* ''Pocket Games'' magazine was known for being pretty biased against Neo Geo Pocket Color games. Although the first couple of reviews weren't so bad, later on they got harsher and when the NGPC was discontinued, the next issue of the magazine had the final page contain an article of nothing but NGPC bashing and a picture of Mario urinating on a grave of the handheld. [[MagazineDecay It was only getting worse from there.]]

It wasn't a review, it was a look at the effects of one of the most most played and least recognized games at the time. The consensus was that the game "isn't focused on delivering any sort of experience," and exists solely for the purpose of getting people hooked with false rewards and a steady flow of gameplay that could not even be called cookie cutter; it is more akin to, say, baby-formula, something that isn't actually enjoyable, but has the basic elements to rightfully be called "food." Game Informer has nothing against good casual games. They loved Peggle and Plants vs. Zombies.

* The GameInformer review of ''FarmVille''. They didn't actually find the game bad on its own merits...they found it bad merely because it was a "Casual" game and trashed upon traits of it. People who like those types of games typically won't take those reviews seriously; because they want to know if it's a ''good'' game or not, not "I hate this because of the type of game it is". If they wanted to hear those opinions, they would hang out around the IGN or Escapist forums.

This may be because he [[PetPeeveTrope hates a particular trope]] or [[DarthWiki just likes hating in general]]. Then again, he may be an fan of the series/franchise/creator who, out of loyalty, never fails to give the most glowing of praise. In any case, the damage to the review is such that it becomes too biased to be useful. (When a reviewer does this, people tend to ignore it, when fans often use it, it becomes a justified use of DontLikeDontRead)

* HackAndSlash and BeatEmUp genre will avoid IGN like plague, on the other hand. IGN has shown extreme hatred and bias towards such genres, ''especially'' the [[DynastyWarriors KOEI]] [[SamuraiWarriors Warriors]] [[WarriorsOrochi series]]. And when they try to deviate from history such as ''FistOfTheNorthStar Ken's Rage'' or ''DynastyWarriorsGundam'', they still review it as bad or mediocre. And it even extended into ''SengokuBasara''. There is a reason for the saying "[[MemeticMutation You can't spell 'Ignorance' without 'IGN'!]]"

* Finnish games reviewer and columnist Niko Nirvi once took note of this effect in a column explaining the various ways in which [[FourPointScale a review score]] can be affected by outside factors, such as the "Wrong Guy" phenomenon where the game in question is a sequel to something that the reviewer previously loathed, or the opposite effect, where the reviewer is a fan of the IP the game is based on ("It's a {{Batman}} game! I love Batman! Have some Bat-points!").

On the other hand, he also tends to be critical of the stuff he actually does like, a lot of the time for the humour factor. (He admitted that he actually does like ''AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog'' in an interview and on the site's commentary, but that he found it funny to rip it to shreds on camera)

* GameFAQs, as well as a lot of user-submitted reviews are a factory of this. It's not uncommon to find reviews that were merely FlameBait or didn't find the game bad on its own merits, but said "This game sucks because it's an RPG", "This game sucks because it's an FPS", "This game rules because it's a point and click adventure game", "This game sucks and has shitty graphics", "This game sucks because it's a Nintendo game", or "This game rules because it's a Bungie game". Naturally, most people tend to regard these reviews as inaccurate because there are a lot of reviews that are just too biased to be taken seriously.

His major complaint about the Wii is the fact that the motion controls are often buggy, making an otherwise good game unplayable. 90 percent of the time he pans a game, it is for perfectly legitamate reasons. The only time he becomes a Bias Steamroller is when he is reveiwing a genre that he can't wrap his head around, and at the end of the review, he's likely to say that that was the reason he panned it
