* VocalDissonance/RealLife

[[folder:Real Life]]
* In general, heavy smoking can cause Vocal Dissonance. Many 20-something-year-old men and women who are ridiculously heavy smokers have unusually deep and/or raspy voices, even if they still look reasonably young.
* This can also happen with people after having children. If they do a lot of yelling/screaming while raising them (particularly during their infancy), they may gradually develop nodules in their vocal cords, making their voices considerably deeper and huskier than before.
* OlderThanRadio. In chapter VII of his autobiographical ''[[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confessions_of_Jean-Jacques_Rousseau Confessions]]'', philosopher [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Jacques_Rousseau Jean-Jacques Rousseau]], who was also a musician, tells how he once fell victim to this trope during his stay in Venice in 1743-1744. Rousseau's conclusion shows that he just learned another trope, that is TrueBeautyIsOnTheInside.
* Many classic Hollywood film directors were foreign-born, but the all-American iconography of their movies makes it quite jarring to hear them speak (Creator/BillyWilder, for example).
* This trope came up in spades during the late 1920s transition from [[SilentMovie silent films]] to talkies, with many famous silent actors not possessing a voice that fits their prior screen image. Famous examples of silent actors in this category include (but aren't limited to) Norma Talmadge, Creator/JohnGilbert, Clara Bow, Karl Dane, and Theda Bara.
* Creator/CharlieChaplin was British and had an upper-class British accent, which caused vocal dissonance for North American fans who were used to his silent work and never pictured The Little Tramp as having a foreign accent. There were even fans who questioned why there was a British narrator for his 1959 compilation film The Chaplin Revue when the narrator was Chaplin himself.
* Baby-faced, bespectacled writer-director Creator/JohnHughes, known foremost for wacky, light-hearted films, had a surprisingly deep, spooky-sounding voice.
* Reinhard Heydrich, Nazi Governor of Bohemia-Moravia, likely schizophrenic and all-around nutter often refused to speak in public because of having a remarkably high-pitched, squeaky voice. This was the man who headed the Wannsee Conference, which formalized Nazi Germany's FinalSolution.
* Ernst Kaltenbrunner, the man who succeeded Heydrich in many of his posts, [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:KaltenbrunnerNuremberg.ogg also spoke with a high-pitched voice]] which clashed with his 6' 7'' tall frame and scarred appearance.
* No one looking at Mike Tyson expects ''that'' guy to have a WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse voice (see the other references to him above). But it's still there.
* Fellow world heavyweight champion George Foreman qualifies as well. It's not as commented-on due to Foreman's reinvention of his image as a BigFun avuncular figure, but Foreman's voice and cadence were [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWoM4sMIuOo really]] ill-fitting for someone as fierce-looking as him.
* ''Series/{{Glee}}'s'' Creator/ChrisColfer, who stars as Kurt, has a... very high, soft voice for a guy. Amusingly enough his vocal range is so wide that he can go all the way to the other end and talk in an extremely deep voice. It too qualifies for this trope because of how out-of-place it looks compared to his boyish appearance.
* Comedienne Felicia Michaels -- though you wouldn't expect anyone to have that kind of helium-fueled voice.
* Creator/SethMacFarlane definitely doesn't ''look'' like he should have such a deep voice. Further complicated because he [[ManOfAThousandVoices provides the voices of]] [[WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy Brian, Peter, Stewie, Quagmire,]] [[WesternAnimation/AmericanDad Stan Smith, Terry the news anchor, Roger the alien]], and [[WesternAnimation/TheClevelandShow Tim the Bear]].
* For a physically small man, Creator/JamesMcAvoy has a fairly deep, manly voice. [[http://unitedvoices.tv/sites/default/files/audio/James%20McAvoy_Johnnie%20Walker.mp3 Here's an audio sample.]]
* Ronia Keyvan who debuted in Norske Talenter (Norwegian Talents) at age 15 has a mature singing voice anyone could dream of, hear it for [[http://youtu.be/3s7Xz-Uqy5M yourself]].
* Creator/LivTyler, contrary to her {{statuesque|Stunner}} appearance, has a very, almost girlish soft yet deep voice.
* Kate Hudson, on the flipside, who has a more conventional GirlNextDoor look going for her, has a surprisingly deep voice.
* UsefulNotes/SarahPalin. She's a young-ish (for a politician) and reasonably attractive woman, and she's from Alaska, where people aren't imagined to have stereotypically Midwestern-sounding voices. But she often sounds just like that dowdy secretary in ''Film/FerrisBuellersDayOff''.
* Dogs:
** Ever hear a Smooth Collie bark? They've got a surprisingly high-pitched bark for such a large dog. Seriously, you'd sooner expect that bark to come out of a toy poodle. In comparison, other collie breeds, such as the Rough Collie (Franchise/{{Lassie}}'s breed) has a bark that matches its size.
** You wouldn't expect a Basset Hound to have such a deep bark considering it's a fairly small dog. You'd expect that bark to come from a larger hound.
** Dachshunds, while being pretty small for a dog, still have the chest, and therefore ribcage and lungs, of a much larger breed. It's common among owners to see someone on the other side of the door sounding a little uneasy at the [[MisterMuffykins incessant barking]] of what seems to be a bloodthirsty hound, and then being surprised when the door opens and it's just a snarling ankle-biter on the other side.
** Standard Poodles have a similar-sounding bark to a German Shepherd, but their standard groom can mislead people into thinking that they have a higher-pitched bark.
** The Lhasa Apso is a breed which is easily mistaken for a Shih Tzu apart from its voice -- a deep, booming bark bred to pinpoint the location of intruders.
* Foxes are adorable -- and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxLHUxzEoRU sound like a woman being skinned alive]]. (So ''that's'' [[Music/{{Ylvis}} what the fox says]]!)
* Most birds of prey have high-pitched screeches that don't really sound as intimidating or majestic as the birds look.
* Likewise true of some mammals, such as the Cheetah (which chirps like a bird rather than roaring). They can also meow like a house cat.
* One forced example is the Bald Eagle. That majestic screech you hear every time one is shown anywhere? That's actually the screech of a Red-Tailed Hawk. They never make any sort of noise even close to that. Instead, they [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQ2uMauyBow chirp like a bird one-fifth their size]]. Unfortunately, [[RealityIsUnrealistic that just doesn't make for a good film]].
* Kakapos are "only" 25 inches long, but [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dsasOfFUcA sound like land whales]].
* An episode of ''Series/TheOprahWinfreyShow'' (or was it Sally Jesse Raphael?) featured a number of people with cases of VocalDissonance. These included:
** A female drill sergeant with a squeaky punk voice, but her squad thought nothing of it.
** A man with the looks to kill who sounded like WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse.
** Two adult women with rock bottom pitched voices. One was very suave and confident and somehow able to make her rather masculine voice sound so sexy, the other being extremely {{Woobie}}ish about her voice she spent most of the time hidden behind a shroud.
* The sunny-faced, red-haired Scottish pixie Lulu also qualifies. Proof: her tear-'em-up version of "Shout."
* Many voice actors have dealt with this, to the point where it has seriously affected their chances of getting screen acting gigs. Case in point: Creator/CrispinFreeman, whose boyish looks have always stood in stark contrast to his baritone voice. And Creator/TaraPlatt talked about being able to play the types of roles in voiceover that her looks keep her from playing onscreen [[http://magazine.rutgers.edu/departments/winter-2011/alumni-notes/voices-can-be-deceiving in this alumni article from her alma mater, Rutgers]].
* You'd expect UsefulNotes/TheodoreRoosevelt to have a deep resonating voice, right? '''[[http://youtu.be/Ixi3fwGvLsw Wrong.]]''' The dissonance is even more surprising, considering that most actors portraying him ''do'' use a deep resonating voice. Roosevelt had asthma as a child (among other health problems), meaning that he ''couldn't'' speak with the type of booming voice many people today imagine he had.
* UsefulNotes/AbrahamLincoln is popularly thought to have a deep and resonant voice befitting his esteem and large stature, but contemporary accounts describe his voice as very high and nasal. Actor portrayals have mostly been updated to reflect this.
* Creator/GKChesterton frequently made fun of himself for this, referring to his voice as "the mouse coming forth from the mountain".
* [[UsefulNotes/TheHouseOfWindsor King Edward VIII of the United Kingdom]], who was actually a royal piece of PrettyBoy as a young man... but, as heard in audio recordings, had a ridiculously high and nasal voice.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iv-F5JnnGo0 The Golden Voiced Hobo]]
* Peacocks. Such a gorgeous jewel of a bird should sound like an angel. Right? [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnkgajLFRJ0 Wrong.]]
* Zebras. They look so much like a horse that you'd expect them to sound a bit like one. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzueL0D-vMs Instead, they sound like birds]].
* Alpaca are fairly large animals but the sound they make sounds like a squeaky toy.
* Creator/MarlonBrando, the epitome of MrFanservice, had such a thickly-accented and grating voice that it's jarring for those who have only seen him in pictures.
* [[http://www.heart.co.uk/thamesvalley/on-air/lucy-ellis/ Lucy Ellis]], presenter for Global Radio. Although her voice is quite sultry, she is blonde, but in RealLife ''completely'' [[AvertedTrope averts]] the DumbBlonde stereotype.
* UsefulNotes/AmericanFootball legend Herschel Walker, whose muscular and imposing physical appearance is belied by his high-pitched voice and DeepSouth accent.[[note]]Think [[Series/TheAndyGriffithShow Gomer Pyle]].[[/note]]
* Late UsefulNotes/{{Baseball}} great Tony Gwynn, also African American (not as physically imposing as Walker, though still solidly built), had a similarly high-pitched voice. The accent he used in public, both as a player and a broadcaster, was also quite removed from a stereotypical African American accent, being more similar to that of his native Southern California.
* General George ''Film/{{Patton}}'' was played to perfection by Creator/GeorgeCScott, and most people associate Scott's rough, raspy baritone with the general. So imagine the surprise in finding a newsreel of Patton giving a speech and hearing a high, almost squeaky tenor with an almost British-sounding accent...[[note]]It's actually an aristocratic Tidewater accent, which he picked up from his Virginia-born parents, despite his growing up in California[[/note]]
* In an ''extremely'' obscure example, in the late 90s there was, briefly, a trailer shown on British television for an episode of what was then a relatively new genre, the real-life police procedural show. In the trailer, a policeman was seen cuffing an extremely large black man, and informing him he was being arrested on suspicion of murder. This drew a one-word response - "Murder?" delivered in an incredibly incongruously high pitched Scouse accent. It was sufficiently notable that one of the gags on the gag reel of the DVD of ''Spaced'' was Jessica Hynes just sitting at a bar table, staring into space and saying "Murder?" in a similarly high pitched Liverpool voice, with no other explanation.
* If you hear Music/TomPetty's singing voice (which was sort of nasally and sometimes a bit whiny), on top of his skinny build, it can come as a surprise that he actually had a deep speaking voice.
* Creator/DonRickles. He was a wrinkly, toad-like guy in his nineties and looked like it, but he possessed the voice of a guy in his 40s or 50s all his adult life. Would you believe he was ''84'' when he voiced Mr. Potato Head in WesternAnimation/ToyStory3?
* Some people expect Scott Stapp of Music/{{Creed}} to talk like he sings. In other words, you'd think he sounded like [[PerishingAltRockVoice an angry constipated guy]]. He's got a shockingly calm voice and seems like a nicer guy than he's made out to be.
* Look at the late Creator/AntonYelchin's page image. It was insane to hear him speak in his surprisingly deep, raspy voice.
* Creator/BradJones has been described as having the voice of a young Creator/JackNicholson but is actually a pretty short guy. This is especially obvious whenever he does crossovers with his fellow [[Website/ThatGuyWithTheGlasses Channel Awesome]] contributors, most of whom are taller than him (sometimes by a lot).
* Creator/WillemDafoe does not look like he should have such a deep voice, especially when he was younger.
* Ironically, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QR7-X6KE4w Harvey Fierstein]] ''does'' look like a man who'd have a deep voice - but because he's openly CampGay, his voice can still take people by surprise. Add to that the fact that his voice is ''unnaturally'' deep since he has a throaty growl that belongs to either a long-time smoker or someone who's gargled broken glass.
* Looking at Creator/TomBaker, you wouldn't expect such a deep voice; his strange-looking face notwithstanding you would think that Fourth Doctor would sound zanier given his outfit. He also has a rather odd accent that is mostly AhPea but with incongruous [[OopNorth Scouse]] elements ("'Ere's to Gallif''rrrrrreeee''."). Somehow the overall effect is surprisingly pleasant.
* When a boy's voice first changes he might rub off like this since he still looks young. It may be part of the reason behind a similar trend in English-language anime.
* The Thin Man in the silent film ''Film/{{Metropolis}}'' -- a tall, thin, disturbing henchman for the leader of the city -- was played by actor Fritz Rasp. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thDPDUWT-OQ Here]] is a video featuring Fritz Rasp speaking (skip to 32 seconds in). Let's just say his voice does not match his name.
* Justin Long looks very boyish and quite a few years younger than he really is. Which makes his deep baritone voice sound perplexing.
* Jennie Garth was the sexy Kelly Taylor on ''Series/BeverlyHills90210'' and you'd expect a smooth sultry voice to go with her looks, but instead what comes out is a high-pitched, somewhat mousy voice like you'd expect on someone who plays HollywoodHomely nerds.
* Anyone who watches ''Series/TheSopranos'' for the first time would be surprised to hear the hulking 6'2" James Gandolfini's high nasally voice.
* Thurop van Orman, the creator of ''WesternAnimation/TheMarvelousMisadventuresOfFlapjack''. Looking at him and his BadassBeard, you'd expect him to sound like a tough biker dude. Instead, he sounds like... Flapjack. He got the gig playing Flapjack's voice when Creator/PaulReubens failed to show up for the recording sessions.
* Music/ShaniaTwain's speaking voice sounds little like her singing voice; it is more high pitched with a thick, almost stereotypical {{Canad|aEh}}ian accent.
* People who have never heard Creator/MishaCollins speak outside his role on ''Series/{{Supernatural}}'' as Castiel (who has a deep, gravelly voice also somewhat at odds with his unimposing appearance) are often shocked by how different he sounds; Misha's normal voice is much higher-pitched. Creator/JensenAckles has said that the first time he heard Misha speak as Castiel during filming, his reaction was [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmDJ7DqJWTk "What is he DOING? Did he audition??"]]
* Katie Leung, Cho Chang from the ''Film/HarryPotter'' series, surprised American audiences with her natural Scottish accent.
* Marissa Mayer, the blonde, baby-faced CEO and President of Yahoo! has a surprisingly [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goSEMau5Fo4 husky voice]].
* As mentioned above, Creator/DanteBasco is in his early 40s but has a voice that sounds more like a kid in his late teens.
* Creator/RobertAltman spoke with a nasal Missouri twang that was completely at odds with his burly build and [[BeardOfDirectors bearded]] visage.
* UsefulNotes/MixedMartialArts legend and former UsefulNotes/{{UFC}} two-division champion Randy "The Natural" Couture's voice is surprisingly high and soft, much different than what one might expect from a combat sports legend who often competed at heavyweight. In fact, when he played the villain Sargon in the straight-to-DVD sequel to ''Film/TheScorpionKing'', his voice was digitally lowered to better suit his character.
* MMA fighter Anderson Silva. Vicious punches, high skilled muay thai, high-pitched voice. He even appeared in a Burger King commercial that lampooned his voice, depicting people who ate whoppers suddenly having their voices become as high-pitched as his.
* Even though Creator/ScottMenville looks like a BadassBiker, his voice sounds more like a teenage boy's.
* You'd think Creator/GaboureySidibe, with her {{Acrofatic}} look and TypeCasting as the tough girl SassyBlackWoman, would sound tough/street, right? [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvbqWKkqxnU#t=30 Wrong!]]
* {{Justified|Trope}} for actor and bodybuilder [[Series/TheIncredibleHulk Lou Ferrigno]]. A massive hearing loss leads to a muscle-bound man having a mild case of ElmuhFuddSyndwome.

