Mage Tower is a separate trope

* Literature/{{Discworld}}: Although not necessarily evil per se, Creator/TerryPratchett plays with the trope of the wizard's tower (with influence from ''Literature/TheLordOfTheRings'' as well as fairytale tradition) by saying that, when magic is running at unusually high levels in ''Discworld/{{Sourcery}}'', each wizard is ''biologically compelled'' to build his own tower and start fighting the others, like a snail growing a shell.

* ''VideoGame/MightAndMagic VII'' features a downplayed example in William Setag's Tower. It's not actually that tall (any ominousness comes mostly from the fact that there are very few towers period in Deyja), and except for one specific optional quest all you do with it is talk with William Setag, self-proclaimed [[CardCarryingVillain Villain]] -- but it is definitely a tower that looks out of place and is controlled by evil (Setag does things like kidnap 'the fairest lady in Erathia' ''just for the sake of doing it'').

The edit tip says it clearly. No Real Life Examples of any kind.

[[folder:Real Life]]
* A literal tower of doom existed for many years at the US Army's Fort Detrick in Maryland. [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Building_470 Building 470]] was a 7-story tower built as an anthrax factory, complete with heavy-duty biohazard safety systems (one major leak was so well-contained that no personnel were exposed, even though the leak was catastrophic by any reasonable definition). The building was decommissioned and fully sterilized in 1970 and turned over to the National Cancer Institutes, which couldn't find much use for it, and was finally torn down (verrrrry carefully, mainly because of asbestos concerns rather than biological contamination) in 2003 over a period of ten months.

* ''Literature/TheRiftwarCycle'' has the Sorcerer's Isle, which holds an ominous castle that has a cold blue light shining from its tower's windows and sends sheets of silver light into the sky overhead. A subversion in that it's designed to be maximally ominous to scare people away, but all the lights and sounds don't mean anything. It's even largely left empty; the entire point of the tower is ominousness so the sorcerer in residence can be left alone.
