* YouAndWhatArmy: Variation in the film's final act: when Chuck the dog catcher pursues Bella to the VA center, he tries to bully them into handing over the dog, citing city laws (the center is Federal terrain, and thus not subject to city laws) and then "I'm a law enforcement officer, who are you!?". All of the veterans mention the branches they served in as a response (and showing he does not scares them).

Chuck tries to do his own version by calling reinforcements, but the police and other animal control officers are a ReasonableAuthorityFigure and call Chuck out on his excessive actions.

Moved some examples to the YMMV subpage.

* AmbiguousDisorder: It's never mentioned what's wrong with Axel or whether his mental illness is due to his heroin abuse, his experiences as a soldier, or a combination of both. He's delusional and very paranoid of others. He refuses to stay in one place because he thinks people are tracking everyone, but if he's homeless then they can't track him properly. Axel suffers from frequent nightmares as well.

* SpiritualSuccessor: To Cameron's previous success, ''Literature/ADogsPurpose''. Both are from the [=POV=] of dogs born as strays, but ''A Dog's Purpose'' stars a dog as it goes through several reincarnations, while ''A Dog's Way Home'' is more grounded in reality and focuses on one dog's life (though she still goes through many owners as she tries to get back to Lucas).