* If you're familiar with Creator/JackieEarleHaley from his roles as [[Film/{{Watchmen}} Rorschach]] and [[Film/ANightmareOnElmStreet2010 Freddy Krueger]], in which his voice is deep, gravelly, and well, pretty scary, you'd be surprised to know that his natural voice is literally nothing like that. His real voice is a ''lot'' higher and more friendly, so watching his interviews can be a little off-putting. On the other hand, it may be a reminder of his earlier acting gigs, voice young boy characters for Creator/HannaBarbera.
* Creator/RalphIneson looks like a pleasant, somewhat droopy-eyed British fellow with a lean build... But has a ''preposterously'' deep and gravelly bass voice. It can be pretty jarring to hear him speak for the first time.
* Despite a fairly masculine appearance and fantastically grown facial hair, Paul Sykes aka LetsPlay/{{Sjin}} has a surprisingly nasal voice.
* Creator/SandyFox is an anime voice actress whose natural voice is [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jx-9ysE0OrU curiously and unusually high-pitched]] [[OlderThanTheyLook for a woman in her mid-50s,]] almost akin to Creator/KristenSchaal.

* Creator/HyndenWalch actually sounds like [[WesternAnimation/AdventureTime Princess Bubblegum]] in real life.
* One would expect MemeticBadass Creator/ChuckNorris to have a fittingly badass voice, but in reality, he speaks with a fairly soft mid-range tone.
* You'd expect David Beckham to have a deep baritone voice due to his masculine appearance and his incredibly well-built physique. But he doesn't. It's actually surprisingly high pitched and it heavily juxtaposes with his appearance.
* Talleyrand as depicted in movies tends to have a rather high-pitched and nasal voice, especially when played by Sacha Guitry, and it fits quite well for a backstabbing eccentric. But while no recordings of his voice exist, for obvious reasons, contemporary witnesses say that his voice was actually surprisingly soft and deep.
* While he certainly looks his age, early 60's as of this writing, Creator/RobPaulsen has the youthful voice of a twenty-something, his voice has hardly changed since he actually was in his twenties back when he first became a voice actor back in the mid-1980s, he was once asked in one episode of his podcast "Talkin' Toons With Rob Paulsen" if he used any techniques to keep his voice sounding so young, he replied that doesn't and he's always sounded like that.
* Casting director and voice actress Ginny [=McSwain=] although she has to be in her 50s or 60s considering she's been in the business since the 1970s she has the voice of a woman in her late teens-early twenties.
* Chris Tucker. TallDarkAndHandsome, but has a very high-pitched voice, bordering on falsetto. During his appearance in the music video for "You Rock My World", he makes Music/MichaelJackson sound like Music/BarryWhite in comparison. Though Mike was speaking in a lower register than in most of his public appearances.
* Don Adams. Even when his age began to catch up with him physically he ''still'' sounded like he did when he was on ''Series/GetSmart'' in TheSixties. It's almost creepy.
* [[InvertedTrope Inverted]] with classic Hollywood actor Cesar Romero. He was a native of Cuba and looked it, but by the time he broke into movies he had moderated his Latino accent a great deal. Because, however, he gained his greatest fame playing LatinLover characters, film directors made him affect a relatively low-pitched, "foreign" voice [[ArousedByTheirVoice to lend his characters some necessary sex appeal]]. In some of his earliest roles, though, he has a perfectly ordinary, midrange Anglo-American accent, and his natural laugh was a high-pitched, effeminate giggle - something he [[ThrowItIn famously incorporated into his role]] as ComicBook/TheJoker in the 1960s ''Series/Batman1966'' series.
* Pro skateboarder Tony Hawk has always had a fairly youthful voice (which fits his profession, admittedly), even well into his forties.
* Creator/PeterDinklage has a rather deep voice for a dwarf, especially when you consider most actors with dwarfism (Tony Cox, Creator/BillyBarty, Creator/DeepRoy, etc.) tend to have high-pitched voices. It somewhat helps that Dinklage’s form of dwarfism only affects his limbs; his head and torso are more typically sized.
* Creator/NormMacDonald is only 57 and still fairly babyfaced, but has had the voice of a 70-year-old man all his life.
* Creator/EddieRedmayne has a surprisingly deep, manly voice that contrasts his boyish appearance.
* Creator/{{Danielle McRae}} looks considerably younger than her actual age and tends to emphasize that by wearing GirlishPigtails. She's best-known for voicing [[ContraltoOfDanger characters who sound like angry chainsaws]] (Painwheel from ''VideoGame/{{Skullgirls}}'', for one).
* Budgies, also known as "parakeets", are a small type of bird. When they are taught to speak words, their voices sound deep and almost robotic. They sound nothing like their normal high-pitched bird calls.
* Dario Franchitti. The three-time Indy 500 winner has the name and looks of a stereotypical Italian race driver. Then he starts speaking with his classic Scottish accent.
* Creator/LucasTill is a bonafide PrettyBoy... with a surprisingly deep, baritone voice.
* Creator/CormacMcCarthy is known for dark novels with {{Gorn}} galore. A bibliography like his made it that much more surprising when his first interview revealed him to sound [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kh0C5z79apA like a doting grandfather.]]
* Composer Music/DmitriShostakovich has a surprisingly high voice. Listening to his music, especially the symphonies, gives him a sort of grandeur. Combined with Russian stereotypes, you might expect him to have a decently low voice. He's actually a high, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOKL_q-Ribs slightly squeaky tenor]].
* Creator/EzraMiller, like other actors mentioned here, has quite a deep baritone voice that is at odds with his [[PrettyBoy appearance]] and [[GenkiGuy personality]].
* Creator/JonBernthal plays many characters with the BadassBaritone you'd expect them to have. However, his real voice is rather soft and gentle.
* Music/LanaDelRey has the vocals of a sultry, hazy, seductive, high-class songstress in the majority of her music, with the exception of a few songs. In real life, she is quiet, giggly, playful, and possesses a very sweet and soft-spoken talking voice.
* Music/MarinaAndTheDiamonds occasionally puts on an American accent in her singing, particularly during her American-esque concept album "Electra Heart". She also has some Greek ancestry -- so suddenly hearing Marina talk in her standard Welsh accent mixed with hints of Londoner can be very surprising.
* Since nobody really knows what Creator/ThomasPynchon looks like (as an adult anyway), you'd think he'd be immune from this. But when he made his vocal cameos on ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'', people certainly didn't expect him to sound like an older [[Series/EverybodyLovesRaymond Ray Romano]].
* In her heyday, Creator/FranDrescher had a sultry air about her. But then she spoke and... [[Series/TheNanny HELLO!!!]] (Although one such episode had a serving of [[BlazingInfernoHellfireSauce wasabi]] smooth it out for a small bit.)
* Creator/MiloVentimiglia is in his early 40s and has an Italian tough guy look, but sounds like an EmoTeen.
* Most people think the only sound a frog makes is croaking, but many frogs can make hisses and squeals that sound like they come from completely different animals like cats.
* Creator/KatieLeigh is in her 60s but has the natural voice of a teenage girl.
* UsefulNotes/JosefStalin, despite being a Soviet dictator, spoke with a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nMDjKtTigQ rather high pitched voice]]. And a hell of a Georgian accent.
* Japanese game designer Naoki Yoshida (most famous for saving ''Final Fantasy XIV'' with ''A Realm Reborn'') has [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJtWavbcwU8 a surprisingly deep baritone]] in contrast to his physical stature and build.
* Looking at Creator/{{Awkwafina}}, that last thing you'd expect was for her to sound like Creator/JoanRivers, but here we are.
* Lee Boucher, the narrator of ''WebVideo/CinemaWins'' has a rather light voice--and is a former lumberjack with an athletic build and BadassBeard.
* Comicbook artist ''Creator/RobertCrumb'' is in his mid 70's but he has the youthful of a man in his 20's or 30's.
* Creator/EmmaStone has a very down to Earth, quirky vibe about her evident in movies and interviews. This makes her raspy, practically erotic sounding voice a bit jarring.
* It seemed like a deeper voice should have come out of the late [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03GILsDbrQA Mark Linkous]] of Music/{{Sparklehorse}}.

