Sinkhole of a subjective trope. Opinions don\'t go in main pages

* Half the rape storylines on SoapOperas use this (the other half being wrenchingly graphic). A classic example is the infamous RapeIsLove scene for Luke and Laura of GeneralHospital--he pulls her down to the floor as she cries out, "No, Luke, no!" as the camera pans away. There's some quick shots of the record turntable and various items scattered around the bar, such as her purse and her sweater, before we see Laura huddled on the floor crying with a disheveled Luke standing over her. This may have been one of the few times where a soap HAD to use a discretion shot, as Laura's actress Genie Francis was only 17 at the time and it may very well have been illegal to film anything more blatant.

It might not seem like much, but the anime depiction was FAR MORE DOCILE than the manga.

* Used in the anime version of IkkiTousen. When immobilizes and then rapes , the scren pans to the nearby woods, though we can hear telling the victim how cute her, um, "private parts" are. And later, we see laying down on her stomach, still paralyzed, and with her bare bottom exposed since her skirt is up and her panties are down her legs.

* Censorship wouldn't allow the makers of 1928 silent classic Film/TheWind to show Wirt raping Letty, but they implied it as strongly as possible--Wirt makes menacing advances on Letty, then we cut to the next morning where Wirt is cheerily smug, Letty is near-catatonic, and he assumes that now she's his girl.

* Batman in a retroactive manner. the Son of the Demon graphic novel depicted Talia and Bruce in a consensual relationship. For almost two decades it wasn't considered cannon until 2006 when Batman & Son was a story in the main Batman books. Over the course of two panels we learn that everything in the book was basically Talia's warped fantasy and that she'd had him drugged the whole time. So it's a bit of a retroactive discretion shot. The fact that Bruce was raped as a consequence of this has never been dealt with.

* Often used on ColdCase if the victim of the week was raped before being killed. Rather than the depicting the murder the way most of the final flashbacks did, the scene would cut away as the assualt began.
* An early episode of LawAndOrder had a woman being drugged during a doctor's visit and the scene fading out coinciding with her passing out, horrified at the realization of what has happened and that she's now powerless to stop him from raping her.
** The LawAndOrderUK episode based on this even plays it twice. Aside from the similar scene, as the other members of the team review the tape the woman made of the attack, we can hear everything, but see only their grim, angry, disgusted reactions, never the assault itself.

* Two episodes of WithoutATrace employ this, both during flashback sequences. In one episode, the event in question is recalled by a blind girl who had been kidnapped, along with her tutor, by two teens who did what they were doing ForTheEvulz; the tutor is assaulted by one of the guys, and though we don't see the act, we do hear the woman's sobs while getting a full camera view of the blind girl's face as she listens in abject terror. The other episode employs this with the revelation of a main character's DarkAndTroubledPast: .

* Surprisingly, despite its tremendous profanity, explicit portrayals of sex, and outright gore elsewhere, Preacher keeps Herr Starr's rape by "sexual investigator" entirely off-panel. As with some other examples, this is because the scene runs on RapeIsFunnyIfItsMale OnMale. Indeed, all the male-on-male rape in the series is both played for laughs and kept offscreen; the instance we do see is male-on-female, and is played as RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil.
