* CaptainErsatz: The Disneyland-esque "Destinyland" is full of them. The mascot is "Mitchy," basically WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse as a rabbit. Two female patrons are shown dressed up as characters from "Frosted," a parody of ''WesternAnimation/{{Frozen}}''[[note]]"Anata and the Snow Queen" in the original Japanese, based on Frozen's Japanese name "Anna and the Snow Queen".[[/note]]. And one of the rides Kuroe and Arata go on features flying elephants that look like WesternAnimation/{{Dumbo}} with royal crowns.

* DontLookAtMe: The first time Kuroe Akaishi turns into [[{{Kaiju}} Harugon]], she takes a stroll down the Harumi River, all the while [[ThatWasNotADream assuming she's having a cathartic dream]]. At one point she is about to use her BreathWeapon on the [[UsefulNotes/KaijuDefenseForce JSDF]] helicopters shooting at her when she sees her love interest Arata Minami staring in fear at her from the riverbank. She wonders why he's looking at her like that when she catches her reflection on the side of a skyscraper and realizes how ugly and scary-looking she is. She frantically submerges herself in the river while mentally begging him to stop looking at her.

* SpitTake: When Kuroe comes home with her new makeover from Rairi, Jumbo King is so shocked that he does this with his drool. It starts spewing out so much that it resembles a VomitIndescretionShot.

* IntentionalHeartbreaker: Okada, the guy Rairi liked in junior high, directly encouraged her to start liking him even though he already had a girlfriend.

* BaitAndSwitch: Rairi's introduction. Kuroe is getting bullied by three of the numerous girls [[GreenEyedMonster jealous of her relationship with Arata]] when Rairi walks into the classroom. Kuroe notes that Rairi is both very pretty and very popular, and that it would be bad if someone "in the very top caste" became her enemy. Then Rairi is informed by another girl that Kuroe and Arata are dating; she promptly rushes over to Kuroe and knees her in the back. She seems like an abnormally violent AlphaBitch...but it turns out she just wanted Kuroe to stop slouching because "bad posture will make anybody look ugly." Rairi then proceeds to give Kuroe an impromptu makeover.

* ExpressiveHair: Kuroe's has two large strands of hair that are shaped like and act like horns. Although it often becomes ambiguous as to whether they're her actual horns (as they grow longer), or are simply made of hair (as they're expressive).

** Kuroe herself becomes one for Rairi and her gorilla face, as Rairi feels that Kuroe's similar background and insecurities mean she can be trusted with a secret like that.

* SecretKeeper: When Kuroe Akaishi starts transforming into [[{{Kaiju}} Harugon]], only her mother Rinko knows that she and the monster are one and the same. Downplayed with [[HonoraryUncle Koutarou Hibino]], who knows about the InvoluntaryShapeshifting she has been subject to since childhood but not that she is Harugon.

* SecretSecretKeeper: [[spoiler:As the story goes on, there is an increasing number of hints and implications that Arata figured out about Kuroe's InvoluntaryShapeshifting and that she's Harugon, but he's decided to keep her from knowing he did by ObfuscatingStupidity in regards to when he sees her partially transformed or sees Harugon pop up in the same place Kuroe was earlier, likely waiting for her to be ready to come out about it on her own.]]

* ForHalloweenIAmGoingAsMyself: When Kuroe partially transforms at Destinyland, Arata assumes that she's cosplaying as "Johnny", a dinosaur-like character from ''[[WesternAnimation/ToyStory Boy Stories]]''. Kuroe decides to [[SureLetsGoWithThat roll with it]] to cover up the fact that it's not actually a costume.
* FormerlyFat: Arata Minami used to be chubby in middle school, as seen in the picture he shows Kuroe. This is why he's reluctant to eat his share of the pancakes at Cafe Serizawa during their date. Kuroe convinces him to eat anyway, saying "whether you're a fatty or a beanpole...I don't care."

Eventually, her SpoiledSweet classmate Manatsu Tomosato refers to her by her first name, though she also uses the [[UsefulNotes/JapaneseHonorifics formal honorific "-san"]] because she thinks Kuroe is the priestess of her beloved [[{{Kaiju}} Harugon]].