* VocalDissonance/WesternAnimation

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* In Disney's ''[[WesternAnimation/AdventuresInMusicDuology Adventures in Music]]'', TheRuntAtTheEnd is a bass, whereas the rest of the characters are sopranos and tenors.
* A ''major'' stylistic theme of ''WesternAnimation/AdventureTime'' is pairing over-the-top-cartoony character design with matter-of-fact, naturalistic voices.
** Lumpy Space Princess has a gruff voice that sounds nothing like a princess. Combined with a ValleyGirl accent for RuleOfFunny.
** For bonus points, the season 5 premiere promos featured a clip from the episode of teenage Finn in full ActionHero Mode followed immediately by an audio clip from season 1 of 12-year-old Finn shouting '''"Aaaaadventure Time!"''' in a much higher-pitched voice, a result of averting CrossdressingVoices.
* In an episode of ''WesternAnimation/AmericanDad'', Stan meets a Strip Club bouncer who's a black man with the voice of a little girl, due to a rather odd medical condition...
-->'''Stan:''' Wow, your voice is... sweet.\\
'''Bouncer:''' Yeah, my gonads are tucked inside my abdomen. I was born with what doctors call "Bashful Testicles".
* In the episode "Hero of the Hourglass" of ''WesternAnimation/AmericanDragonJakeLong'' we discover that, when young, the future Huntsman had a very pitched and childish voice (getting him mocked by everyone, from his fellow Huntsclan apprentices to his teachers and a time-travelling Jake) while still being a formidable foe. Then, after Jake threw him in a pit to get mauled by a giant crab-thing, his voice changes to the EvilSoundsDeep we know, scaring the other apprentices with his oath to slay all dragons. And causing another vocal dissonance: while his deep voice is scary and appropriate for his modern self, he was slim and almost wiry when he was young.
* In ''WesternAnimation/TheAnimalsOfFarthingWood'' when Fox and Vixen's offspring are young pups they sound more like teenagers even though they're supposed to be the animal equivalent of 7- or 8-year-old children at that point.
* Brian Epstein, manager of Music/TheBeatles, took umbrage of having Paul Frees and Lance Percival as the voices of the group in [[WesternAnimation/TheBeatles their Saturday morning cartoon show,]] (Frees as John and George, Percival as Paul and Ringo), which ABC insisted to make them understandable to American audiences. Epstein ordered the cartoons to never air in England, even though the group's corporate entity, Apple, now owns them.
* The ''[[WesternAnimation/BlinkyBill Adventures of Blinky Bill]]'' gives us Slick Possum, an adorable possum with a foxlike face and PuppyDogEyes who sounds like Creator/EddieMurphy when he talks.
* In an episode of ''WesternAnimation/BluesClues'', Blue goes into a world where she can talk and has a childlike voice, very different from her usual yips and whimpers. Then again, she is supposed to be a puppy.
* Tina from ''WesternAnimation/BobsBurgers'' sounds exactly like a guy, for she is actually voiced by one.
* ''WesternAnimation/CodenameKidsNextDoor'' tended to avert both CrossdressingVoices and ChildrenVoicingChildren, and had adult male voice actors voicing the 10-11-year-olds. Nigel, voiced by Creator/BenjaminDiskin, was hit by this the hardest of the leads. While he had a slightly higher pitched voice in early episodes, his voice became deeper and more authoritative as the series went on, ultimately ending up with a voice more suited for an older teenager than an eleven-year-old.
* The title character of ''WesternAnimation/DaveTheBarbarian'' is a tall muscular man but he has a high pitched, scratchy voice. This is justified in the series as he's a coward.
* ''Franchise/{{DCAU}}'':
** In ''WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries'', Mary Dahl (better known as "Baby Doll") looks like a little girl and usually sounds like one but actually has the voice of a bitter middle-aged woman. Justified in that she has a condition that stunts her aging, [[NotAllowedToGrowUp never being allowed to grow up]] physically.
** In ''WesternAnimation/SupermanTheAnimatedSeries'', ''WesternAnimation/JusticeLeague'', and ''WesternAnimation/SupermanBatmanApocalypse'', Granny Goodness is voiced by a man (Creator/EdAsner) who is not trying to hide or pitch his voice at all. Hearing an old woman being voiced by what is obviously a man is disconcerting at best, which is probably the effect the creators were gunning for, given the [[EvilOldFolks kind of person Granny Goodness is]].
* Played for laughs in one episode of ''WesternAnimation/DextersLaboratory'' after Dee-Dee's voice became a ''very'' exaggerated baritone after fooling around with a piece of Dexter's equipment too much. (But it worked out for her in the end; she gained a part in a Barbershop Quartet.)
* The ''WesternAnimation/DogCity'' episode "Radio Daze" took this tack when Ace met the cast of the WFIDO [[SoapWithinAShow soap opera]] ''It's A Dog's Life''. TheVamp was overweight, TheHero was a broken-down drunk, etc.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheDragonPrince'': Aaravos is a very young looking and attractive elf, but he has a deep menacing voice more befitting a large monster.
* For the ''WesternAnimation/DuckTales2017'' reboot: Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Webby are voiced by adults (Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, Bobby Moynihan and Creator/KateMicucci) who sound more like teenagers than children.
* ''WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy'':
** Baby Stewie has a deep if slightly-effeminate theatrical British accent (sounding similar to Rex Harrison's character in ''Film/MyFairLady'' -- at least in the pre-2005 revival episodes). That's hardly the wackiest thing they've got.
** Chris is a big lummox but has a really grating, high-pitched voice (though the earlier episodes, his voice was low and dopey-sounding, it wasn't the kind of SimpletonVoice you hear in many other cartoons. It sounded more like Creator/SethGreen's real voice, but goofier, since it was based on Buffalo Bill from ''The Silence of the Lambs''). To add to the irony, his voice actor, Creator/SethGreen, is a rather short man with a naturally deep and gravelly voice (especially when he does his documentary narrator voice on ''WesternAnimation/RobotChicken'').
** Mike Henry, who voices TokenBlack Cleveland, is actually as white as a guy can get.
* Jack Mercer played all the voices in Joe Oriolo's TV revival of ''[[WesternAnimation/JoeOrioloFelixTheCat Felix the Cat]],'' so sometimes some of his other familiar voices will come out. The voice of ComicStrip/{{Popeye}} is heard coming from a sentient airplane in one short while the voice of Wimpy is heard during a phone call to Felix. Inversely, two ''Felix'' voices are heard elsewhere, in Paramount's Modern Madcap "Bouncing Benny" (a doctor with the voice of the Professor) and the Noveltoon "Miceniks" (a beatnik mouse with the voice of Rock Bottom).
* While Creator/JuneForay's voice fit Karen and most of the other kids in the original version of ''WesternAnimation/FrostyTheSnowman'', the same can't be said for the voices Paul Frees gave the two main boys. They have raspy, gravelly voices that made them sound like chain smoking midgets. This is probably why they were later redubbed with actual boys sometime in the 1970s.
* ''WesternAnimation/GravityFalls'':
** Voice actor Jason Ritter, as Dipper, doesn't sound like a twelve-year-old boy--but Dipper ''is'' the viewpoint character for the series, so it's possible that Dipper is giving himself the voice he imagines. In the episode "[[VignetteEpisode Bottomless Pit!]]", twelve-year-old Dipper is embarrassed about his squeaky puberty voice (and the techno remixes thereof) and takes a voice-altering tonic that gives him a deep announcer voice. Dipper thinks it's awesome, but everyone else is creeped out. [[GrumpyOldMan Grunkle Stan]] drinks a similar tonic by mistake, and winds up sounding like a SassyBlackWoman.
** Though Grenda has a huge build for her age, it is obvious that she is young and female but her voice is deep and manly. Apparently, she isn't aware of this due to the fact that when Stan asks if she has a cold or if something was wrong with her voice she seems genuinely hurt and asks "Why would you say that?" By the time of "The Last Mabelcorn", she seems downright proud of her unusual voice.
* ''WesternAnimation/HeyArnold'':
** Since the series used real children to voice the child characters, it was inevitable that their voices would change. Most of them were recast when that happened (Arnold was recast ''five'' times) others weren't (Gerald, Harold, Stinky and all of the girls). Gerald, Stinky, and Helga ended up possessing deep, teenaged voices in the last few seasons despite only being nine years old.
** Tish Wittenberg is a pretty blonde but has a deep, gravelly voice befitting a 50-year-old chain smoker.
* Shannon from ''WesternAnimation/HomeMovies'' is a school bully who happens to have the voice of Creator/EmoPhillips.
* ''WesternAnimation/HowMurraySavedChristmas'': The Easter Bunny looks all cute and cuddly then he opens his mouth and has a surprisingly deep voice. Likewise the narrator of the story, [[spoiler: Baby New Year.]]
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Jem}}'':
** Stormer seems like the type of woman who would be softspoken but still, it's hard to imagine that cute, squeaky voice coming from her. It's even odder as her singing voice [[SingingVoiceDissonance is quite deep.]]
** Techrat has a cartoony high pitched voice that blends oddly with his looks.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Kaeloo}}'': Mr. Cat is only a preteen, but he sounds like a grown adult.
* You wouldn't expect ''WesternAnimation/KevinSpencer's'' title character, a cough-syrup swilling, chain-smoking alcoholic sociopath with a broken home, to have the voice of an angel... but as seen during his brief stint with the school choir, he does. He chalks it up to getting whacked in the 'nards a lot.
* ''WesternAnimation/KickButtowski'' is around 10 years old and happens to be quite short in stature, but he has a quite deep and adult-sounding voice. This is especially true in the Ukrainian dub, where he has an even deeper baritone voice, almost as if he's singing opera, which is really noticeable when he does a BigNo.
* In ''WesternAnimation/KimPossibleMovieSoTheDrama'' Drakken once employed a "sumo-ninja." Although in his first appearance during a battle with Kim and Ron, his voice was deep as to be expected, thanks to a nasty wedgie from Ron, in his last, [[InstantSoprano his voice was so high]] it prompted Ron to tell him "Dude, don't talk. Seriously, it ruins your mystique."
* ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra'':
** General Iroh II appears to be at least 30, but he shares the same [[Creator/DanteBasco voice actor]] and voice of 16-year-old Zuko from ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender''. Also a case of RealityIsUnrealistic, since Basco is 37, and [[http://rufiozuko.tumblr.com/post/17937045435/for-those-who-were-wondering-if-this-is-really he sounds exactly like that]] even when not acting, making him a real-life example of VocalDissonance.
** The same thing happened with Zaheer in season 3, who's old enough to have his hair go grey but sounds much younger. This is Music/HenryRollins natural voice and he's in his 50s.
** Tahno, a lissome AgentPeacock PrettyBoy, has Creator/RamiMalek's rocks-on-velvet purr for a voice.
* ''WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes'':
** Whenever [[WesternAnimation/WileECoyoteAndTheRoadrunner Wile E. Coyote]] talks in a WesternAnimation/BugsBunny cartoon, he sounds like a refined gentleman.
** Director Friz Freleng liked this gag.
*** In "Yankee Doodle Daffy" his protege, a slack-jawed little juvenile duck, sings in a booming baritone.
*** In "Back Alley Op-Roar", Sylvester hands over singing duties to a big, bulky, dim-looking cat... who breaks into a dainty, lilting soprano.
*** In "Curtain Razor", we begin at a talent agency where one hopeful is auditioning in the next room with an earth-shaking baritone voice. The singer finally emerges from the door, revealing that he is a grasshopper.
** The Creator/TexAvery cartoon, "WesternAnimation/PageMissGlory", features a young bellhop in a small-town hotel named Abner, who is awaiting the titular celebrity's arrival. Abner is a tall, lanky guy with buck teeth, who looks like he would speak in your standard hillbilly SimpletonVoice, but instead, is voiced by the ten-year-old ''Film/TheLittleRascals'' cast member, Tommy Bond.
** In ''WesternAnimation/MeetJohnDoughboy'' As a tall and short men looks at the draft numbers, the tall guy comments on their draft numbers with a high voice. In the next scene they are marching and the short guy comments in Billy Bletcher's deep voice, "You!... and your education!"
* In ''WesternAnimation/TheLoudHouse'', we have Luna Loud, who, despite being only 15 years old, has a rather raspy, croaky TomboyishVoice.
* ''WesternAnimation/MajorLazer'' has 23-year-old Creator/JohnBoyega voicing Blkmrkt, an AsianAndNerdy 11-year-old, without much change to his natural pitch.
* On Terrytoons' TV series ''WesternAnimation/TheMightyHeroes'', Diaperman -- a baby -- has a deep, rough, husky voice.
* Often in ''WesternAnimation/MightyMouse'' some of the cutesy looking male mice with long girlish eyelashes would sing in deep baritone voices.
* The title character of ''WesternAnimation/MiloMurphysLaw'' is a thirteen-year-old voiced by the fully-grown Music/WeirdAlYankovic.
* In the British dub of ''WesternAnimation/TheMrMenShow'', Mr. Nervous has quite a high-pitched voice, especially when he screams.
* In the French dub of ''WesternAnimation/MuppetBabies'', several of the male characters have slightly deeper voices, compared to their original English versions. The cast was changed after the second season, and Gonzo's second actor gave him [[http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2eowx3_les-muppet-babies-generation-du-futur_fun an extremely deep voice that sounds nothing like a child]].
** Similarly, the Castilian Spanish dub gave Kermit a deep-sounding voice that sounds the same as his adult counterpart on ''Barrio Sésamo'' (the Spanish European co-production of ''Series/SesameStreet'').
* ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'':
** Happens to Fluttershy in the episode "Bridle Gossip", when the normally soft-spoken Pegasus is highly embarrassed to find herself speaking in a BadassBaritone voice. Spike jokingly calls her "Flutterguy".
** Invoked in "Filli Vanilli" when Fluttershy drinks a Poison Joke-laced potion to purposefully get a deep voice and temporarily replace Big Mac in Rarity's singing quartet after he loses his voice doing a turkey call. This time everypony refers to her with that voice as [[CallBack Flutterguy]].
** In the Polish dub, Spitfire is voiced by a guy. From season 2 onward, she is voiced by a woman and sounds much different.
** [[AscendedMeme Derpy Hooves]], as voiced in "The Last Roundup" (before it was redubbed), has a husky, almost boyish voice in contrast [[AscendedFanon to her airheaded appearance and personality]]. [[WordOfGod According to]] Creator/TabithaStGermain, she didn't realize Derpy was female and did the voice with a neighbor's son in mind. In the Hungarian dub, she's actually voiced by a male.
** Babs Seed seems to be about the Cutie Mark Crusaders' age, but her voice sounds significantly deeper than even Scootaloo's.
** Similar to the Derpy example above, in "Trade Ya!", [[EnsembleDarkhorse Minuette]] has a boyish voice similar to Spike; possibly a mistake on Creator/CathyWeseluck's part.
** Due to their [[VocalEvolution voice actresses hitting puberty]], Applebloom and Sweetie Belle sound older than intended in later seasons. By season 7 the series got around to aging them a bit in order to excuse their voices.
** The Romanian dub is guilty with this due to them trying hard to give nearly every single female character (the princesses and elders are mostly an exception to this, thankfully) the voice of a little girl, which really doesn't work with most of the ponies being most likely adults. One of the most egregious examples is in the song "At the Gala", where they chose little girls to sing the chorus, which not only heavily contrasts with the original's (and really, any other language) deeper voices that make the chorus, but it results in even grown men sounding like little girls. One of the reasons this dub is considered among the worst for the show.
** In the early seasons of the show, Bon Bon had a plethora of different voices due to the background ponies not having consistent voices. This was averted as of Season 5's "Slice of Life", with Andrea Libman voicing her from that point onward.
* Francios from ''O.G. Readmore Meets Puss In Boots''. He looks to be about 10 years old, but his voice actor Will Ryan makes him sound more like a teenager or young adult.
* ''WesternAnimation/PennZeroPartTimeHero'':
** Boone usually [[AvertedTrope averts]] this by having a mellow voice that suits his laid-back personality, but his ''scream'' sounds like nails being scraped down a chalkboard. The first time Penn hears it, he has to ask to confirm that it's Boone who's making the sound.
** One of the toy citizens in "Baby-Pocalypse" is a [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter tiny baby giraffe]] with a deep baritone voice.
* In ''WesternAnimation/PepperAnn'' Pepper Ann's younger sister "Moose" is around 8 or 9 years old and she has a deep husky voice like a teenage boy. This causes much in and out of universe ViewerGenderConfusion.
* In the two-part GrandFinale of ''WesternAnimation/PeterPanAndThePirates'' "Ages Of Pan" in which Peter is tired of being a child and causes himself to age several decades at a time, when he's an adult in his thirties he still has the voice of a then 16-year-old ''Creator/JasonMarsden''. As an old man, Marsden uses a slower, weaker, sounding voice.
* Isabella of ''WesternAnimation/PhineasAndFerb'' is an adorable [[ScoutOut Fireside Girl]] with exactly the voice you'd expect, until called on to announce a monster truck rally or hockey game. At that point, she switches to a [[ContraltoOfDanger deeper voice]] [[CuteButCacophonic with enough volume to knock a grown man out of his seat]].
* Brucho from ''WesternAnimation/{{Plasmo}}'' has a high-pitched voice and thick lateral lisp, which heavily contrasts the somewhat threatening armor that he constantly wears.
* In ''WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls'', Lil' Arturo of the Gangreen Gang is a midget (maybe under 2 feet) and he speaks in a deep, gruff voice. Mitch Mitchelson also has a gruff voice, and he's ''five''.
* Creator/TexAvery's classic short, ''WesternAnimation/RedHotRidingHood'', has the title character speaking in a feminine Creator/KatharineHepburn voice; however, when she rejects Wolfie's advances, she does so in an [[https://youtu.be/5bhkQkVSWos?t=3m15s unfitting man's voice for comedic effect.]]
* In the ''WesternAnimation/RegularShow'' episode "Don", there is a flashback to Rigby's sixth birthday party. The human children at the party sound appropriate for that age, but Mordecai, Rigby, and Don sound almost exactly like their adult selves.
* In an episode of ''WesternAnimation/SabrinaTheAnimatedSeries'', an adult man walking down the street had a high-pitched little girl voice. ''Done'' by a girl.
* In the 2018 reboot of ''WesternAnimation/SheRaAndThePrincessesOfPower'', Hordak has a smooth and refined voice, despite being a seven-foot tall alien with bat-like facial features, glowing red eyes, fangs, and claws. It's a sharp contrast to his gutteral, raspy voice in the [[WesternAnimation/SheRaPrincessOfPower 1980s series]].
* In the Pith Possum segment "The Bride Of Darkness" from ''WesternAnimation/TheShnookumsAndMeatFunnyCartoonShow'' we have villainess Shirley Pimple, a cute little girl who speaks with the deep gruff voice of ''Creator/BradGarrett''.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'':
** In "[[Recap/TheSimpsonsS6E21ThePTADisbands The PTA Disbands]]", Bart gets hold of a construction supervisor's bullhorn and starts giving out destructive orders. The supervisor grabs the horn away and complains that people should have been able to tell the difference between his voice and that of a 10-year-old boy -- the joke being that the supervisor sounds exactly like Bart (including using the CatchPhrase "¡Ay caramba!").
** Ned Flanders literally screams like a girl, and at one point Bart mistakes his singing for that of Jessica Lovejoy.
** In "[[Recap/TheSimpsonsS3E1StarkRavingDad Stark Raving Dad]]", Homer is put in a mental hospital. His roommate, who claims to be Music/MichaelJackson, is, in fact, a very large, intimidating man... with Michael Jackson's voice. Subverted when it turns out his real voice is actually deep and gravelly. (He's actually a white, Polish-American from New Jersey, but Homer [[FailedASpotCheck fails to pick up on this important clue]], not having ever seen Michael Jackson before.) In an interesting twist, the character actually ''was'' voiced by Michael Jackson (who was surprisingly gifted as a vocal mimic). However, due to a contract dispute, he was billed as "John Jay Smith" in the credits.
** In [[Recap/TheSimpsonsS5E9TheLastTemptationOfHomer The Last Temptation of Homer",]] a trip to the doctor gives Bart several treatments that make him look much [[HollywoodNerd nerdier]] and as a quick gag, when Bart's throat gets sprayed, his voice and even speech patterns sound exactly like Creator/JerryLewis from [[Film/TheNuttyProfessor1963 The Nutty Professor.]]
* For the French dub of ''WesternAnimation/TheSmurfs'', the Smurflings still retain their adult-like voices, after having been de-aged in Father Time's clock in their debut episode. (The same goes for at least Nat and Slouchy in the German dub.)
%%* ''WesternAnimation/SofiaTheFirst'': The Silent Knight avoids talking because he fears people might mock him for his voice.
* Princess Sally in ''WesternAnimation/SonicSatAM'' resembles a cute chipmunk with the voice of a mature, grown woman.
* In ''WesternAnimation/StarVsTheForcesOfEvil'', Star looks like a young girl but her voice is a lot huskier sounding than her youthful appearance and childish attitude suggests.
* ''WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse'':
** Sour Cream is a noodle-skinny rave kid, with the fairly deep voice of Creator/BrianPosehn. He's also had that voice [[RuleOfFunny since he was a baby]].
** Topaz is a giant, imposing gem Fusion with a sweet, gentle, and surprisingly high pitched and young-sounding voice.
** Sunstone is about as big as Topaz and has a [[TopHeavyGuy massive upper body]], but speaks in a high female voice.
** Episode-specific example: Shortly before she attacks the Crystal Gems in [[Recap/StevenUniverseS1E26OceanGem "Ocean Gem"]], Lapis speaks through a water clone of Steven in her own voice.
* Speaking of Weird Al Yankovic contributing to this trope, he guest starred on ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitansGo'', voicing none other than ''freaking [[https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/ComicBook/Darkseid Darkseid]]''! He sounds deep and gravelly at first, but [[ItMakesSenseInContext after taking a cough drop]], he begins to speak in Weird Al's natural speaking voice. It truly has to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KykmB5fJxmI be seen to be believed]].
* Henry from ''WesternAnimation/ThomasTheTankEngine'', despite being portrayed as a large tender locomotive like Gordon, actually speaks in a high pitched, whiny voice in the US dub. The UK dub gives him a deeper, more fitting voice.
* ''WesternAnimation/ThunderCatsRoar'': Lion-O looks like a child, but has a very deep and heroic-sounding voice.
* In classic shorts Jerry from ''WesternAnimation/TomAndJerry'' had a deep voice in the few times he spoke, which was at odds with the fact he's a small, cute mouse. In modern adaptations Jerry is given a much more high pitched, often even feminine, voice whether he speaks or is just making noises.
* Lightning on ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama''. He's a built, black JerkJock with an incredibly high-pitched voice.
* Ped in ''WesternAnimation/TransformersRobotsInDisguise2015''. An intimidating worm-bot with paralyzing pincers and giant claws who looks straight up menacing. [[CantUnhearIt He sounds]] [[Creator/EddieDeezen like]] [[WesternAnimation/DextersLaboratory Mandark.]]
* The Butt Witch of ''WesternAnimation/TwelveForever'' has a deep masculine voice, but is clearly a woman. Granted, she's voiced by Creator/MattBerry.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheVentureBrothers'': Doctor Girlfriend (now Dr. Mrs. The Monarch) has a really gravelly voice that doesn't sound like it belongs to a woman, especially one of that figure. Jokes about her being transgender aside, it seems to be that she just smokes a lot.
* Jake Amore in ''WesternAnimation/WhatAboutMimi'' is a very big, muscular man who stars in lots of movies. In his films, he has a very deep, baritone voice. However, his voice is digitally altered in them. His real voice is very high and squeaky.
%%* Several minor characters in ''WesternAnimation/WhateverHappenedToRobotJones'', specifically the "And don't forget about me" kid.
* The third season of ''WesternAnimation/YoungJustice'', ''Outsiders'', has a bit in the episode "Nightmare Monkeys" homaging ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitansGo'' with the ComicBook/DoomPatrol, complete with the voice cast of ''Go'' as the Patrol--resulting in [[Creator/ScottMenville the Chief sounding like Robin]].

