Aiding him in this is Tiz, the second in command of Sun Ring's female group, and Third, a Magnificent Bastard schemer who prefers to work behind the scenes, rather than become a Top himself. Other characters include Chen, the Top of Sun Ring's women who is irrevocably in love with Third, Zagi, the leader of an outcast group of children who will later become Thor's rival, and Karim, with whom Thor falls in love. As the story develops, Thor will have to fight to survive and climb to the top of the food chain (so to speak) so he can leave the planet and discover why he was sent to this place.

Jyu-Oh-Sei (Planet of the Beast King) is a ScienceFiction manga that was turned into a eleven episode anime in 2006. It was released in America in 2008. Jyu Oh Sei tells the story of Thor, a young boy who, along with his twin brother Rai (who quickly dies), is kidnapped from his home and taken to the penal colony Chimera, the Planet of the Beast King. In order to survive in Chimera's harsh environment, the prisoners (and more importantly, the descendants of those prisoners) are forced to become like savage beasts. The more Thor learns about the planet, the more he is forced to accept that, in order to survive and escape Chimera, he will have to become a beast himself.

Wanted to note Thor as a combat pragmatist. While I was here, made compressed adaptation less complain-y.

* CompressedAdaptation: This is what happens when you try to squeeze five volumes of a manga rich in story and background info into only eleven episodes. Many vital pieces of information are missing from the anime (including the entire point of the story, that is that the people of Chimaera are a new subspecies of homo sapiens), making it random and disjointed.

* HumansAreTheRealMonsters: Thor maintains that he wants to leave Chimaera as a human being, refusing to allow the brutal nature of the planet to turn him into a beast. Third points out that there is no beast more dangerous than a human being.

Added DiffLines:

* WildChild: Every child born on Chimaera is abandoned in infancy, to be raised in "yado nests" by other wild children until they're older and strong enough to earn their place in a Ring. Zagi is introduced as the leader of one of the feral packs -- he's the closest thing to human among them.

* CelebrityVoiceActor: The voices of adult Thor and Third were provided by idols Koichi Domoto and Shun Oguri, respectively. Although neither of them had any previous voice acting experience, they both did a surprisingly good job.

** Creator/NanaMizuki as Tiz
** Creator/KazuyaNakai as Zagi
** Romi Paku as Karim
** Creator/MinamiTakayama as young Thor and Rai and their mother.
** In the dub, older Thor is Koenma, and Zagi is Sakyo and Yuki (!)
*** Also in the dub Thor and Rai are voiced by Alison Viktorin, who much like Creator/MinamiTakayama also voices Conan Edogawa

* AmbiguouslyBi: Zagi. His relationship with Karim is complicated, but definitely of a romantic nature; and his attraction to Thor is so blatant that Karim gets jealous.

* ProgressivelyPrettier: Most of the characters in the manga, but Zagi stands out.

** Zagi might also count. He's fighting for independence and the abolition of a cruel and manipulative ruling system, but his methods are ruthless and downright cruel at times.
