* SpellMyNameWithAnS: All over the place, at least in the beginning of the series' run. The official translation uses Asta, though some fan translations render it as "Aster", which is helped by the fact that it's an actual, albeit uncommon name in the real world [[GenderBlenderName that's usually meant for girls]]. And that's to say nothing of Juno/Yuno and Luck/Rack/Lack/Lakk Voltia/Boltia. Thankfully, the Japanese volumes give the English translations of some of the troublesome names, so this is much less of a problem now. There's still the problem of names that must be directly translated, such as "Wizard King", which may be Sorcery Emperor and Magic Emperor, and "Eye of the Midnight Sun", which may be known as White Night Eye or White Night's Demon Eyes.

''Black Clover'' is an action fantasy manga by Yūki Tabata that has been serialized in ''[[Magazine/ShonenJump Weekly Shōnen Jump]]'' since February 16, 2015. It takes place in a world where mana and magic reign supreme, and focuses on the Clover Kingdom. There is one man in the kingdom whose magic power is unmatched, and thus, he's known as the Wizard King. [[HeroOfAnotherStory However, this is not his story]]. Rather, this is the story of [[Characters/BlackCloverAsta Asta]], a [[KidHero young man from the countryside]] who, along with his best/childhood friend [[Characters/BlackCloverYunoGrinberryall Yuno]], compete with each other to become [[ToBeAMaster the next Wizard King]]. The only problem is that unlike his magic prodigy of a friend Yuno, Asta [[UnSorcerer possesses no mana]], and despite all his [[TrainingFromHell physical training]], he cannot compensate for his lack of magical abilities.

''Black Clover'' is the second major serialization by Tabata, whose first major one, ''Hungry Joker'', was cancelled because of lack of popularity, despite its good reception with readers. ''Black Clover'', unlike its predecessor, has been able to acquire a large number of readers. It is localized by Creator/VizMedia and the English version of ''Shonen Jump''. The story went on hiatus for 3 months in preparation for its GrandFinale after 331 chapters, and resumed serialization on July 31, 2022.

** Vanessa uses Rouge to defeat the Witch Queen, who was trying to have Asta kill everyone, including Noelle.
** Noelle uses her powers to defeat Solid after years of enduring her siblings' mockery.

When first applying to join the Magic Knights, he was selected by every squad, even the famously anti-male Blue Rose. On joining the Golden Dawn, widely recognized as the greatest squad, he quickly rises through the ranks and eventually becomes [[spoiler: the ''Captain'']].

* HeroicFantasy: The setting we're introduced to is relatively peaceful, thanks to the Wizard King, and everyone in the series has a degree of magical abilities, and our hero's primary goal is to become the next Wizard King, so it qualifies as such. Only time will tell whether the series evolves into a HighFantasy.

** Subverted. Despite being born without any magic, Asta has trained diligently for years, giving him an incredibly muscular body and great strength. However, in the first chapter it's established that, despite his musculature, he still can't compare to skilled mages. Then, he manifests his grimoire, which gives him an anti-magic sword that he can wield because of his lack of magic ''and'' strength from years of training.

Following the release of an {{OVA}}, it received an anime adaptation by Creator/StudioPierrot, which aired from October 3, 2017 to March 30, 2021. A [=SimulDub=] of the series was produced by Creator/{{Funimation}}. The anime adaptation began airing on Creator/{{Toonami}} on December 2, 2017. On March 28, 2021, it was announced that the series would receive an anime film. It was later announced that the film would be titled ''Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King'' and simultaneously release in Japanese theaters and on Creator/{{Netflix}} on June 16, 2023.