* VocalDissonance/VideoGames

[[folder:Video Games]]
* Yamato Takeru from ''VideoGame/AkanesasuSekaiDeKimiToUtau'' is a boy, but Creator/RieKugimiya uses her [[Manga/{{Gintama}} Kagura]] voice when voicing him.
* ''VideoGame/BendyAndTheInkMachine'': Henry may be TheGhost, but even if he quit working for Joey Drew Studios in his 20s, he'd probably have to be at least in his 50s by the time the game begins. His voice sounds too young for that.
* ''VideoGame/BioshockInfinite'': A ''very'' effective example with the [[FluffyTheTerrible Songbird]]. You would typically expect to hear deep, booming "raaaaawr" noises from a hulking, mechanical abomination gunning for your sorry ass, not ear-splitting, banshee-like screeching that sounds just as hauntingly beautiful as it is '''pants-shittingly terrifying''' to hear.
* Manah from ''VideoGame/{{Drakengard}}'' had the voice as what would you expect from a 6-year-old girl and a deep creepy male voice that she can randomly switch. Can you imagine a little girl saying "lalalalala"? Good, now try to imagine her saying it with a deep male voice. Yes, it's just as creepy and off-putting as you imagine.
* Kurodōji from ''VideoGame/{{Onmyoji}}'' is a cute, if not [[ViewerGenderConfusion androgynous]], little boy with a deep and honestly ''frightening'' voice that is always either [[LaughingMad cackling]], hissing or [[GutturalGrowler growling]] provided by Creator/TomokazuSugita of all people. Well, he ''is'' an AxCrazy CreepyChild.
* ''VideoGame/{{Psychonauts}}'':
** The turtle who [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMb9vnbuR_Q talks in a sexy voice]].
** Or the beautiful, shimmering Bonita Soleil with a gravelly "eats five packs of cigarettes a day" [[LarynxDissonance voice.]]
** Or for that matter, [[TheIgor Sheegor]] with her [[WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls squeaky Bubbles voice]]. [[Creator/TaraStrong Guess who's voicing Sheegor?]]
* ''VideoGame/{{Prototype}}'':
** Captain Cross (also known as "the Specialist") is the sort of person with a reputation of being a hardened, experienced badass capable of taking on [[PersonOfMassDestruction Alex]] [[HumanoidAbomination Mercer]] in a straight fight and getting away alive. He also has the softest voice of anyone in the game (except maybe Karen Parker), particularly when compared to [[GutturalGrowler Alex]].
** Additionally, Alex Mercer can shapeshift; in cutscenes, he can also mimic voices but in normal gameplay, he doesn't. Which means you can be disguised as a young woman, but keep the [[GutturalGrowler gravelly voice]].
* In ''VideoGame/{{Disgaea 2|CursedMemories}}: [[UpdatedRerelease Dark Hero Days]]'', there's [[NoNameGiven Actress]], a female Entei who has a voice that's easily the among most feminine sounding in the entire series, despite the fact that she's a towering, musclebound, humanoid dragon.
* ''Franchise/KingdomHearts'':
** Brief, entirely serious and [[NightmareFuel/KingdomHearts horrifying]] example from the end of ''VideoGame/KingdomHearts358DaysOver2''; [[spoiler: The "Xion Attacks" cutscene. Sora's face. Alyson Stoner's voice. ''It does not mesh.'' ]]
** [[BigBad Xemnas]] is a less dramatic case. Despite having the Bishonen look he has a fairly deep, monotone voice, and is done by Creator/NorioWakamoto in Japan.
** The Tyranto Rex dream eater in ''VideoGame/{{Kingdom Hearts 3D|DreamDropDistance}}'' doesn't sound nearly as fearsome as it looks, making noises resembling those of a ticked-off housecat rather then the terrifying roars the creature it's based on (presumably) made. You'll learn to dread/love the sound regardless, since [[RoarBeforeBeating it still means some pain is on the way for you/your enemies.]]
** ''[[VideoGame/KingdomHeartsChainOfMemories Re:Chain of Memories]]'' has a slight variant. Sora is supposed to be the same age as he was in ''Kingdom Hearts I''. But since Creator/HaleyJoelOsment hit puberty and recorded for the remake ''after'' doing ''Kingdom Hearts II'', Sora instead sounds the way he does in ''Kingdom Hearts II'', albeit in a slightly higher pitch. The same instance occurs in ''[[VideoGame/KingdomHeartsDreamDropDistance Dream Drop Distance]]'', but as the consequence for this is a case of MentalTimeTravel it could just as easily be interpreted as VoicesAreMental.
* ''Franchise/SuperMarioBros'':
** Mario (since he gained a voice actor in ''VideoGame/SuperMario64'') has a very high falsetto voice, especially when he's excited, almost like WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse. Especially noticeable when contrasted to [[DivergentCharacterEvolution Luigi's]] more down-to-earth tenor.
** [[BigBad Bowser]] for some reason, actually spoke in a high, squeaky voice in the game ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'' as opposed to having a more appropriate-sounding voice in the game ''VideoGame/SuperMario64''. Either this or they actually made Bowser feel out of character. Fortunately, Bowser was once again given a more appropriate-sounding voice in the game ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy'', which made him a more sinister character than in the past games.
** Wario and Luigi in ''VideoGame/MarioParty'' sound very odd when compared to their voices in ''Mario Kart 64'', which was released before ''Mario Party''. In ''Mario Kart 64'', Luigi sounds deeper than Mario while Wario sounds high-pitched and nasally. ''Mario Party'' has Luigi with a very high pitched voice that somehow is higher pitched than Mario's voice while Wario's voice sounds ''very'' gruff and deep. It turns out that Nintendo recycled the voice clips used in the Japanese version of ''Mario Party'' for Luigi and Wario, even though they had Charles Martinet voice the two of them previously in the English version. Nintendo would use Martinet to voice Luigi and Wario in all future games.
* ''VideoGame/GuiltyParty'' has Butch. In appearance, he's Film/{{Shaft}}-lite. His voice, however, is high pitched and slightly lisping. While never [[LampshadeHanging the subject of an actual joke]], it is suggestive of his nature as a GentleGiant and is definitely one of the more comedic aspects of his character.
* Tony Jay voiced many characters in the ''VideoGame/LegacyOfKain'' series, usually powerful and intimidating beings. He also voiced the kindly, polite and unsure boy King William the Just. His delivery was fine, but his voice was too low and mature.
* [[WarriorMonk Xavi]] in ''VideoGame/SengokuBasara'' is one of the biggest characters in-game, yet his voice sounds quite odd and high.
* In ''VideoGame/Spyro2RiptosRage'', there's a sidequest involving reuniting a Land Blubber and Breezebuilder, appropriately named Theatre/RomeoAndJuliet. When you finally reach the latter, the pretty, colorful bird turns out to sound like [[WesternAnimation/TheLionKing1994 Zazu]]. Sadly averted in the [[VideoGame/SpyroReignitedTrilogy Reignited Trilogy]], where she has a more appropriate-sounding female voice.
* The adorable little [[http://starfox.wikia.com/wiki/Trainer raccoon teacher]] in ''VideoGame/StarFox64'''s training mode originally spoke in clicks, but in the 3DS remake, he was finally given a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=to_sk12YQVI smooth, deep voice]] akin to Music/BarryWhite.
* In ''VideoGame/TheSpaceBar'', you spend a lot of time chasing after a hidden criminal who taunts you occasionally over your PDA with a deep, very creepy and threatening voice. When you finally catch up with him, you find out [[spoiler:that his true form as a shapeshifter is a tiny little utterly adorable blue Smurf-like alien thing]].
* ''VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft'':
** For the most part, bosses sound about how you'd expect them to. Then there's the [[http://www.wowhead.com/npc=33293 XT-002 Deconstructor]]: an absolutely ''enormous'' killer robot... with a child's voice and personality.
** Unintentional example with Deiza Plaguehorn, a draenei Master Pet Tamer in the Eastern Plaguelands, who despite appearing to be a Death Knight with necrotized skin and brown Acherus Knight gear has a regular draenei female voice instead of the gravely voice that [=DKs=] have.
** Alexstrasza the Life-Binder's voice in patch 4.0 was that of an old woman. You could see what they were going for-- she's the Aspect of Life, so a comforting, grandmotherly voice makes sense for her from a story point of view. Problem is, she takes the form of a young elf bombshell who runs around in a ChainmailBikini. The effect was ''extremely'' disconcerting. Later patches gave her humanoid form a new voice more suited for its appearance and made the older voice only play when she's in her dragon form, before eventually removing it entirely.
* ''VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia'':
** Yuri is a thin, LongHairedPrettyBoy who has been subject to numerous instances of ViewerGenderConfusion (and [[DudeLooksLikeALady in-story gender confusion]]), so many are surprised to find that he has a rather deep, masculine voice.
** There's also Duke. He's a somewhat dandy-looking PrettyBoy, who happens to have the voice of Creator/JamiesonPrice.
* In ''VideoGame/TalesOfXillia2'', you'll occasionally run into some very unusual sounding cats. Said cats are actually voiced by the actors who provided the voices of the main cast, and they generally aren't even trying to sound convincing. For instance, one is obviously [[Creator/TomokazuSugita Alvin]] going "Nyao, nyao" in a sarcastic manner, while another is clearly [[Creator/RyotaroOkiayu Gaius]] meowing in [[TheComicallySerious his]] [[BadassBaritone usual tone]].
* In ''VideoGame/ProfessorLaytonAndTheDiabolicalBox'' [[spoiler: Anton]]'s boyish face and deep, [[StupidSexyFlanders seductive]] voice don't seem to match.
* ''VideoGame/FireEmblemAwakening'':
** In the Japanese version, the [[ShrinkingViolet shy]] yet sensual and ladylike dancer Olivia has a voice that sounds more fitting for a child or preteen than for [[VagueAge a late teenager/young woman]] - in fact, her voice actress (Rei Matsuzaki) also voices [[OurDragonsAreDifferent Nah]], a preteen-looking (and, occasionally, preteen-acting) girl who is more fitting for that voice overall. Creator/KarenStrassman, who voices her in English, gives her a voice more befitting of her [[VagueAge probable (teens/early twenties)]] age.
** All three of the English voice options for a male [[PlayerCharacter Avatar]] are very deep and mature, and they clash with the fact that one of the Avatar's three body types includes [[AdorablyPrecociousChild a childlike appearance]]. A similar effect carries over to the Avatar's youthful-looking [[KidFromTheFuture child]], Morgan, while this only applies to the female version in English, Male Morgan has [[Creator/YoshimasaHosoya deep]] [[Creator/ToddHaberkorn voice]] in ''both'' languages.
** In the dub, Creator/EdenRiegel gave [[OurDragonsAreDifferent Nah]] a more mature-sounding, late teens/early 20s voice, possibly to match Nah's personality being mature for her age.
** Some people are rather surprised when they hear [[Creator/LiamOBrien dub Inigo talk]], expecting the voice of a boy in his mid-to-late teens and getting one more fitting of a young adult.
* The English voice for Nyx in ''VideoGame/FireEmblemFates'' is very high and mouse-like in contrast to [[Really700YearsOld her age.]] Effie also has a gruff voice despite being a LadyOfWar.
* Unintentional yet remarkably common in the Space Stage of ''VideoGame/{{Spore}}'' since voices of aliens contacted by the player are chosen based on class, regardless of how the aliens in question actually look. This tends to result in things like attractive females with gruff masculine voices, [[EldritchAbomination Eldritch Abominations]] with soothing lyrical voices, and hulking HumongousMecha with [[{{Keet}} overexcited high pitched voices]]
* In the ''Franchise/{{Kirby}}'' series, this trope is definitely in play when you consider Meta Knight's voice. He has a deep and mature voice, befitting his role, but he's still just a WaddlingHead, [[spoiler:and is just as cute as Kirby when he's unmasked.]]
* Rosie in ''VideoGame/ValkyriaChronicles'' smokes quite a bit in the manga and apparently off-screen as well, leading one of the character artists in the VC Design Archive to wonder if this could give her singing voice a gravelly tone. It doesn't, and no part of this habit is reflected by her Japanese or English actresses during the scenes where she can instead be heard singing with perfect clarity.
* T. Hawk's English voice in ''VideoGame/StreetFighterIV''. You wouldn't expect a Native American man that's built like a mountain to have the voice of what sounds like a teenager.
* ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'':
** Shaymin, introduced in ''VideoGame/PokemonDiamondAndPearl'', is a hedgehog. Its cry sounds like birds chirping.
** Dialga, introduced in the same set of games, sounds like a scared chicken.
** In the SpinOff game ''VideoGame/DetectivePikachu'', the titular Pikachu [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9j9RWkPstc speaks with a young man's voice]] despite his adorable Pikachu appearance; even his PokemonSpeak is unusually deep. There was a petition for the American dub of ''Detective Pikachu'' to be voiced by Creator/DannyDeVito. He ended up being voiced by Creator/KaijiTang.
* ''Franchise/RatchetAndClank'' series
** Libra. She's female, but her voice is that of a man's, thus, explaining why [[BigBad Dr. Nefarious]] sounded annoyed when he said her name.
** In the [[CanonDiscontinuity discounted]] game ''VideoGame/RatchetAndClankSizeMatters'', there is also [[TheCutie Luna]]. At first, it's averted, as she sounds like an adorable little girl. [[spoiler: But once you free her from Mungo, she suddenly speaks like an adult woman when she pulls a FaceHeelTurn. It's later revealed that "she" is actually a [[NoBiologicalSex genderless]] puppet-ship shaped like a child, and is TheDragon to Otto Destruct. When you finally confront Luna on Dayni Moon, it speaks with a male voice]].
* Teddie from ''VideoGame/{{Persona 4}}'' is a {{mascot}} character who looks like he should be voiced by a woman, but is voiced by Creator/DaveWittenberg and Creator/SamRiegel, doing an ''impression'' of a typical mascot character in the English version. (Albeit his Japanese voice actor, Creator/KappeiYamaguchi, ''does'' actually fit the character to a T.) Of course, being a mascot character, this isn't really all that noticeable, until [[spoiler: he gains a human form, who most definitely ''should'' be voiced by a woman, as this is what you would expect from a prepubescent boy with his ultimate {{Bishounen}} looks, but the voice actors go, in fact, for an even ''deeper'' tone of voice when voicing Teddie as a human, which can be quite jarring in the first few scenes after the human form's first appearance and takes some time to get used to. For the Japanese version, Yamaguchi stated at one point that he originally even intended to use the same pitch of voice for both of Teddie's forms, but the Dissonance was so startling that he ''needed'' to change one of his different voice-types instead.]]
