** Because of the political tensions with South Africa at the time over issues like apartheid, Flintheart Glomgold is Scottish instead of South African in the [[WesternAnimation/DuckTales1987 original show]]. As a MythologyGag, the [[WesternAnimation/DuckTales2017 2017 reboot]] has him exaggerate his Scottish tendencies to a truly ludicrous degree (as pictured above) [[spoiler:because he actually ''[[SubvertedTrope is]]'' South African, and assumed a fake Scottish persona to [[BeatThemAtTheirOwnGame one-up Scrooge in as many ways as possible]]]].

** In Pre-Crisis continuity, Julia Pennyworth was the daughter of Alfred and the resistance fighter Mademoiselle Marie, and was raised with French citizenship. The mother of the New 52 version is unnamed, but as a former British special ops, it can be assumed she was raised in the UK.

** S.H.I.E.L.D. itself, it is an American organization rather than an international one.

** ComicBook/{{Morbius}} is Romanian (as result of being Count Dracula's brother in this universe) instead of being Greek-American.
** ComicBook/KaZar and [[Characters/MarvelComicsSavageLand Shanna the She-Devil]] are natives of the Savage Land instead of English and American-Zairian respectively.

* The ''Fanfic/DestinyAfterandalasia'' series changes some of the character's nationalities. In some cases, characters are just changed from being from a country's fictional counterpart to their real world incarnation. Others get outright edited, such as Rapunzel being from Italy rather than a Germanic country.
* In ''Manga/Evangelion303'', Shinji Ikari is an American national, although he was still born in Japan.

** [[Characters/MarvelComicsSavageLand Ka-Zar]] and [[Characters/MarvelComicsSavageLand Shanna the She-Devil]] are natives of the Savage Land instead of English and American-Zairian respectively.

** Ka-Zar and ComicBook/ShannaTheSheDevil are natives of the Savage Land instead of English and American-Zairian respectively.

** Dirk also gets turned into an American in ''Film/LeftBehindRiseOfTheAntichrist''.

* ''A Man Called Otto'' changes the pregnant neighbor from ''Literature/AManCalledOve'', who was an Iranian named Parvaneh, to a Mexican, Marisol.

* In the original stage production of 'Theatre/TheMiracleWorker'' and its 1962 film version, Creator/AnneBancroft portrayed Anne Sullivan with an Irish accent. While the real Anne Sullivan was Irish-American, she was born and raised in Massachusetts and spoke with a New England accent (which was allegedly too hard for Bancroft to master).

* The 2018 stage version of ''Film/MoulinRouge'' changes Christian from British to American.

* Sandy in the theatrical version of ''Film/{{Grease}}'' was American, but when Music/OliviaNewtonJohn was cast in the film version, the character was made Australian to account for her accent. Some adaptations make her of Polish descent.

* The ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars'' series sometimes changes where certain casts come from, such as turning aliens into Earthlings:
** ''Anime/GunXSword'' has been subjected to this in all of its mainline appearances, as its characters were supposed to be from a faraway planet called "Endless Illusion," but are always changed to being from Earth. In ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsK K]]'', they come from an Earth different from the one where most of the cast comes from, while in ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsT T]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWars30 30]]'', they from a terraformed Mars.

* ''Anime/SonicX'' has a fantasy variation. In the [[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog games]], as shown by ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure'', Amy naturally lives on Earth and has her own apartment in Station Square. In ''X'', all the FunnyAnimal characters are from another dimension. While she did have an apartment in Station Square while stuck on Earth, Amy's normal home in ''X'' is a small, rural looking house. The same applies to almost every other ''[=SegaSonic=]'' character in the anime.

* ''Film/EdgeOfTomorrow'' combines this with RaceLift: the main character is a Japanese man named Keiji Kiriya in the original light novel ''LightNovel/AllYouNeedIsKill'', but an American soldier named William Cage in the movie adaptation.

* The 1939 Creator/TerryToons version of ''WesternAnimation/TheThreeBears'' makes the titular bears Italian, complete with spaghetti instead of porridge.

** ''Film/DoctorStrange2016'' The Ancient One is usually an [[OldMaster Old Master]] [[MagicalAsian Tibetan]]. Here, Tilda Swinton portays the character who is stated to be 'Celtic'.

* Meanwhile, in ''{{Series/Sherlock}}'', Irene Adler goes from being an American in the books to English in the show. Henry Baskerville is Canadian in the books, but his ''Sherlock'' counterpart, Henry Knight, is British.

* ''Film/StarTrekIITheWrathOfKhan'', Dr. Carol Marcus is an American. In ''Film/StarTrekIntoDarkness'', Carol is British since she's played by Creator/AliceEve. WordOfGod said that this universe's Carol grew up in England.
