* VideoGame/DragonQuest: As a general rule, the protagonists of most DQ games tend to be this. They can do a little of everything - healing, support, fighting - but aren't quite as good at any one thing as the more specialized characters. They get powerful equipment, though, and a couple of awesome exclusive spells (Thordain and Healusall), though their usefulness is offset by costing a lot of MP; especially as the heroes also tend to have mediocre MP growth.

** Wraith Squadron as a whole is also this, a unit made up pilots/commandos. They're neither the New Republic's best fighter pilots (that's Rogue Squadron) nor its best special ops forces (that's Page's Commandos), but they're not that far behind either of them in their respective fields. By the time of Mercy Kill thirty years after the original Wraith novels, they're now also extremely capable spies and investigators. There are few units in the New Republic that can step into such a wide variety of roles while still being very skilled at all of them.
** The X-wing starfighter itself is an excellent example. It's not as speedy and agile as an A-wing or a TIE fighter, but it's more heavily armed and therefore able to take on harder targets (especially capital ships). It doesn't pack as much punch as a Y-wing or a K-wing, but it's more fast and maneuverable than they are and therefore better able to take on enemy starfighters. It's not as advanced as a B-wing or an E-wing, but it's easier to maintain and easier to learn to fly. It's not the best at anything, but it's the second best at damn near everything, which explains why it's the favorite starfighter of the Rogues, the Wraiths, and many other Rebel/New Republic pilots, and why it endures for so long despite the introduction of a number of newer ships.

* Series/StargateSG1: Daniel Jackson. He's originally brought on board (in the original movie) for his linguistic skills, and secondarily for his archaeological expertise. Once he's assigned to SG-1, however, he quickly becomes Stargate Command's de facto diplomat, handling everything from first contact with alien cultures to drafting treaties with other planets, and conducting more diplomacy throughout the series than the actual State Department members that appear from time to time. Constantly hanging around military personnel and in combat zones rubs off on him over the years as well, and he gradually turns into a capable soldier, if never to the same degree as O'Neill or Teal'c. Finally, his tendency to act as TheConscience of the SGC and push back against the U.S. government's more questionable practices requires him to become more and more aware of politics and able to navigate them. This becomes especially clear towards the end of Season 7 and the beginning of Season 8: with General Hammond, the SGC's longtime commander, removed from his position, Doctor Weir, its new commander, inexperienced and rushing to catch up on the program, and Colonel O'Neill, the head of its flagship team, incapacitated, Daniel steps up in a big way to become Weir's de facto adviser and ensure that her transition (coming in the middle of a major crisis) goes as smoothly as possible.

* In Literature/InCryptid, cryptozoologists as a rule tend to have skills in a variety of fields -- they not only have to be zoologists, they're also Fantastic Anthropologists for sapient cryptidseven though "anthro" doesn't make sense when talking about non-humans, and almost all of them are skilled in armed and unarmed combat and field medicine (at least the ones that survive). And they all have to be able to spin a convincing lie to Muggles if needed.

** Zuko displays an incredible range of skills over the course of the show, unlike most Benders who rely on exclusively their bending to solve problems. He isn't the strongest firebender in the show, but he is able to beat in a duel early on and continues to improve from there. He also masters a wide array of Firebending techniques many others may not even know exist, including enduring extreme cold at the North Pole and redirect and creating lightning. In terms of non-bending ability, he proves himself to be a skilled swordsman, unarmed fighter, acrobat, spy, tracker, and tactician. Thanks to his time hiding in the Earth Kingdom, he also has at least some passing knowledge of medicine, tea and food preparation, and odd repair jobs.
** Aang is a Master Airbender, but has very limited time to learn the other three elements within the shows 9 month timeline. However the benefit of having all four elements to everyone else's one means that not only can he decide to fight with whatever element best fits the situation, he can use all four elements together to accomplish things no other bender could.

* Skull Boy from WesternAnimation/RubyGloomiis on a quest to find out who he really is and where he came from. In each episode, he performs some plot-related talent. Very well, in fact, and always follows up with this:

** A special mention goes to Senior Infantry NCOs such as the 0369 in the US Marines. While they are usually experts in one “field” of the Infantry (Rifleman, Mortars, Machine Gunners, etc) they are expected to have enough knowledge of every field to be able to act as the platoon sergeant for just about every type of unit, from a rifle platoon to a CAAT.

Supertrope of RenaissanceMan (where someone is exceptionally good at many things) and MasterOfNone (where someone does poorly at a lot of things). A related trope found in VideoGames and TabletopGames is the JackOfAllStats, who has well-balanced stats, not skills. See also TheRedMage, RenaissanceMan and PowerCopying. DoAnythingRobot may be a justification for this. Compare the MasterOfAll, who is the best (or among the best) in practically everything. Contrast MinMaxing, TacticalRockPaperScissors, ElementalRockPaperScissors, CripplingOverspecialization, SacrificedBasicSkillForAwesomeTraining. For similar tropes related to specific fields, see OmnidisciplinaryLawyer, DoAnythingSoldier, and OmnidisciplinaryScientist.

Added DiffLines:

* Fanfic/VowOfNudity: Despite being naked and often unarmed, Haara's build is designed to let her fill every role in the DamagerHealerTank (or the FighterMageThief) triangle. She's got the melee DPS of a monk, HealingHands from her subclass, tankiness with 17AC plus the sanctuary spell, ranged/magic damage with produce flame, and skillchecks/stealth capabilities with guidance. The only team role she largely lacks is Charisma, often struggling to get what she wants from other people she encounters.

* VideoGame/AbyssCrossing: In the character select screen, Rinne's description states that she's an all rounder. In gameplay, she can learn physical attacks, offensive magic of various elements, and healing magic, all while having balanced stats.