** And once you've gotten used to Teddie's voice, [[spoiler:Shadow Teddie appears, whose voice is a deeply unfitting baritone rasp.]]
* ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'':
** [[VideoGame/FireEmblemElibe Lyn]] appears as an Assist Trophy, [[Creator/MakikoOhmoto Her Japanese voice]] fits her given age of 15/18 (Respectively in the Japanese and English versions), but [[Creator/LaniMinella her English voice]] is ''much'' deeper, and more fitting for a woman in her thirties. ''VideoGame/FireEmblemHeroes'' replaces Lani Minella with Creator/WendeeLee, and she sounds more properly youthful.
** In ''Brawl'', Ivysaur/Fushigisou has a [[Creator/TomokoKawakami surprisingly high-pitched voice in the Japanese version]], this is coming from a mini-dinosaur with a plant on its back. The English version gave it a much deeper voice in contrast.
** [[VideoGame/PokemonXAndY Greninja]]'s [[PokemonSpeak cries]] in English are in a high-pitched, squeaky and nasally voice despite being a stealthy and serious adultlike ninja frog Pokémon. The voice actor is retained from Ash's Froakie (its unevolved form) from the ''Anime/{{Pokemon}}'' anime, using a ''slightly'' deeper tone than what he used for Froakie.
** Mewtwo's (telepathic) voice is appropriately deep and masculine for a semi-muscular human-shape Pokémon that is [[NoBiologicalSex technically genderless but appears to identify as male]]. Where this trope comes into play is when it takes its Y-type Mega Evolution in ''for [=3DS/=]Wii U'' and ''Ultimate'', acquiring a more condensed figure that looks much closer to its progenitor, [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter Mew]]... but retains the deep masculine voice.[[labelnote:*]]Worth noting is that when a Mega Mewtwo Y appeared in the anime, it was a different Mewtwo than the original and spoke with a female telepathic voice.[[/labelnote]]
* In ''Videogame/AkatsukiBlitzkampf'', [[TheHero Akatsuki's]] voice is surprisingly [[BadassBaritone deep]] for a {{fighting game}} hero, probably to remark on how he's ''not'' a young man [[OlderThanTheyLook despite his almost teenage-like looks]] and to offer a contrast with [[BigBad Murakumo's]] borderline TenorBoy-like voice. Similarly, [[DarkActiongirl Marilyn Sue Dae Jie]] talks in such a high-pitched tone that she sounds almost like a little girl... and at first hearing, it clashes a lot with her FemmeFatale looks
** The first case is rather hilarious because [[TalkingToHimself Akatsuki and Murakumo are voiced by the same dude.]]
** Marilyn may be doing this on ''on purpose'' as part of her [[ObfuscatingStupidity bubbly Chinese girl act]].
* ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXV'':
** Noctis looks like your typical {{Bishonen}} protagonist, but in the English ''Episode Duscae'' demo he has a surprisingly deep and [[GutturalGrowler raspy]] voice. This was due to the voice acting being rushed and is averted in the game proper where his voice is younger and lighter.
** Dino Ghiranze is a svelte pretty boy on par with Noctis, which has thrown players for a loop when he speaks with a thick, stereotypical New York accent.
* Not unlike the above examples, in ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXII'', Ashe's deceased husband Rasler looks like a typical {{Bishonen}} but his voice is surprisingly deep. It's jarring because he doesn't talk at all in his earlier appearances until [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdMh6iN5bJM a flashback]] late in the game.
* Lenne from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyX2'' is revealed to have had a rather husky voice for a young woman who looked no older than her 20's.
* In ''Demon's Score'' the player can infuse Serenity with the power of various demons she has slain. In doing so it causes both her clothes to change and her to take on the voice of whatever demon she is currently infused with. Some of those demons are male leading to this trope.
* In ''VideoGame/{{Fallout 4}}'', Assaultrons have a FemBot design, but a masculine voice (played by actress Colleen Delany). Weapons vendor KL-E-0 of Goodneighbor makes the Assaultron voice sound dangerous and sultry.
* ''VideoGame/XenobladeChroniclesX'': Rock is a hulking monster the size of a Skell. He ''sounds'' like a young boy.
* ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIV'':
** In the 2.5 main story, you meet a certain character that has a very booming and deep voice that is suited to him because he's a dragon that is nearly the size of an airship. Later on, he gains a new body that is no bigger than a person's head, yet he still retains the same deep voice.
** Near the end of the ''Shadowbringers'' story, the player character is SuddenlySpeaking [[spoiler: due to Arbert fusing his soul with theirs]] and use their voice in that one scene regardless of the player's gender.
** Near the end of the 5.1 story, you run into a Nu Mou whose voice sounds like an old woman's. However, said Nu Mou is actually male.
* In ''Videogame/{{Bloodborne}}'' ''The Old Hunters'', [[spoiler:Ludwig the Accursed]] looks, sounds, and fights like a crazed and monstrous beast. [[spoiler:When the light of the Moonlight Greatsword restores a measure of his sanity and he becomes Ludwig the Holy Blade again]], he speaks with an eloquent voice that does not match his hideous appearance.
** Over in the Research Hall of the same DLC, Blood Saint Adeline is a horrible, mutated brain monster that still has a gentle female voice, which does exactly nothing to make the phrase "mushy, murky Brain Fluid" less nauseating.
* Played for laughs in ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddysWorld''. A post-game area contains a minigame called "Foxy Fighters," which has actual voice acting given to the animatronics. (Whereas before, dialogue was simply displayed as text on the screen.) As this is one of the [[StylisticSuck intentionally absurd]] "spinoffs" you're supposed to destroy, most of the voices don't exactly match up. Fredbear, a smiling yellow bear animatronic, sounds like an old man. JJ's voice sounds a bit too mature for an animatronic with a child's appearance, and so on.
-->'''Fredbear:''' Holy crap! Is that my voice?! Voice acting?! NOOOOO! [[Creator/ScottCawthon He's]] [[SelfDeprecation gone too far this time!]]
* ''Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda'':
** Link from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkToThePast'' looks like a teenager in official art, yet his voice in the UsefulNotes/GameBoyAdvance port was reused voice clips of Young Link from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime''. That Link seems several years younger than the Link in ''A Link to the Past''. This kiddie voice was kept in ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkBetweenWorlds'' and the remake of ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaLinksAwakening'' (which use the same Link design).
** In ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask'', [[spoiler:Majora's Wrath, the final form that Majora's Mask takes]], is a hulking and muscular HumanoidAbomination, yet its shrieks are very high-pitched and child-like. It serves to emphasize this monster's PsychopathicManChild nature.
** Yunobo in ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaBreathOfTheWild'' is a young adult Goron with a hulking body and well-toned abs. Gorons are known for the deep and burly voices and grunts. Yunobo sounds like a teenager in the beginning stages of puberty.
*** The same could be said for the English voice of Prince Sidon -- his soft-spoken, polite tone is somewhat appropriate considering the mannerisms and elegance of the [[FishPeople Zora]] in general, but fans have commented on their surprise when this tall, well-built, muscular, badass-looking [[SharkMan shark]] prince with a mouth full of [[ScaryTeeth sharp teeth]] speaks in a respectful, quiet voice, at least in the English dub.
* The SuperDeformed style of ''VideoGame/HarvestMoonMagicalMelody'' causes this with several male characters. They have deep voices despite their cutesy and young looking designs. Dan, however, is an exception as he has a high-pitched voice for his looks.
* Normally, Orendi from ''VideoGame/{{Battleborn}}'' talks and sounds like a screaming laughing little maniacal homicidal gremlin. However, there are times when she talks and sounds like a saner older young woman, a dissonance that doesn't match her appearance but goes in line with her chaotic nature. Basically, she sometimes sounds like the young adult characters [[Creator/AshlyBurch her voice actress]] voices.
* ''VideoGame/DoubleOhSevenFromRussiaWithLove'', a video game adaptation of ''Film/FromRussiaWithLove'', had Creator/SeanConnery himself reprising the role of Film/JamesBond. In the forty years between the film and game, Connery's Scottish brogue had become even thicker, which can be jarring hearing his younger self use.
* ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog'':
** The English dub of ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure'' gave Tikal an adult woman voice that sounds like something you would hear in a computer program with a navigator voice. It was probably chosen because she voices the tutorial sections and hints, which she does as a ball of light, but it sounds ''really'' out of place when [[spoiler:she's in her physical form and you hear the voice coming out of a young girl.]]
** Shadow the Hedgehog is in a body of a teenage hedgehog similar to Sonic's, but his voice sounds deep. {{Justified}}, as he's in fact [[OlderThanTheyLook over 50 years old]] and supposed to have a dark nature.
** Rouge's second English voice actress (done by Caren Manuel) matches her design well. The problem is that [[YoungerThanTheyLook despite her looks]], Rouge is only eighteen at oldest. It's a bit odd hearing the sultry voice of an older woman coming out of a teenagers mouth.
** Creator/RogerCraigSmith's voice for Sonic is controversial mainly because of this reason. Sonic has a deep voice for a fifteen-year-old.
** Espio and Knuckles have mature-sounding voices for teenagers.
* Many dub voices across the ''Franchise/MegaMan'' series:
** ''VideoGame/MegaMan8'' has some of the most infamous examples:
*** The worst case is probably Mega Man himself, who sounds like a little girl.
*** Duo, a huge, bulky, powerful-looking space robot, has an actor whose voice is so soft that it hardly goes above a whisper, to the point that a large portion of his voiced dialogue is drowned out by sound effects or background music.
** ''VideoGame/MegaMan11'':
*** Mega Man again, although not for the same reasons as in ''8''. The English dub averts CrossdressingVoices and gives him the voice of a young teenager a la the ''WesternAnimation/MegaMan'' cartoon series, but at the same time retains his preteen design from the rest of the Classic games.
*** Considering ''Mega Man 8'' gave him a voice more or less appropriate for his design, it can be a little jarring to hear the rotund, square-jawed mechanic Auto open his mouth and speak with a high-pitched, nasally New York twang.
*** Bounce Man is by far the largest Robot Master in the game and a contender for the largest in the series but sounds like an excited 7-year-old. Possibly justified in that he was originally built as the mascot for a kids' indoor activity center.
** In ''VideoGame/MegaManX4'', X himself is a robot built to resemble a young man in his early twenties, but is voiced by the same squeaky-voiced woman as Mega Man in ''Mega Man 8''.
* In ''VideoGame/TheElderScrollsIIIMorrowind'', Yagrum Bagarn, [[spoiler:[[TheLastOfHisKind the last living]] [[OurDwarvesAreDifferent Dwemer]]]] sounds nothing like one would expect. The Dwemer were GeniusBruiser {{Naytheist}}s fond of constructing {{Humongous Mecha}}s and [[ForScience warping the very laws of physics and nature]] in order to [[RagnarokProofing make their creations last]]. The only force in history that seriously challenged them was an army of [[ProudWarriorRace Nords]] led by masters of the [[MakeMeWannaShout Thu'um]], and even then the Dwemer were victorious after [[EnemyMine allying with their rival]] Chimer. Given all of this, it would not be unreasonable for one to expect a BadassBaritone voice. However, Bagarn's voice sounds like a stereotypical {{Nerd}} with a bad case of the sniffles. (This is possibly {{Justified}}, considering that Bagarn is actually suffering from the [[BodyHorror Corprus Disease]] and his voice may well be another example of how badly Corprus can affect its victims.)
* ''Videogame/EtrianOdyssey V: Beyond the Myth'' and ''Etrian Odyssey Nexus'' have no restrictions on portrait[[note]]Each class has two male portraits and two female potraits[[/note]]-voice combinations. As such, it is entirely possible to create an elderly man character with the voice of a young girl, among other silly possibilities.
* In both ''VideoGame/FateExtra CCC'' and ''VideoGame/FateGrandOrder'', Creator/HansChristianAndersen appears to be a ten-year-old boy... but he has the BadassBaritone voice of Creator/TakehitoKoyasu. Explained in-story since he actually is a grown man, but a peculiarity in his summoning as a Servant Caster resulted in him showing up in a child's body instead.
* In ''VideoGame/PrincessMaker 2 Refine'', the "Young Officer" [[spoiler: aka the Prince]] that the Daughter can befriend in January [[spoiler: and marry in the end if they have enough love points]] is supposed to be around the girl's same age (starting the game as a 11 year old), and yet even in the early stages he sounds like an older teen.
* In the ''VideoGame/SaintsRow'' series, starting with the second game, the PlayerCharacter is completely customizable down to the voice, with zero restrictions. You want to make a beefy TopHeavyGuy with a huge BadassBeard and then give him the SpicyLatina voice? You got it.
* ''VideoGame/DeadByDaylight''.
** The Doctor. A ScaryBlackMan easily over 6 feet tall. With [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJ1zTKdQQ_M a shrill and high pitched]] [[GigglingVillain laugh]].
** On the opposite end is [[Film/ANightmareOnElmStreet2010 The Nightmare]]. With a deep and booming laugh to contrast his below average height and appearance.
* ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}'s'' Guardians and Elder Guardians appear to be one-eyed fish-like creatures encased in ancient stone. They make ominous droning sounds that befit their looks when in their natural habitat underwater. ''Outside'' the water, they make cute, high-pitched squeaky noises.
* ''VideoGame/NierAutomata'' has [[spoiler: the Terminals, the BigBad of the game]]. While they initially sound like little girls befitting their appearance, during the VeryDefinitelyFinalDungeon their voices change into old mens' voices.
* ''VideoGame/MrHoppsPlayhouse'': Mr. Hopp, a lanky stuffed rabbit, has a voice befitting that of a big, hulking monster's.
-->'''''"PLAY WITH ME, RUBY!"'''''
* ''VideoGame/FeedTheCat'' has full-grown cats and kittens. The kittens' meows sound exactly the same as the adults'.

