** When JuliusSchwartz took over editorship of the ''Superman'' titles in the early 1970s, he had a story where a nuclear accident converted all the kryptonite on Earth to iron. Then he had that balanced out by Superman dealing with a sand doppleganger that takes 2/3 of his power level and Superman ultimately decides to leave it at that. Unfortunately, readers didn't take to this revision and Schwartz was forced to backtrack.

The TropeMaker is of course {{Superman}}, originating back in the days of the radio show. It seemed that every bank robber and common criminal had a chunk of Kryptonite to threaten ol' Supes. FridgeLogic showed that if that many Kryptonite meteorites fell just on Metropolis, then based on the quoted distance from Krypton to Earth, planet Krypton would have to have been several times as large as our sun.
