While it could also have gone very badly thanks to the established prejudice, one can also imagine how extremely awkward it would have been if she'd been able to take the call...and then had to explain why she was in what appeared to be a prison cell, in the dark, with a fox.
** After the police storm the scene and act confused and suspicious about Nick's presence, he simply wordlessly flashes the toy badge that Finnick had slapped on him earlier with absolute confidence and walks past them.