[[folder:Music]]
* Mark Knopfler, lead singer/guitarist for Dire Straits [[http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2011/10/7/1318007581341/Mark-KNOPFLER-001.jpg looks like this]], though you might expect him to look like [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAD6Obi7Cag his cigar chomping CGI counterpart]] in Dire Straits's Money For Nothing music video.
* Jimmy Somerville from Bronski Beat and The Communards has an extraordinarily light, high and fluid countertenor/falsetto singing voice. ''Smalltown Boy'' could be sung by a woman. It suggests many looks, none of which is a short muscular bald man.
* Boaz Ma'uda and David D'or, two famous Israeli singers who were in the ''Series/EurovisionSongContest''. One looks like a strength trainer and the other looks like he's in his 40s. Both are tenors, if not countertenors.
* Soul singer Michel'le - sings like Anita Baker, talks like Betty Boop.
* Anita Baker herself: That powerful voice comes from a woman who might be 5 feet tall in heels and 90 pounds soaking wet.
* [[Music/{{Blondie}} Debbie Harry]] looks petite but is one of the best female singers there is, and there's a definite dissonance when she occasionally raps.
* John Hiatt (of "Have A Little Faith In Me" fame), as well. Skeletal, long-haired white guy with a voice that could easily belong to a black soul singer from the ‘60s.
* CountryMusic singer [[http://www.kmonam.com/myphotos/M_JoshTurner630_062012.jpg Josh Turner]]. You'd never guess a face that young would produce a fine bass-baritone.
* Christian musician/puppeteer Marcy Tigner is an adult woman with ''[[UncannyValley creepily]]'' [[UncannyValley convincing]] little girl voice. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Qn5rpNhCbk]]
* And then there's Music/TayZonday, the guy who sings "Chocolate Rain". He looks about 12 years old in that video.
* Listen to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1J-bXfO3DI this cover]] of Music/AskingAlexandria's "Final Episode". The face of the guy in the video looks good as a vocalist, [[SoBadItsGood until you hear his voice]].
* The late Music/AmyWinehouse was a skinny white English woman from the [=00s=], who sounded like a big black American woman from the [=60s=].
* Music/JossStone is a young blonde Brit who sounds just like an African-American crooner.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-1UfAi1OXI Allen Stone]] is a young blonde Pacific Northwesterner who sounds just like a (countertenor) African-American crooner.
* Susan Boyle. She looks like a somewhat old lady but has a beautiful soprano voice.
** In a previous season of ''Series/BritainsGotTalent'', Paul Potts, a dumpy looking guy who worked at a cell phone store, displayed a brilliant operatic tenor voice, nailing the aria [[Theatre/{{Turandot}} "Nessun Dorma"]].
* Aaron Neville had a brief movie appearance as "Man with gun," an intimidating character the hero confronted in a slum area. His singing voice, on the high end of tenor, almost into soprano, has been described as the voice the angels '''wish''' they had.
* [[http://www.caymanilika.net/Music_Demo.html Cayman Ilika]] has a rich mezzo/contralto singing voice that strongly contrasts with her girly looks and [[SingingVoiceDissonance speaking voice]].
* Alison Moyet, once-singer of Music/{{Yazoo}}. With that contralto voice, you'd mistake her for a man if you never had seen her. To the point where Music/{{Erasure}}'s early reviews often remarked snarkily that Vince had simply replaced Alison with another singer who sounded the same. A ''male'' singer who sounded the same. Said male singer? Andrew "Andy" Bell. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZX0VJhrw01w Who sings like this]].
* One word: Music/{{GACKT}}. Many people have mistaken GACKT for a woman on first appearances due to his delicate and ''very'' feminine facial features. So it's quite surprising when [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=DIh4MqvkmOI this]] [[BadassBaritone voice]] comes out of him.
* Scotty [=McCreery=], season 10 winner on ''Series/AmericanIdol''. He [[http://miamiherald.typepad.com/.a/6a00d83451b26169e2014e88d2bf29970d-800wi looks like]] [[Magazine/{{Mad}} Alfred E. Neuman]], but has a surprisingly deep bass-baritone.
* Two words: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaPTDslm0mE&feature=fvst Bianca Ryan]]. She was ''12'' when this song was recorded.
* Music/JackieEvancho was only 10 when she sang "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKhmFSV-XB0 O mio babbino caro]]" with "the voice of an angel." The judges asked her to perform another song to make sure that really was her voice.
* Ray Toro, lead guitarist of Music/MyChemicalRomance, is 6'1'', has super-curly hair that ranges from an afro to long curls reminiscent of [[Music/GunsNRoses Slash]], and has the voice of a ten-year-old. Especially noticeable in songs when he sings a higher harmony, and in this interview [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiNAE8yodT0]] (skip to 2:34).
** The band themselves looked like Emos/Goths in their early days and are "credited" as founding the genre on an aesthetic level (doesn't help that a lot of their music deals with death/violence), but their ''actual'' music sound holds steady at a 5-7 on MohsScaleOfRockAndMetalHardness. Front-man Gerard is well-known for his LargeHam nature, [[CarefulWithThatAxe feral punk screaming,]] and [[MadArtist almost manic]] stage presence.
* ''Series/AmericasGotTalent'' season 6 winner Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. is a black guy with dreads and facial hair who sounds like Music/FrankSinatra.
* Music/{{Rihanna}} has a mild version of this, in that when she sings she has no accent but when she talks she has a noticeable Barbados accent. She sang with the accent when she first became famous, so one imagines [[JustifiedTrope there was some voice training involved]].
* Jens Kästel of Music/FunkerVogt [[http://www.mylot.com/w/image/1208805.aspx looks like a handsome heartthrob]], but has a [[HarshVocals guttural]] [[EvilSoundsDeep bass/baritone]] voice.
* Cristian Machado of Ill Nino looked like he sounded for a while until he physically went from 25 to 40 while his voice remained unchanged.
* Alex Band of Music/TheCalling looks like a teenage pretty boy but sings like a 40-year-old who smokes too much. It was even more pronounced in the band's early days, where he was ''actually'' nineteen.
* Christian Alvestam of Music/ScarSymmetry. He's physically a fat bald guy and has an incredibly heavy Swedish accent. But when he ''sings''...
* Kyo from Music/DirEnGrey. A tiny, Asian pretty boy who is the last person you'd expect to front a heavy metal band. His harsh vocals sum up why he fits this trope.
* Pretty much most rappers have voices that don't complement their physical feature.
** The late Music/TupacShakur was skinny, yet had a loud, powerful voice when he rapped.
** DMX didn't look much muscular when he was first introduced in the late 90s, but he had the voice of an intimidating guard dog, where he derived his trademark barks from.
** Busta Rhymes was as skinny as a twig back in the 90s and early 2000s yet he had a powerful, gruff growl in his vocals.
** Southern rapper Mystikal was average-built, but also had a very wild and raspy voice, especially when he rapped.
** Ja Rule is possibly the most prominent example of them all. While he is around 5'7", he has a deep, gravelly voice exactly like DMX.
** Inverted with his rival 50 Cent, who has a much softer voice despite being bigger in comparison.
* Chino Moreno of Music/{{Deftones}}, especially after his weight gain. One would probably be shocked to know that some of the smoothest, most soothing clean vocals in metal comes from [[http://withfriendship.com/images/j/45412/Chino-Moreno-image.jpg this guy.]]
* Ryan Richards from Music/FuneralForAFriend. He looks and acts like a nice guy, but performs the harsh vocals and drums.
* Music/DaveGrohl shows us time and time again he is the nicest guy in rock and has a relaxed sounding power pop singing voice, yet he equally enjoys [[CarefulWithThatAxe screaming his head off during songs]] (an example being the Music/FooFighters cover of [[Music/{{Prince}} Darling Nikki]]).
* Dani Filth is a tiny effeminate English guy who is very friendly when interviewed, but his vocals as frontman for Music/CradleOfFilth are terrifying. He also has a strong interest in the occult and keeps skeletons in his house just to scare visitors.
* Music/JustinBieber, due to his late puberty, had a childish voice until about age 17. Even now he sings soprano - a very rare thing in an adult male.
* Angela Gossow. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubHOHi9Bzug&list=FLWc9w5qZqfx_4x35RbgqH6Q&index=100&feature=plpp_video That is all.]]
** I'll see your Angela Gossow and raise you [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fs1mWV1krQI Som Pljuimers.]]
* Claudio Sanchez of ''Music/CoheedAndCambria''. Big bear of a man, high tenor singing voice. And then there's the dichotomy between his clean vocals and [[MetalScream his screams]].
* Katie Stelmanis of [[http://www.spinner.com/2011/05/16/austra-feel-it-break/ Austra]]. Petite GirlNextDoor look, big classical opera voice.
* Similarly, hi-NRG diva Abigail Zsiga has the kind of deep powerful voice that you would think shouldn't even be physically ''possible'' from someone who looks so much like a child's stick figure drawing.
* French metal vocalist Guillaume Bideau. His speaking voice is very laid back, somewhat deep, and has a fairly heavy accent. He also looks like [[http://ih1.redbubble.net/image.12771654.4545/flat,550x550,075,f.jpg a tough guy]] who ''should'' sound like [[Music/{{Pantera}} Phil Anselmo]] when he sings. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_YaL5_Rpj0 This]] (skip the intro if you aren't patient) is what his melodic vocals sound like. While he's still a good singer, it's not hard to see why Music/{{Mnemic}} fans accused them of selling out when he joined the band. At least his screams don't contrast as much.
* Jim Nabors will always be associated with drawling Gomer Pyle from ''Series/GomerPyleUSMC'' but had a rich and powerful baritone voice. He released several albums. A lot of comedians made jokes about it back in the 1960s and 70s.
** For many years he provided the vocal part to ''Back Home Again in Indiana'' at the annual race of the [[UsefulNotes/IndyCar Indianapolis 500]].
* [[http://khanhdoan.com/ Khanh Doan]] is a 5'1" pixie who could still [[OlderThanTheyLook pass for a teen at age 36]], yet has a mature mezzo soprano voice.
* Music/{{Queen}}'s [[http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/53515561/Roger+Taylor+59258_Roger_Taylor_I.jpg Roger Taylor]] has blond hair, big blue eyes, and a baby face, but sings in a gravelly, three-packs-a-day voice.
* A lot of male Dominican merengue singers have a singing voice that comes as equally nasal and high pitched, contrasting with their appearances and talking voices. Juan Luis Guerra is one of those: his normal (and quite deep) talking voice suits his bohemian bearded appearance, but he has been doing the nasal singing thing for so long that, unless you had listen him on interviews, you couldn't believe that the both the speech and the singing parts on [[http://youtu.be/b4i7tbqKWp4 "El Niagara en Bicicleta"]] came from the same larynx.
* ''Invoked'' historically in the case of ''castrati'': male singers whose gonads were removed at puberty, ensuring that their boyhood vocal pitch would be retained into adulthood. Such performers were once in demand because they had feminine vocal ranges, but backed up with the powerful projection that only a ''castrato'''s large lungs and elongated chest could generate.
* Music/OzzyOsbourne claims that when he first met his original guitarist Randy Rhoads, Randy had a very low voice that contrasted with his stick-thin, [[DudeLooksLikeALady womanly-looking]] LongHairedPrettyBoy appearance.
* Morten Harket from Music/{{Aha}} was pretty much the living incarnation of a PrettyBoy [[SilverFox and still looks damn fine]]. His vocal range is [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morten_Harket#Vocal_range_and_style shockingly big]], going from quite the depths to a borderline shrill falsetto. The famous chorus of ''[[http://youtu.be/djV11Xbc914 Take on me]]'' is quite the proof.
* Eurobeat vocalist Linda "Irene" Ongarelli has a rather high voice for her buxom physique, and it often gets chipmunked (pitch-shifted) even higher.
** Laura Tartuferi (Laura Vox) is the opposite; slender build, deep soul/jazz voice.
* Julie [=McInnes=], Australian singer, cellist and circus performer, who has starred in many Creator/CirqueDuSoleil shows including ''Amaluna'', has a manly contralto voice despite her small frame and [[OlderThanTheyLook looking somewhat younger than her real age]].
* Peter Spilles of Project Pitchfork, [[http://a1.ec-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/4/5b17bc60983f4675a6c497b222f99744/l.jpg despite his pretty-boy appearance]], has a baritone voice and usually sings HarshVocals.
* Rob Halford of Music/JudasPriest, at least after he shaved his head and grew a dark goatee. Definitely a good example of HardGay.
* Music/BillyJoel. Voice: smooth, streetwise crooning tenor. Appearance: short, unsightly, bulbous-nosed, Jewfro'ed guy. [[http://wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/80450F/kingfm.com/files/2013/04/Billy-Joel-Piano-Man-Album-Cover-flickR-User-epiclectic-630x630.jpg The cover art]] for ''Piano Man'' would call to mind [[VanityPlate the VID mask]] on its own, but with ''his'' mug, it's slightly ''even more'' terrifying.
* Andy Biersack, lead singer of the Black Veil Brides. A young man with a slender build, and a quite impressively deep growling singing voice. It's even more dissonant in the band's earlier songs when he was still a teenager and looked it.
* The late Music/RoyOrbison was a sharp-dressed, pale, dark-haired guy with CoolShades. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyXOUXx9HCE His powerful baritone voice]] was praised and envied by people like ''Music/ElvisPresley'' himself!
* The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82cJgPXU-ik music video]] for Creator/{{Aerosmith}}'s "Sweet Emotion" shows a conversation between a young man and a phone sex operator. At the end, they show what the operator actually looks like!
* Music/{{Madonna}} while she was a superstar in the '80s. It is definitely quite a surprise to see the high-pitched singer as a deep-voiced woman in her mid-twenties. (Of course, that's all changed nowadays...)
* George Ezra: 21 years young milquetoast with the singing voice of a thirty-something black gospel singer. You wouldn't believe it's him singing if you haven't seen it with your own eyes.
* Similarly, there's the Scottish singer Paolo Nutini (aged 27 at the time of writing), who has the hoarse singing voice of an old Italian man.
* Kazumi Evans, who provides the operatic singing voice of Rarity in ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'', [[https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/1711927368/image.jpg looks quite different from what you'd expect]].
* Ella Fitzgerald, having the widest vocal range of any singer to date, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OthWvIBBDhg&feature=kp used this to her advantage regularly.]]
* It still throws off some people when they watch Music/{{NSYNC}}'s a cappella [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXzJqRXLI08 performances]] that [[http://40.media.tumblr.com/504d1e17f898fcebb5bb363328c8da3e/tumblr_mvmglnGP1f1rpn481o1_500.jpg Chris Kirkpatrick]] looks like a biker but sings and speaks like a teenage boy while [[http://41.media.tumblr.com/d81eeca3bd928e7a72f46d14d1bbf62f/tumblr_n2cmzeU6y91rpn481o1_1280.png Lance Bass]] is the opposite, a PrettyBoy with a deep husky voice.
* Italian jazz singer [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4l7y2rY0LE Mario Biondi]] is a skinny, bald white guy with a ''very'' [[BassoProfundo deep]] and soulful singing voice not unlike Music/BarryWhite.
* 2D from the virtual band Music/{{Gorillaz}} has a tall, lean figure and distant black eyes that match his singing voice quite well. While his singing voice is rather low and clear, his speaking voice is a ridiculously heavy cockney accent with a mild case of ElmuhFuddSyndwome. Justified as his singing voice is provided by Blur's Damon Albarn while his speaking voice is provided by a different actor
* Ex-Moldy Peaches singer and solo artist, Adam Green, originally sang in a voice rather close to his speaking voice, which is the kind of voice one would expect out of a skinny stoner. But starting with his second solo album, he began singing in a surprisingly deep baritone that makes his surreal lyrics [[LyricalDissonance sound even more out of place.]]
* Michael Barnes of the Christian metal/modern rock band Music/{{Red}} is a somewhat stocky bald man with a tired face and a scruffy beard. Which makes his blood-curdling screams and young-sounding low tenor singing voice sound perplexing to those who haven't seen the band in photos. Compare [[http://images.soundspike.com/gallery_photos/2011/9/RED_Epicenter_AH/red_092411_4.jpg what he looks like]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4y3xPe6iVU to what he sounds like.]] Believe it or not, his speaking voice, which is even higher, fits him ''even less''.
* Yulia Volkova, former vocalist for t.A.T.u. now sounds she's been smoking 20+ years thanks to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpGDXrji7Fc improper treatment from ex-manager Ivan Shapovalov.]] By the time of her appearance on MTV in 2003, her voice was so completely hoarse and dry her screaming parts in "Not Gonna Get Us" had to be on playback. [[TheDeterminator She still tried to sing other parts of the performance.]] In 2012, Yulia was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and almost lost her voice completely. She had to undergo three surgeries to get better, and now sounds completely different.
* [[HeavyMetal Extreme Metal]] and {{Metalcore}} vocalists are often quite young (and, surprisingly often, {{Bishonen}}), but perform [[GutturalGrowler guttural growls]], [[CarefulWithThatAxe strangulated screams]] [[SopranoAndGravel or both]]. See also: the inversion of ScaryMusicianHarmlessMusic.
* Claire [[https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjZtz20J-PPeD_5XstRjUEw/featured "Clairity"]] Wilkinson, despite her nerdish appearance, has a suprisingly deep yet airy alto voice reminiscent of Music/{{Sia}}.
* CountryMusic singer [[http://cps-static.rovicorp.com/3/JPG_400/MI0000/064/MI0000064542.jpg?partner=allrovi.com Wade Hayes]] had a surprisingly boyish appearance for someone with a deep baritone voice.
* The late Music/JoeCocker sang in a raspy baritone since his youth, when he easily sounded like a man two decades older. And despite his LargeHam tendencies as a singer, he was mostly soft-spoken in interviews, also sounding higher-pitched than what one would expect.
* Similarly, Music/BadCompany and Free vocalist Paul Rodgers speaks in a slightly high-pitched, soft voice, a contrast to his bluesy baritone on songs like "Can't Get Enough of Your Love" and "All Right Now".
* Music/MeghanTrainor, a blue-eyed auburn-redhead and former DyeHard blonde, sounds quite convincingly like a late '90s black contemporary R&B diva.
* Kristine Weitz could easily be mistaken for a heavy-set SassyBlackWoman by those who haven't [[http://www.tailsinc.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/KristineW1-300x200.jpg seen her face]].
* This is a gimmick of the British indie-rock/blues band Gomez - one of their singers, Ben Ottewell, has a gravelly blues voice that sounds like it ought to be coming out of an elderly African-American man instead of a geeky-looking white student type.
* [[https://i.ytimg.com/vi/FjtLhdgObQQ/maxresdefault.jpg Dino Jelusic]], singer of hard rock band Animal Drive, is a PrettyBoy who looks like he'd have a clean tenor voice. So it may be surprising to hear him sing very much like [[Music/{{Whitesnake}} David Coverdale]].
* [[Music/{{iamamiwhoami}} Jonna Lee]] has an unexpectedly angelic [[https://youtu.be/Mvducmcztx0 singing voice]] in spite of [[YoungerThanTheyLook her haggard appearance for her age]].
* Dutchman [[https://youtu.be/asfwADW1xL4 Gerard Joling]], at least in his prime, has an almost implausibly effeminate countertenor voice for his manly-man looks. Unlike the aforementioned Jimmy Somerville, he does not use falsetto.
* The rapper ''utaite'' nqrse is well known for his deep, crass rapping voice, but he often uses a cute girl for his avatar. It's not a complete exaggeration; his real self is quite the [[{{Bishounen}} pretty boy]] in real life.
* According to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwnnSSs0kFA the VH1 pop-up video]], a number of critics thought Music/RickAstley was a front for a black singer. In fact, this happened when he sent his first tapes to music executives — he had to sing on-stage to convince them that yes, the deep baritone voice belonged to ''him''.
* Mary Isabel Catherine Bernardette O'Brien aka [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dusty_Springfield Dusty Springfield]] was known as the "White Queen of Soul" because her soulful voice contrasted so much with her blonde hair and blue eyes.
* Music/JossStone, another Brit, has similar qualities to Dusty, though considerably taller.

