** ''Fanfic/WeekendAtHisaos'' is a excellently-written story about Shizune and Hisao's relationship after they leave Yamaku Academy. Many fans feel it's even BetterThanCanon due to the MaybeEverAfter tone of Shizune's route in ''Katawa Shoujo''.
** Similarly, ''Fanfic/{{Sisterhood}}'' tackles the period immediately after Hanako's GoldenEnding. It provides a huge amount of added character development for Hanako and Lilly, and it feels like a natural extension of the route.

* ''Fanfic/CicadaPsalms'' is a sequel oneshot to ''VisualNovel/HigurashiWhenTheyCry''. It's set 7 years afterwards, in 1990. The gang has since grown into adults and are happily moving along with their lives.

That, however, is the ''only'' thing its author meant to resolve, albeit with some actual buildup that revolves mostly around Konata and Yutaka's liberation.

* ''Fanfic/TintinAndAlphArtYvesRodier'' is a completed version of ''Tintin and Alph-Art'', the last story in the ''Franchise/{{Tintin}}'' series, which was left incomplete at the time of Creator/{{Herge}}'s death in 1983.

While these can exist for any work, they're most often seen for those that were [[CutShort cancelled before they could be completed]], concluded in a [[AmbiguousEnding deliberately ambiguous]] (or [[GainaxEnding incomprehensible]]) manner, or [[AuthorExistenceFailure had their original author die with the series still incomplete]]. Any work that ended on an "AndTheAdventureContinues!" note is also fair game. Overall, Continuation Fics serve as a response to the human need to ask "and then what happened?"

* The ''Fanfic/TheLegacyOfTheCursedMaskSeries'' (save for the prequel) serve as this to the ''Manga/Inuyasha'' game, ''VideoGame/InuYashaTheSecretOfTheCursedMask'', focusing on Michiru (the "male" PlayerCharacter) at first, though his sister Kaname (the "female" PlayerCharacter) soon joins in before they journey to the Feudal Era with [=InuYasha=] and the others.

** The first of the trilogy comprising ''Fanfic/PokemonMysteryDungeonHopeandFaithSaga'' begins two years after the post-credits ending of ''VideoGame/PokemonMysteryDungeonExplorers'' [[spoiler: and the third incorporates ''VideoGame/PokemonMysteryDungeonGatesToInfinity'']]. A new fiend appears in the Pokémon world, and it's the job of Team Space-Time to put a stop to it.

* A lot of ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'' fanfics take place after the events of the manga ended; not quite NextGenFic for some. ''Fanfic/WhiteRain'' is a very good example.

* ''Fanfic/ReturningTheStones'' starts with the penultimate scene in ''Film/AvengersEndgame'' when Captain America time travels to return the Infinity Stones.

** The fanfic ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6128372/1/ Kira Is Justice]]'' is set four years after the series. (See its trope page [[FanFic/KiraIsJustice here]].)
** There is a similar fanfic to the above called ''FanFic/RyukReturns'', set five years after the series (which also inspired the above).
** And yet another one: ''FanFic/LifeAfterDeathNote''.

* ''FanFic/TheNeverendingRoad'' is an absolutely brilliant ''Manga/HikaruNoGo'' Fanfic that begins right where the manga abruptly ends.

* ''FanFic/{{Rebellion}}'' definitely seems to pick up right after the last episode of the anime for ''Manga/{{Chobits}}''.

* ''[[FanFic/StarsAbove Stars Above]]'' takes place around two years after the events of ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica''... [[spoiler:[[SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong two years from Homura's perspective, anyway.]] The bulk of the story takes place in 2007, four years ''before'' Madoka.]]

* ''FanFic/JustAnUnorthodoxThief'' is a continuation fic for the ''Franchise/LupinIII'' universe, although primarily being a continuation of the ''Anime/LupinIIITheWomanCalledFujikoMine'' animé, with references to other parts of the franchise.
* ''FanFic/CoolerRising'' falls into this for {{Anime/Dragon Ball Z}}. It's set after the battle with Buu, going off some off-hand comments made in one chapter. It's also a continuation of the movies in which Cooler starred, obviously.
* The ''Anime/RevolutionaryGirlUtena'' and ''Anime/MawaruPenguindrum'' crossover fanfic ''Fanfic/SeinenKakumeiUtena'' has its story beginning ten years after the Duel called Revolution, and several weeks after the Fate Train Transfer.

* The ''Manga/DetectiveConan'' fandom has an interesting take on this, because [[LongRunners the series]] is about as [[StrictlyFormula episodic]] [[StatusQuoIsGod as you can get]] while still ''[[ArcFatigue technically]]'' having an ongoing storyline. As a result, many fans have taken to writing "endgame" fics depicting the FinalBattle between the good guys and TheSyndicate, knowing full well that in a few years it'll all be OutdatedByCanon. MangaLuva's ''Fanfic/WhenPandorasBoxIsOpened'' is a pretty good crash-course in what to expect from these fics: full-on CanonWelding with forerunner series ''Manga/MagicKaito'', the mysterious [[{{MacGuffin}} Pandora gem]] driving the plot, and every one of the canon material's carefully-segregated [[CastHerd Cast Herds]] cheerfully mingling and playing XanatosSpeedChess with aplomb. Oh, and {{Shipping}}. [[OfficialCouple Lots]] [[HookedUpAfterwards of]] [[PairTheSpares shipping]].

* ''FanFic/LegacyOfKainDivusSaga'' is an entire series of fics that continue the story that was LeftHanging after ''VideoGame/LegacyOfKain: Defiance''.

* ''FanFic/{{Repairs}}'' is but one of many ''VideoGame/{{Metroid}}'' post-Fusion fanfictions. There's hundreds of the damn things!
* ''FanFic/TelltalesGameOfThronesSeasonTwoAU'' follows the remaining members of House Forrester after the climactic battle of Ironrath against House Whitehill.

* ''FanFic/TheCameraLovesYou'' and its sequel ''The Dreaming'' pick up where the ''VideoGame/TombRaider2013'' reboot left off, using the plot of the original ''Tomb Raider'' as a basis for its storyline. The events on Yamatai have left Lara and Sam traumatized, famous and uncertain of the extent of their feelings towards one another.
