeo, bordering on TheMessiah. He stops men from groping girls on trains, he jumps into rivers to save children, he admonishes his male friends for wanting to eye up Yamato's friends while they're at the beach. He's the perfect gentleman.
* ObliviousToLove: Takeo is rather dense when it comes to reading people, so he doesn't get it at first that Yamato likes him.
* OddCouple: Takeo and Yamato. He's huge to begin with, so she looks smaller already. He looks like a gorilla or a bear, while she's cute as a button. Everything about them seems completely incompatible, but they're crazy about each other.
** [[CoolKidAndLoserFriendship The non-romantic example]] would be Takeo and Suna. Takeo is huge, boisterous, squarely built and looks intimidating. Suna is average height, thin, good looking, taciturn, the typical {{Bishonen}} high schooler. Turns out they actually have a lot more in common than you'd think, particularly a very strong loyalty to their friendship.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: Yamato is actually stronger than she looks, due to being an avid baker (which takes more strength than you'd think) that eschews electrical appliances. For example, the girder that Takeo catches in chapter 1? Yamato pushes it off of his shoulders to make sure he doesn't collapse under it.
* RedOniBlueOni: Takeo is the red, Suna is the blue. Takeo even retells the story to Yamato while noting that he and Suna played those respective roles when doing the story as a play in elementary school.
* RomanticWingman: Suna acts as this to Takeo, helping him get with Yamato.
* TheChikan: Yamato's first appearance is being rescued from it by Takeo.
* TrueCompanions: Takeo and Suna are always there for each other, through thick and thin. Suna [[spoiler: convinces Takeo to confess his feelings for Yamato]], and Takeo is just as supportive, [[spoiler: choosing to be there for Suna when his dad is having a serious operation instead of spending the day with Yamato]].
* WhatDoesSheSeeinHim: Yamato's friends were initially shocked when they first saw Takeo and wondered how she could fall for someone that looks completely different to her. Their opinions changed quickly after witnessing his heroic feats first-hand though.