* VocalDissonance/LiveActionTV

[[folder:Live-Action TV]]
* ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'':
** Jonathan crooning a forties pop song in the Season 4 episode "Superstar". Pro athlete, military genius, star of ''The Matrix'', and ''now'' he's Sinatra.
** Drusilla dresses like a {{Goth}} singer, acts like a SerialKiller and talks with an extremely soft voice.
* ''Series/{{Seinfeld}}'' had an episode featuring one of Elaine's friends dating a "high talker", a man with a high-pitched voice that made him sound like a woman (in what was a pretty blatant overdubbing job). In fact, he sounds almost exactly like Elaine's friend. This led to Elaine accidentally causing the two to break up when Jerry claims her friend was flirting with him. She calls her friend to confirm whether or not it was true, not realizing the high talker was the one who answered, who now has the idea in his head that his girlfriend might be unfaithful.
* A horrifying example (to those involved anyway) occurs in ''Series/MarriedWithChildren.'' The men get hooked on a new phone sex line, only for them to eventually discover the woman behind "Butter's" sexy voice is Peggy's big and far-from-beautiful mother.
* Once you look into his background, Crowley from ''Supernatural'' becomes an example. A demon formed from the soul of a Scotsman[[note]]His birth name was Fergus Roderick [=McLeod=][[/note]], inhabiting the body of an American[[note]]As he once said to Bobby, "in the flesh of a moderately-successful literary agent out of New York".[[/note]] who, thanks to being played by Mark Sheppard, has a London accent.
* ''Series/TheElectricCompany1971'' had a song about "Hircus of the Circus," an enormous strongman with a high-pitched voice.
* Franchise/TheMuppets:
** You ''definitely'' wouldn't expect ''Series/SesameStreet''[='=]s Elmo to be voiced by [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IY_sl1R3KJQ some burly-looking black man.]]
** Jerry Nelson would also fit this with his gruff look, BadassBeard and ''unusually'' large [[ManOfAThousandVoices vocal range]]. Nelson was actually the first voice of Elmo (before Clash became his performer) and gave the cute little red Muppet [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=57&v=zX6PqgJDI-U a deep, gravelly voice]].
** Franchise/TheMuppets have been known to do this with a few of their actual characters as well. On ''Series/FraggleRock'', for example, Brool the Minstrel is a furry, hulking, fanged cave monster with a jarringly sweet, soulful voice.
* In ''Series/DoctorWho'' episode "The Eleventh Hour", this is played for drama and used to throw a shapeshifting alien straight into the UncannyValley. The first instance involves it shifting to look like a man holding a dog on a leash...only for the man to bark with the dog's voice. Later, [[spoiler:what looks like a woman and her two daughters is discovered to be the alien when it uses the wrong mouth for the woman's voice, resulting in a very small girl speaking with an adult woman's voice, while the "mother"'s mouth remains closed.]]
* A frequent gag on ''Series/TheBennyHillShow'' was to have male vocalists singing in high female registers, and vice versa.
* ''Series/KnightRider'': KARR in the Hungarian dub, due to the robotic echo effect layered over the voice actor's performance, has such a high-pitched voice, he almost sounds feminine. A more accurate description would be to say he's an [[Franchise/StarWars Ewok]] disguised as a car. It does a great job of undermining his malevolent aura.
* Scorpius of ''Series/{{Farscape}}'' is rather freaky looking, which makes his smooth and urbane voice a surprise. He also fits it on another level, in that the soft-spoken voice is a conscious effort, and when really angry, Scorpius loses control, and in keeping with his Scarran ancestry, talks in a [[EvilSoundsDeep deep]] GutturalGrowler voice. This is also a contrast with his weak-looking body (as is the SuperStrength he also generally keeps repressed).
* ''Franchise/PowerRangers'' and ''Franchise/SuperSentai'' have a situation similar to ''Franchise/{{Digimon}}.'' (Makes sense, with the same sets of ThePowersThatBe -- TOEI making the original, Saban adapting it.) In the American version, the MonsterOfTheWeek, as well as major villains, will sound growly or squeaky or otherwise be not-normal-human-y to better sound like they look. When watching the Japanese version, where this is often not so, it's strange when a beast of destruction or a cheesy rubber suit talks in a voice that could belong to any guy on the street -- especially if it's a bad guy you ''know'' and remember sounding the part.
* In ''Series/HikoninSentaiAkibaranger'', [[CosplayOtakuGirl Yumeria]], who is introduced speaking with a high, cutesy voice, switches to a deep, gravelly one when her [[AnimalEaredHeadband cat ear headband]] falls off.
* The Creator/StephenJCannell series ''Sonny Spoon'' had an episode called "Who's Got Tonsillitis?" about a missing soul singer called Tonsillitis Brown who was so called because of how his real singing voice sounded like; he mimed to the voice of another singer. A pudgy white guy.
* An episode of ''Veritas: The Quest'' has neo-Nazi villain [[MultiethnicName Heinrich Cordova]], who looks like a prototypical Aryan Ubermensch yet speaks with a Latino accent. The first words spoken to him in said episode are "You know Heinrich, I can never get used to ''that'' accent coming out of ''that'' face." [[RealityisUnrealistic Strange as it may seem]], many German and Austrian immigrants came to South America in the early 20th century, and so there are many people in Argentina, Southern Brazil, Uruguay and to a lesser extent Paraguay and Venezuela with [[MultiethnicName Spanish or Portuguese first names but Teutonic surnames]]. In fact, there are places like Colonia Tóvar and Treze Tílias which look exactly like [[YodelLand a stereotypical Alpine village]] and the German language is still spoken.
* Invoked in an episode of ''Series/{{Frasier}}''. Frasier and a lot of the KACL employees put on an old-time radio murder mystery to celebrate the station's anniversary and Roz was supposed to play a character with a very sexy voice. Unfortunately, she had to have an emergency dental procedure which left her mouth still numb from the Novocaine. Frasier spends a few moments building up her characters sultry, exotic accent, and she speaks in a mumbling, slurring mess.
* Very common on ''Series/RuPaulsDragRace'', where all the contestants, naturally, are {{Drag Queen}}s, but in some cases, a queen may look entirely convincing as a woman until they speak, at which point this trope comes into effect. Rebecca Glasscock and Tyra Sanchez are two such queens who are extremely good at presenting as female but possess contrabass voices that can be startling the first time you hear them.
* In several Clutch Cargo segments on ''Series/LateNight with Creator/ConanOBrien'', Martha Stewart and Barbara Bush had blatant male voices.
* ''Series/{{Justified}}'' has Jimmy Tolan (Jesse Luken), a short, babyfaced man with a [[EvilSoundsDeep deep, imposing baritone]].
* This was a big part of Ms. Brahms' character on ''Series/AreYouBeingServed'' -- she is a beautiful young woman working in an up-market department store but speaks like a working-class Cockney. One episode revolves around this -- Ms. Brahms is chosen as a spokesmodel for the store, but they have the voice of Mr. Grace's nurse dubbed over this because her voice is more up-market. A British Lord is attracted to her and wants to meet for a date, based largely on her sexy voice. In the end, he immediately goes to the nurse, even though she looks nothing like the woman in the ad.
* Kurt Hummel from ''Series/{{Glee}}'' has an unnaturally high-pitched voice, especially in the first season. He's often mocked or bullied for it, as was his real-life actor.
* In the 3rd season premiere of ''Series/MrRobot'' one of the hackers Elliott encounters is a dwarf with a bit of a deep voice.
* ''Film/LiveForeverAsYouAreNowWithAlanResnick'': All of the clones have a digitized-Alan Resnick voice. Fine for Alan's clone, Teddy. Not so fine for the clones of old women or young boys.
* Due to the nature of ''Series/TheMaskedSinger'', sometimes the voices will clash with the costumes.
** The Leopard on the American version has a deep, masculine voice, yet wears an Elizabethan-style PimpedOutDress.
** On the German version the judges were shocked when they heard the beautiful Angel start singing in a harsh death growl.
** Conversely, the Dragon on [[Series/TheMaskedSingerAustralia the Australian version]] sings in a soft, high-pitched tone.
* Played for laughs in the GagDub sketch ''Series/TheOldenDays'' from ''Series/TheLateShow1992''. When Governor Funbags compliments everyone at the table on their superbly dubbed voices, Caroline replies "Thank you Governor" in Judge Muttonchops' voice. Funbags continues, "With one or two exceptions."

Nunzio, from the opening cartoon short: Baby Herman sounds like a real baby, but ''Literature/MythAdventures'' series is known to have this issue, often including it in his initial descriptions when the cartoon ends and the movie cuts to the "real" world, we find out he makes his first appearance in a book.
* The radio soap actors in ''Literature/AuntJuliaAndTheScriptwriter'' are described as quite unattractive with very wonderful voices. The author even says explicitly
that Herman's real many men would get BlueWithShock if they realized that the very sweet, silky voice is rough of the soap heroines comes from an old, fat, badly dressed and gravelly.

** Harry has this reaction the first time he hears Dolores Umbridge speak in ''Literature/HarryPotterAndTheOrderOfThePhoenix''. She speaks with a high, girlish voice, whereas due to her froglike face, Harry had expected a croak.
* In ''Literature/ThePaleKing'', Nugent's little sister can imitate [[Film/TheExorcist Regan MacNeil's]] voice perfectly, much to the delight of Nugent's bored coworkers.
* In ''Literature/{{Maledicte}}'', Maledicte is a slight, pretty [[SweetPollyOliver young man]] with an incredibly harsh, rasping voice. {{Justified}} in that he purposefully took poison to damage his voice.
* During the [[spoiler: final confrontation with [[BigBad Victoria]]]] in ''[[Literature/{{Twilight}} Twilight: Eclipse]]'', Bella is shocked to see that the [[SuperPersistentPredator obsessed vampire's]] voice is less of a menacing growl and more of a high and childish squeal.
* Near the beginning of "Literature/TheBrainStealersOfMars", Rod Blake meets [[{{Shapeshifting}} something]] on the surface of Mars that looks like his partner Ted Penton--but it's new to imitating humans, and when it first speaks, it speaks in Rod Blake's voice.
* Owen Meany from John Irving's ''Literature/APrayerForOwenMeany''. A dwarf, he's by far the smallest kid in his class...and he has NoIndoorVoice.
* Shadowslinger, an elderly, morbidly-obese sorceress from the ''Literature/GarrettPI'' novels, has a voice that sounds like she's eight years old. As this conflicts with her self-promoted image as a terrifying wielder of dark magic, she usually has her son Barate Algarda speak for her.
* Applies to several characters in the ''Literature/HonorHarrington'' series. The titular character is a 6'5" HeavyWorlder LadyOfWar, who has a soprano voice. Thandi Palane is a genetically modified AmazonianBeauty who can literally punch a guy's face in, and a mezzo-soprano (one step down from soprano). The MemeticBadass (both in-verse and out) Victor Catchat is a tenor (highest male voice within the modal register).
* [[BigBad Link]] in the ''Literature/BelisariusSeries'' has this. It is an AI from millions of years in the future that uses specific women as host bodies, transferring to the next body whenever one dies. As a result, the age of its host bodies over the story ranges from seventy to eight, and while it ''can'' use its host's normal voice, it usually uses a vaguely described but utterly inhuman and emotionless voice that most people find highly unsettling.
* In ''Literature/TheAndromedaStrain'', the secret research installation plays pre-recorded messages spoken by a female voice described as "luscious". Dr. Hall is bemused to learn that this voice belongs to a 60-year-old woman.
* In ''Literature/TheFirstLaw'' series, Bremer dan Gorst is a bull of a man and a LightningBruiser to boot, but he's got the piping voice of a child, to his eternal shame.
* Played with in ''Literature/TheBuilders'' by Daniel Polansky. [[EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep The Captain]] is a grizzled, stoic military commander who has a [[FacialHorror unnervingly scarred]] face and a deserved terrible reputation. However, he has a squeaky voice described as a falsetto. On the other hand, every character in the work is an IntellectualAnimal and the Captain is a mouse- and so his voice is actually quite fitting for his species (he sounds like Micky Mouse in the audiobook); it's just that it is greatly at odds with his personality.
* In ''Literature/EvaLuna'', Eva's CoolBigSis Mimi is a beautiful woman with a very deep voice. [[spoiler: She is [[{{Transgender}} the re-invented and finally able to transition Melecio]]; she manages to find a medium of sorts, voice-wise, and "reserves" her deepest pitch [[BewareTheNiceOnes for when she needs to make a point]].]]
* ''Literature/DrGretaHelsing'': {{Mumm|y}}ies tend to pick up the regional accent from wherever they were awoken from slumber, leaving Greta a bit nonplussed to hear ancient Egyptian undead speaking with British- or German-accented voices.
* Dire wolves in ''Literature/WolvesOfTheBeyond'' have whispering voices despite their huge sizes.

