* AbsoluteXenophobe: [[spoiler:The Turlogs secretly believe that all other life forms are noisy and irritating and that the universe would be a better place without them. They're ostensibly allied with the Weave because they legitimately don't want to be dominated by the Amplitur, but there are a number of them that are [[TheMole also feeding information to the Amplitur]] in order to prolong the war and increase casualties on both sides. They're also trying to push both sides to employ weapons of mass destruction, so far without success. However, since they also don't especially like dealing with ''each other'', they are not universally treacherous.]]

* TooDumbToFool: [[spoiler:The notoriously slow-witted Lepar are completely immune to telepathic mind control, quite possibly because their thought processes are so primitive relative to the other intelligent species of the galaxy. That said, they're smart enough to realize it would be very bad for them if this trait was ever discovered, so they conceal this ability by either pretending to obey or assassinating those that figure it out, depending on circumstances.]]

** However, when it comes to activities outside of warfare, humans shift to become MasterOfNone - they're not nearly as smart as the smartest species, as good at engineering or building things as many other species, and considered uncouth barbarians in general. The more forward thinking of the Weave species realize that leaving humans with absolutely nothing to do is a really bad idea; the Amplitur surrendered in the secret hope that humans end up fighting the Weave out of frustration at being left out of peacetime prosperity.

** However, when it comes to activities outside of warfare, humans shift to become MasterOfNone - they're not nearly as smart as the smartest species, as good at engineering or building things manual labor as many other species, the species that focus on those, find themselves outclassed in pretty much every specialized or technical field, and they're considered uncouth barbarians in general. general because they're certainly not the most social or diplomatic out there. The more forward thinking of the Weave species realize that leaving humans with absolutely nothing to do is a really bad idea; idea, but most of the Weave is indifferent ''because'' of humanity's not entirely underserved reputation for violent ferocity. In fact, the Amplitur surrendered in the secret hope that humans end up fighting the Weave out of frustration at being left out of peacetime prosperity.

Added DiffLines:

* ISurrenderSuckers: The Amplitur don't give up the war because they have given up the Purpose, they've simply concluded that they can't defeat the Weave militarily so long as it's allied with humanity. They fully believe that humans will eventually turn on the Weave for lack of anyone else to fight and that [[PoisonousCaptive they might even be able to help that along]], then pick up the pieces afterwards. Even if they have to wait centuries or millennia for this, it's the best plan they can think of.

* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch: Will Dulac, the first human encountered by the Weave, spends most of ''A Call to Arms'' trying to tell the Caldaq and the other Weave representatives that humanity is not warlike by nature, is working toward world peace and wants no part of the Weave-Amplitur conflict. * HumansAreSpecial: By Damned universe standards, Earth is a DeathWorld with impossibly harsh climates, high tectonic activity, high risk of meteor showers and geography that encourages political conflict. As a result, humans are far stronger, faster and more aggressive than any sentient species the aliens have ever encountered. Humans even seem to enjoy violence. The aliens are both horrified and thrilled. Naturally, they recruit us to fight our wars for them as soon as possible. The cephalopods soon discover that attempting mind control on humans does nothing to humans, and drives the aliens trying it catatonic.
