This trope occurs when two characters, usually with a healthy dose of {{UST}} between them, are forced into a situation where they are alone with each other, away from prying eyes and the infamous {{Moment Killer}}, for an extended period of time. During this time, these two characters are allowed to interact with each other freely, without any unpleasant interruptions.

This usually results in the characters getting to know each other better, and either developing feelings for one another, or having those feelings strengthened (and perhaps even acted upon) if they existed previously. This usually happens later in a series, but it can happen earlier, and indeed be the progenitor of the {{UST}} between the two characters.

* Each of the girls of ''Manga/HayateTheCombatButler'' gets at ''least'' one of these (many of them have had two or three), whether it involves an actual date in which the others have agreed not to interfere, or simply their own arc treatment. The title character's {{oblivious to love}} mindset uses these to only strengthen the {{UST}} between them however.

* In at least the first ''Film/{{Austin Powers|International Man of Mystery}}'' movie, Austin and his new partner Vanessa rent out a hotel room in Las Vegas together, according to Vanessa "to keep up the appearance that we are a married couple on vacation" while they spy on the henchmen of Dr. Evil. At first Vanessa is put off by Austin's behavior, but after they work together for a while, go out for a night on the town, have a little drinking party, and share a few serious moments, Vanessa ends up falling in love with Austin, resulting in their marriage by the end of the movie.

Per TRS, this was renamed to Sex Starts Story Stops

See also CoitusEnsues, but do not confuse the two: this trope is for when situations contrive to make two people fall in love, the other for sexual romance that comes about by halting the rest of the plot.

* ''Anime/PleaseTeacher'' kicked off the series this way with Kei and Mizuho accidentally getting locked in one of the school's sheds at night and unable to get Marie to transport them out. When Kei's aunt and uncle and the school director (referred to as the "Principal" in the dub) eventually turned up to get them out of the shed, Kei and Mizuho had... a lot of explaining to do. This inspired Kei's uncle to claim that the two were married, and then to have the two of them sign all the proper papers to make his story true. Hence, the romance ensues ''after'' the two are married, with them deciding they're going to try to make this marriage work.
* The plot of the second half of ''Manga/RurouniKenshin'': Trust and Betrayal: Kenshin and Tomoe, on the run from the local law enforcement in Kyoto, are forced to move to Otsu and live in a small homestead as husband and wife to avoid suspicion. The characters were acquainted with each other before, and hints were made at some attraction between them. During this time living together, with little interaction from the outside world, their feelings for each other develop into love, they end up marrying, and consummating their love for each other.

* ''LightNovel/SpiceAndWolf'': really only a small part of each of the episodes deals with either of the main characters, Horo or Lawrence, interacting with anyone besides each other. Most of the time they are travelling from place to place with each other, or sharing a living space with each other. With all this time to themselves, it makes sense that their attraction to each other would grow.

* Occurs in Dennis L. [=McKiernan=]'s novel Dragondoom. The two main characters, a human female and a dwarf male, whose races currently despise each other, are subjected to a forced camaraderie. But after traveling together alone for a while learn that neither is as bad as their respective races make them seem, and they both eventually develop feelings. [[spoiler: Unfortunately, neither is able to act upon it [[HeroicSacrifice before]] [[BittersweetEnding the end]].]]

* ''VisualNovel/DoubleHomework'':
** ''Competing'' romances ensue as Johanna and Tamara compete for the protagonist’s affection while the three of them are together in their apartment with no parents. The girls finally decide to share him.
** Can be the case (or subverted if the player doesn’t choose to go anywhere with her) with the protagonist and Rachel. Since they both have to train for the Olympics, they both need to use the gym, but Rachel initially doesn’t want to share it with him. Their first solution is to use the gym on different days, but when Rachel wants the protagonist to avoid her jogging routes around town too, he refuses.

* In ''VisualNovel/DaughterForDessert'', the protagonist and Amanda finally have a chance to get lots of alone time on the trip to Whiskeyville. Amanda has an attraction to the protagonist that she acknowledges (if only to Kathy and herself, while he has an unconscious attraction to her. Slightly subverted, as the protagonist rejects Amanda’s advances; he only reciprocates when Kathy tells him about Amanda’s feelings for him.

* At the start of ''VisualNovel/{{Melody}}'', the protagonist is looking for a fresh start, and the title character is his reluctant student. Sophia playfully ribs Melody about the situation, Melody starts moaning the protagonist's name while masturbating, and the protagonist starts having erotic dreams about Melody. Then, they start spending time alone outside their lessons, especially after Arnold kicks Melody out of the house. The player can either play this trope straight (by having the protagonist accept Melody’s advances when she tells him how she feels) or subvert it (by having him reject her).

This trope can take the form of a romantic getaway to a cabin in the mountains for a weekend, two people who are on the run from the law for some reason living together for a period of time to keep up the facade that they are a married couple, or simply two friends being locked in a shed together at school for some time by accident ([[TenMinutesInTheCloset or by a group of friends trying to get them to hook up]]). This seems to occur more often in works with at least a dash of {{romantic comedy}} in the plot, if not taking up the entirety of the plot.

* In ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid3SnakeEater'', after loads of UST between main character Snake and FemmeFatale / Sidekick Eva throughout the game, Volgin is killed, the Shagohod destroyed, and the Boss is defeated by her former student, allowing Snake and Eva to return to their homes, but not before making a stop at a nice little cabin in the mountains where Snake does what he's been thinking about for days by laying Eva down and making sweet love to her on a bearskin rug in front of a roaring fire. Far away from the enemy armies, and the prying eyes of their respective governments, at a place just for them, Snake and Eva finally allow their romance to flourish. If only it didn't have to be so short...