[[folder:Films -- Live-Action]]
* Creator/MarilynMonroe didn't invent the gimmick of TheVamp having a childish voice, but she certainly [[TropeCodifier popularized it]]. Six decades later, the stock character of the blonde with a "breathy little-girl voice" has actually [[SeinfeldIsUnfunny become a bit of a cliché]].
* ''Film/SinginInTheRain'' uses this as a main plot point, since none of the audience expects the beautiful silent film actress to have such a "razorblades on piano wire" voice.
* ''Film/SuburbanCommando'' has two badass bounty hunters from space (one of whom is played by [[Wrestling/TheUndertaker Mark Callaway]]) who [[TheVoiceless never talk.]] During their fight with Shep, it's revealed that this is because they sound like they're on helium. The Italian dub of that movie goes for a different gag and has the bounty hunters' voices sound [[LarynxDissonance goofy and screechy like those of men trying to speak like women]].
--> '''Shep''': "No wonder you guys never talk!"
* ''Film/PeeWeesBigAdventure'':
** Pee-wee asks directions from some actors wandering around a movie backlot. The stormtrooper guy has a high-pitched and squeaky voice, while the showgirl has a deep, masculine voice.
** Pee-wee's familiar high-pitched voice has been dubbed with an incredibly deep voice in the film within a film.
* ''Film/KingRalph'' has Princess Anne of Finland, who is played by Joely Richardson, but voiced by a man, much to the irritation of King Ralph.
* Sri Sumbaji, the Indian Pirate Lord in ''Film/PiratesOfTheCaribbeanAtWorldsEnd'' [[TheQuietOne is silent]] for most of the discussion, with his aides speaking on his behalf. This becomes apparent when he finally talks: he has a high-pitched, squeaky voice.
* In a DeletedScene from ''Film/Terminator3RiseOfTheMachines'', Creator/ArnoldSchwarzenegger, playing an army sergeant voiced by Creator/SamuelLJackson doing a thick Southern accent, narrates a promotional video for [=SkyNet=]'s new line of battle robots. One of the execs says he doesn't like the voice, so another exec, played by Jack Noseworthy ''with Arnold's voice'', says, "We can fix it."
* Franchise/{{Godzilla}}. Yeah, a {{Kaiju}} big enough to tear down all of Japan has a cry like an air raid siren on helium...
* ''Film/WaynesWorld 2'': Wayne and Garth enjoy listening to a radio show hosted by the suave Handsome Dan, who they imagine as a cool babe-magnet of a man. When they get to the studio, they assume that the handsome [[http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0569337/ Ted McGinley]] is Handsome Dan, but he's actually just "Mr. Scream," who does nothing but scream on the show. The real Handsome Dan is played by [[http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0790434/ Harry Shearer]].
* ''Film/AmericanGraffiti'': Everyone believes that real-life DJ Wolfman Jack to be a risqué black man, but he turns out to be an unassuming white guy named Robert Smith.
* ''Film/AMightyWind'': Harry Shearer's character plays the bass (both the bass fiddle and the vocal bass) in The Folksmen. However, in the end, he decides he'd be happier as a woman, and they're shown doing their signature song "Old Joe's Place" with him in a dress. When it comes time for his solo, he goes ahead and does it in his signature bass style, then does a girlish laugh and flirtatious hand wave gesture.
* In ''Film/MuppetTreasureIsland'' captain Smollett does a roll call of his new crew, ending with a pirate "Big Fat Ugly Bug-Faced Baby-Eating O'Brien". What he gets is a beautiful [[OfCorsetsSexy corset-clad lady]] who croaks a deep, manly [[FanDisservice "Aye"]]. Cue {{Beat}} with JawDrop from the cast.
* In the Adam Sandler movie ''Film/GrownUps'', his character's wife and the wives of his friends start flirting with a tall handsome muscular man, only when he starts talking to them he speaks in a high squeaky voice.
* A running gag in ''Film/TheAdventureOfSherlockHolmesSmarterBrother'' has what sounds like a woman knocking on the door to Sigerson's office and calling him, and when he tells "her" to come in, it turns out to be his manservant Hunkston.
* Froggie in ''Film/TheLittleRascals'' shorts is a kid with a deep voice (thus the nickname).
* In the 1967 ''Film/DoctorDolittle'' movie, the heroes arrive on Sea-Star Island and are greeted by the stereotypical grass-skirt-wearing, bone-through-the-nose style "natives" ... who speak in perfect BBC English accents.
* In the obscure 1987 comedy-adventure ''Jane and the Lost City'' (based on the notorious ''Jane'' comic strip of the UsefulNotes/WorldWarII era), the main characters are in Africa and encounter the queen of a jungle tribe who at first doesn't say anything. When she ''does'' start speaking, she turns out to have an "educated" British accent.
* The 1933 political thriller ''Film/GabrielOverTheWhiteHouse'' has as one of its minor villains a gangster named Nick Diamond, who fancies himself an Al Capone-style "tough guy." So it's pretty surprising when we hear him speak and learn that he still has some unidentifiable Southern/Eastern European accent from his native country. Another character subtly [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] this, noting how far Diamond has traveled from his roots. (TruthInTelevision, as quite a few Prohibition-era gangsters were European-born.)
* Played with in ''Film/PoliceAcademy'', when the timid, tiny-voiced female police recruit lets loose with an uncharacteristic bellow of "''Don't move, dirtbag!''" when she actually makes an arrest.
* ''Film/AustinPowers'':
** ''Film/AustinPowersTheSpyWhoShaggedMe'' has Mini Me sporting a bass singing voice.
** Subverted in ''Film/AustinPowersInGoldmember'', when a man (none other than Creator/NathanLane) at Studio 69 appears to address Austin in a sexy black woman's voice. Then it's revealed that an ''actual'' sexy female African-American spy is sitting directly behind the man, using him like a ventriloquist's dummy to deflect attention from their conversation.
* ''Film/{{Spaceballs}}''
** When Lone Star and Barf are looking for Vespa; they hear a ''very'' deep voice singing "Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Been Through"... and it's coming from her. "Whaddya know -- she's a bass."
** When Dark Helmet has his faceplate down, he has a deep, booming voice. When it's up, he looks and sounds like Creator/RickMoranis.
* ''Film/CatsAndDogs'' has ''The Russian'', a little [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_blue Russian Blue]] kitten that [[CuteKitten spends the first few minutes being absolutely adorable.]] Then the owner walks away and it [[TalkingAnimal begins to speak]] with a thick Russian accent. The next few minutes play like a ''Franchise/JamesBond'' movie.
* Bernard, the bull, from ''Film/WhereTheWildThingsAre'', is one of the largest, most intimidating, and by far the most reserved Wild Thing on the island, to the point of never speaking at all. Everyone else avoids interacting with him as much as possible. When he finally ''talks'' (and speaks the only two lines he has in the whole movie), he sounds like a timid, soft-spoken young boy.
* The movie ''Film/PitchPerfect'' actually uses this as a plot point. After Chloe [[spoiler: has her vocal nodules removed]], she can no longer sing above a G sharp, which drastically limits her solos as a soprano. However, after Aubry and Becca make amends, and all the girls go in for their hands-in battle cry, they discover that with her "[[spoiler:messed up vocal cords]]", Chloe is capable of singing bass. This revelation, in conjunction with Becca's coordination of the group, earns them the championship win. Bear in mind, this is Brittany Snow that the jarringly deep, masculine singing voice is supposed to be coming out of. This is also a BrickJoke in hindsight because, at the beginning of the movie, the male commentator for the competition makes the misogynistic comment that because all-girl a capella groups don't have bass singers, they can't reasonably compete with all-boy or mixed-gender groups because their harmony will never be well-rounded enough without a bass.
* The main character in ''Cannibal'' is TheBear. The few times he speaks, it's with an oddly girly voice.
* In ''Film/StirCrazy'' the intimidating mountain of a prisoner everyone craps their pants at the mere sight of turns out to be a singer with a high tenor voice. This was TruthInTelevision, as the actor, Erland Van Lidth De Jeude, was a heavyweight Olympic wrestler and opera singer.
* A brief gag in ''Film/SpyHard'' has a security guard played by Verne Troyer and voiced by Brad Garrett. (His voice and shadow are depicted before we see him in the flesh.)
* In ''Film/HoubaOnTheTrailOfTheMarsupilami'', Bolo (a.k.a. Little Voice) is a giant of a man with a ridiculously high-pitched voice. He's played by [[TheGiant The Great Khali]] if you wonder. When the protagonist first hears it, he thinks it's coming from a nearby dwarf, which he insults... and then Bolo emerges from the shadow, ticked off.
* Korg in ''Film/ThorRagnarok'' is a huge being made of rocks. He has a deep gruff gravely voice, right? Nope! He has a high-pitched and soft voice with a very unassuming Kiwi accent. This was inspired by Taika Waititi's experience with hulking but soft-voiced Maori bar bouncers in New Zealand.
* In ''Film/AvengersEndgame'' [[spoiler:Bruce Banner and the Hulk have undergone a SplitPersonalityMerge and the resultant persona, Professor Hulk, retains Banner's gentle voice, which contrasts greatly with the Hulk's massive frame.]]
* In the choir rehearsal scene in ''Film/TheBlueLamp'', a tall, fat, balding copper turns out to have a (very pleasant-sounding) high-pitched counter-tenor voice.
* The eponymous character in ''Film/PokemonDetectivePikachu'', like in the game it's an adaptation of, has an adult male voice courtesy of Creator/RyanReynolds, although his PokemonSpeak is provided by Creator/IkueOhtani as always. [[spoiler:This is a result of Mewtwo merging Harry Goodman's soul into his partner Pikachu's body to save his life after a car crash.]]

* Franchise/DisneyAnimatedCanon:
** Scamp from ''WesternAnimation/LadyAndTheTrampIIScampsAdventure'' is a young looking puppy who sounds more like a 15- or 16-year-old. His sisters sound noticeably more appropriate than him. Angel also has a deep voice for her looks.
** ''WesternAnimation/ChickenLittle'':
*** Chicken Little looks like he should sound like a little kid, so it's a bit jarring to hear him with the voice of Creator/ZachBraff.
*** Likewise with Abby Mallard; she appears to be much younger than 13, though her voice sounds a little older than that (probably around the late teens.)
** In ''WesternAnimation/ThePrincessAndTheFrog'', the hyperactive Charlotte has a mostly squeaky voice that drops when whenever she gets too excited or is trying to be seductive. The French Canadian dub version of her, however, has probably been ''eating'' cigarettes her entire life.
** Sgt. Calhoun from ''WesternAnimation/WreckItRalph'' appears to be a beautiful young woman somewhere in her 20's or 30's but she has the gruff voice of Jane Lynch. Additionally, the Sugar Rush racers sound like teenagers instead of kids.
** Finnick from ''WesternAnimation/{{Zootopia}}'' is a cute, little fennec fox... with the voice of Tommy 'Tiny' Lister, a man known for playing scary thugs and brutes, like Deebo from ''Film/{{Friday}}''.
** The original 1953 Danish dub of ''WesternAnimation/PeterPan'' has John voiced by a man, unlike the English original (and the 2003 Danish re-dub) which has him voiced by a child actor.
** Most of the Lost Boys were voiced by children, however Cubby the one in the bear costume due to being voiced by a man in his 20's sounds more like a teenager.
** In the original 1962 Hungarian dub of ''{{WesternAnimation/Pinocchio}}'', Jiminy Cricket's voice is much deeper compared to the original version.
** In ''WesternAnimation/{{Bolt}}'', Penny's voice sounds too old for her design. This is because Miley Cyrus wasn't her original voice -- it was Chloe Moretz before Disney decided to re-record the lines.
** In ''WesternAnimation/SnowWhiteAndTheSevenDwarfs'' Dopey who looks and acts like a child lets out a grown man's scream when he sees Snow White under the covers of the Dwarfs beds.
* Creator/{{Pixar}}:
** In ''WesternAnimation/FindingNemo'', during the montage of Marlin's story being passed along, one scene shows a small fish telling the story to a larger fish. The small fish has a deep, booming voice, while the big fish has a high, squeaky voice. And the squeaky big fish's phrase is: "[[WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse Golly, that's amazing!]]"
** Alpha the Doberman in ''WesternAnimation/{{Up}}'' has a high-pitched voice because his voice collar is malfunctioning. When the collar is fixed later, Alpha has a voice much more appropriate to his appearance, causing Russell to comment he liked the old voice better. [[spoiler:In the climax, Dug inadvertently causes it to break again.]]
** In ''WesternAnimation/InsideOut'', the mind worker/actor who does Riley's voice in the Dream Productions studio is stocky and bearded, yet speaks his lines in a perfect little girl's voice.
* Creator/DreamWorksAnimation:
** Tai Lung of ''WesternAnimation/KungFuPanda'' is a ripped anthro snow leopard who has just finished tearing apart a prison... and then speaks in a smooth British accent, courtesy of Creator/IanMcShane.
** In ''WesternAnimation/RiseOfTheGuardians'', Creator/ChrisPine (age 32) voices Jack Frost (who appears to be about 14) with his normal voice. This comes as quite the shock but is actually an indicator that Jack is ''far'' older than he looks.
** In ''WesternAnimation/HowToTrainYourDragon2'', Jay Baruchel's voice is very distracting when it's coming out of the older Hiccup.
** In ''WesternAnimation/PenguinsOfMadagascar'', when Skipper, Kowalski, and Rico are shown as chicks they sound the same as their adult selves.
** In ''WesternAnimation/PussInBoots'', during Puss' childhood flashback, he didn't really talk. But once he did, he sounded the same as he did when he's an adult. He was only a kitten by the way.
** In ''WesternAnimation/CaptainUnderpantsTheFirstEpicMovie'', George and Harold are voiced by Kevin Hart and Thomas Middleditch, despite being ten-year-olds. The [[WesternAnimation/TheEpicTalesOfCaptainUnderpants Netflix spin-off series]] averts this by having them being voiced by actual kids.
* Mei from the ''Literature/ArashiNoYoruNi'' movie has the type of deep voice you'd expect for an adult male. He's a cute, androgynous little goat who wears a pink scarf so his voice can be a bit jarring.
* In ''WesternAnimation/BatmanGothamKnight'' in the segment "Field Test", Kevin Conroy's deep voice doesn't really fit this Bruce Wayne's [[PrettyBoy effeminate appearance]].
* One of the gags in ''WesternAnimation/BebesKids'' is that the baby is voiced by Tone Loc. [[DontExplainTheJoke He's famous for his deeeeeeep voice.]]
* In the animated version of ''WesternAnimation/TheCatInTheHat'', one of the Cat's little helpers Thing One had the deep bass voice of Creator/ThurlRavenscroft, probably best known for voicing Tony the Tiger in Frosted Flakes commercials.
* In "Jay and Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie" we have the villain Cocknocker a chubby man in a blue costume with "AnimeHair" who sounds like Bubbles from ''WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls'', lampshaded by ''Creator/KevinSmith'' who says he hired ''Creator/TaraStrong'' to voice him to subvert viewers who expected to hear ''Creator/MarkHamill'' who played him in ''Film/JayAndSilentBobStrikeBack'', and to please the brony fanbase.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheLorax'' has a main character who is twelve years old, but voiced by Creator/ZacEfron, who makes him sound like he's at least in his mid-twenties.
* In Creator/ChuckJones' ''WesternAnimation/ThePhantomTollbooth'' TheRuntAtTheEnd of King Azaz's royal palace guards has the deepest voice.
* ''WesternAnimation/ThePolarExpress'' features mostly children as characters, and most of them sound like kids... Except for the Know-It-All kid, who is voiced by a grown man (Creator/EddieDeezen, to be precise) and sounds ''nothing'' like a young child.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheRapsittieStreetKidsBelieveInSanta'':
** The characters are supposed to be around 10 years old but sound like teenagers or adults. It also doesn't help that most of them look like teenagers rather than kids!
** Inverted with Nancy Cartwright's character. She uses her Nelson voice for the role but the problem is, he looks like he's 14 so hearing that voice out of that character comes off as weird!
** Averted with Grey Delisle, who actually does a convincing little girl voice while playing a little girl.
* Some of the Smurfs (Greedy, Lazy, Grouchy, and Hefty) in the UK English dub of ''WesternAnimation/TheSmurfsAndTheMagicFlute'' had extremely deep voices (with Lazy's being the deepest). For the US dub, their voices are a bit higher, but still pretty deep (with the exception of Greedy's). Averted with Grouchy in the Greek dub, in which he has a WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse-like voice.
* The joke was in the original cut of ''WesternAnimation/TheThiefAndTheCobbler'' that one did not expect the small, scrawny, shy Tack to have such a deep voice (provided by Creator/SeanConnery for one line at the end); however, the voices given to him by Creator/MatthewBroderick and Steve Lively match his appearance in the {{bowdlerise}}d versions.
* In ''WesternAnimation/TheAmazingFeatsOfYoungHercules'', Falina (as seen in her human form) looks to be a young girl in her late teens or twenties... but her voice is very scratchy and sounds more like that of a middle-aged woman who smokes heavily.
* ''WesternAnimation/TomAndJerry'':
** During the BigLippedAlligatorMoment from ''WesternAnimation/TomAndJerryTheMovie'', the smallest alley cat that pesters the titular cat-and-mouse duo actually speaks in a low, gruff voice; while the largest alley cat actually speaks in a high, squeaky voice. This is apparently more obvious in the French-Canadian dub in which the large alley cat is actually voiced by [[CrossDressingVoices a woman]].
** One of the racers in ''Tom and Jerry: The Fast and the Furry'' is Gorthan, Destroyer of Light, a TinTyrant with Creator/TomKenny's high voice.
* The main character Hayden from ''WesternAnimation/TrollLand'' is a 12- or 13-year-old boy voiced by then 42-year-old Jerry O'Connell who sounds more like a man in his twenties because of this.
* ''WesternAnimation/YellowSubmarine'': As the sub ventures through the Sea of Time, the Beatles regress to childhood and Old Fred to young adulthood. The Beatles' voices (Paul Angelis, Geoffrey Hughes, John Clive) as children are still the same as their adult voices, and Old Fred's (Lance Percival) didn't change either.

* Creator/DreamWorksAnimation:
* ''WesternAnimation/TheRapsittieStreetKidsBelieveInSanta'':
* ''WesternAnimation/TomAndJerry'':
