* The Continue? screens from "No Save" mode for Tails and Knuckles are funny. Tails looks like he's ready to doze off (and is startled when you choose to continue) while Knuckles throws a tantrum and stomps his feet (and clenches his fist if you choose to continue).

* Somebody made a mod that swaps out the Special Stages with tracks from ''VideoGame/SuperMarioKart'''... with Sonic in a little go-kart. [[https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=j0F1t8BJFbY See it for yourself.]]

* When starting Chemical Plant, a cutscene plays where your character of choice gets splattered by chemicals just before starting the stage. No matter who you choose, their reaction is priceless. Tails even had a DummiedOut animation for this cutscene where [[MundaneUtility he dries himself off with his tails.]] (In the final game, he simply looks up.)Plus brings this back.

** Just the fact that Eggman was considerate enough to lower the controls so either three can use it.

* [[spoiler:The shrink ray returns in Metallic Madness Act 2. If Tails is "dead" while Sonic passes by the beam that reverts him back to normal, Tails won't revert, leading to a tiny Tails following Sonic around. The inverse can also happen, letting a normal-sized Tails follow a tiny Sonic around.]]

** And the normal boss fight for the act when playing as Sonic and/or Tails isn't a slouch either: [[spoiler:Heavy Rider, riding a frenzied and pumped-up Motobug named Jimmy, pretty much zooming back and forth trying to smack you with her flail. Except occasionally she takes a high ramp, and jumps clean over fire-spewing hazards while confetti and the cheers of an unseen crowd go out, making the boss like less of a knight and more of a stuntwoman.]] In what's also a moment of heartwarming, Jimmy the Motobug is named after a rom hacker who made the ''Motobug in Sonic 1'' hack.

* [[spoiler:In Titanic Monarch Zone]], you can encounter an Eggrobo who gives you a ride to the other side... [[EpicFail only to end up crashing to pieces at the end of the track as your character remains fine]]. It's made even better by Sonic's mildly surprised expression during the ride, which he maintains [[LateToTheRealization even after the sled has crashed]].
* Deflecting the Heavy Gunner's missiles back at him results un a hilarious OhCrap reaction from him.

* There's an EasterEgg in [[spoiler:Hydrocity Zone where, if you input the ''Sonic 3 & Knuckles'' Level Select code[[note]]left, left, left, right, right, right, up, up, up[[/note]] while holding onto a hook, you will hear a ring sound. The next time you're grabbed by a speed booster, the regular sound effect will not play. Instead, it's a voice clip of ''LetsPlay/VideoGameDunkey'' mimicking the booster. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TftUoKFNKcg Hear it for yourself.]]]] Was sadly removed in an update, as it was likely that the devs had snuck it past Sega's approval process.

* After defeating [[spoiler:Metal Sonic]] in Stardust Speedway in Sonic Mania Plus, the Phantom Ruby looks [[HopeSpot ready to be taken out of Eggman's hands]]... only for a random Badnik to knock it offscreen before the player can get to it. It then hops in place for a few seconds before rolling away, [[{{Troll}} almost as if it's laughing at you]].

* The ending of Episode 5... [[spoiler:where after a hard-fought win and some clever hacking from Tails, Metal Sonic was disabled. Then, just as it seemed like it was about to power up using the Master Emerald, ''Knuckles'' comes in out of nowhere (being late tailing everyone else) and ''[[MegatonPunch punches out both Metal Sonic and Eggman clear into the distance in one comical swing.]]'' He then huffs away with the Master Emerald while everyone else is utterly dumbfounded, including Sonic, who has nothing to offer but a shoulder shrug to the camera. SmashCut to Sonic, Tails, Ray, and Mighty eating chili dogs as the "zone clear" music plays.]]

* Sonic and Dr. Eggman [[spoiler:getting into a classic hand slap fight over a Chaos Emerald whilst they're both caught in one of the latter's traps.]] It's funny to see these decades old enemies brought down to the level of children.
** Sonic was about to [[SaveTheVillain save Eggman]] from his own trap... until he realized that the evil doctor had nearly all the Chaos Emeralds already and was planning to take the last one from Sonic one way or another before defeating him -- complete with [[StylisticSuck cheesy little animations]] of Eggman dancing triumphantly and an [[WingdingEyes X-eyed dead Sonic with flies and stink lines.]] Unamused, Sonic instead [[GoodIsNotNice decides to smack the bomb and lower the remaining time left to five seconds,]] before [[HoistByHisOwnPetard speeding off and leaving Eggman to be blown up.]]

** When Sonic & Tails are about to finish him off, Eggman unable to do anything as [[OhCrap his face slowly showing how screwed he is]].

* The ending of Episode 5... [[spoiler:where after a hard fought win and some clever hacking from Tails, Metal Sonic was disabled. It looks like he's about to make a clean getaway... until the five heroes zoom by in their Super modes and bop him into the portal to suffer a fate unknown]].

* Like when they released an infomercial for ''Sonic Mania'', SEGA released another one for ''[[https://youtu.be/oiFgaatXuRc Plus]]'' that parodied their "NES vs. Genesis" ad. This ad [[TakeThat ruthlessly mocks]] triple A [=FPSes=], with the person trying to sell the game advertising ''lootboxes'' as a selling point.

* Upon reuniting again in episode 4, Ray lightheartedly punches Mighty in the arm. The armadillo returns the favor, but [[DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength accidentally sent Ray flying immediately instead]].
