Lost City of Gold isn't *exactly* an adaptation. It's more of... I honestly don't know what to call it. It's an... alternate universe... continuation... spinoff? I dunno. Either way, it's still a clearly-marked part of the Dora franchise that isn't directly adapted from any previous works, and thus it doesn't really qualify for this trope

Added DiffLines:

When an adaptation of a work has a different title than the source material. This can happen because the original title was difficult to understand, too similar to an unrelated work, or the producers simply wanted a better name. This may overlap with MarketBasedTitle, when the name is changed in international versions.

Depending on how different the title and/or the story are, this can lead the work to be seen less as an adaptation and more as a work ''influenced'' by the original, since now the title can't tie the two together. DivorcedInstallment is the more extreme version of this.

See also AdaptationNameChange, when something in-story has its name changed. See also AppropriatedTitle, which occurs when a franchise that began with a work of a particular title is better known by the name of a later installment in said franchise. Contrast InNameOnly, where the ''name'' is kept, but most or all of the ''content'' is different.

* The book series that ''Series/GameOfThrones'' is based on is actually called ''Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire''; it's only the first book that's called "A Game of Thrones''.
* ''Series/TheHauntingOfBlyManor'' is a loose adaptation of ''Literature/TheTurnOfTheScrew''; the name change is partly to tie it to ''Series/TheHauntingOfHillHouse'', of which it is part of the same anthology series. It also serves as an adaptation of another Creator/HenryJames story, ''Literature/TheRomanceOfCertainOldClothes'', which is reworked here to fit into the Bly Manor narrative.
* ''Series/{{Haven}}'' is a loose adaptation of the Stephen King novel ''The Colorado Kid''.
* ''Series/PhilipKDicksElectricDreams'' is an anthology series that is based on Creator/PhilipKDick's work. Some of the episodes have a different title than the short stories they're based on:
** "[[Recap/PhilipKDicksElectricDreamsS1E4CrazyDiamond Crazy Diamond]]" is based on "Sales Pitch".
** "[[Recap/PhilipKDicksElectricDreamsS1E5RealLife Real Life]]" is based on "Exhibit Piece".
** "[[Recap/PhilipKDicksElectricDreamsS1E9SafeandSound Safe and Sound]]" is based on "Foster, You're Dead!"
** "[[Recap/PhilipKDicksElectricDreamsS1E7KillAllOthers Kill All Others]]" is based on "The Hanging Stranger".
* ''Series/{{Shadowhunters}}'' is an adaptation of ''Literature/TheMortalInstruments''
* ''Series/{{Smallville}}'' is based loosely on the ''ComicBook/{{Superboy}}'' comics that focused on Clark Kent.

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* ''WesternAnimation/GeneratorRex'' is inspired by an obscure comic called ''M. Rex'' that lasted only two issues.
* ''Franchise/MastersOfTheUniverse'' toyline was adapted as ''[[TheHero He-Man]] and the Masters of the Universe'' first in [[WesternAnimation/HeManAndTheMastersOfTheUniverse1983 1983]] and later a {{reboot}} in [[WesternAnimation/HeManAndTheMastersOfTheUniverse2002 2002]]. The only media that adapted the same name as the original toyline is the [[Film/MastersOfTheUniverse 1987 movie]].
* ''WesternAnimation/SheRaAndThePrincessesOfPower'' is an adaptation of the original ''WesternAnimation/SheRaPrincessOfPower''. The title change reflects how Adora isn't or doesn't know she's a princess in the reboot as she never finds her biological family in this version, and the "princess(es) of power" instead refers to her princess allies now rather than herself.
* ''WesternAnimation/StaticShock'' is based on ''ComicBook/{{Static}}''.
