This {{shojo}} series from the 1970s hooked up a whole generation of Japanese, Latin American and European girls. It actually started as a three-volume novel written by Yumiko Igarashi, which later was adapted into a 9-volumes manga, serialized in the ''Nakayoshi'' magazine from 1975 to 1979, and illustrated by Kyouko Mizuki. The anime would run from 1976 to 1979, anf it has 115 episodes.
