The fact that it is meant to be insulting carries Unfortunate implications, and means severe Double standards. Because "I banged your Dad" does not exist as countertrope, and probably wouldn't be effective as an insult (unless it came from another man, probably). This trope is only comedic because it is supposed to be seriously insulting, and it is only insulting when it's about the Mom.

Strangely, it is seldom answered "Thank you, man, she was so lonely after the divorce" or "I hope you had fun, and I'll kick your ass if she didn't". Any of these would destroy the insulting intention with a good shrug-off. Another point is how in many cases the only proof is the word of the person who says the line (few instances of Stifler's case), and few of the attacked ever seriously consider to not believe the sentence. This trope is common mainly in American media, rarely seen (if at all) in continental European or Asian media (at least for comedic effect, it is seen for tragic effects in the form of rape, but then it's not this trope). Which shows cultural differences and unfortunate implications about how Americans view sexuality.
