** Light Yagami is a subtle example. Indeed, there are very few justifiable reasons for Light to do what he does throughout the course of the story. There are no personal or particularly tragic events that, at the very least, justify his malice and his quest for power, beyond his disdain for the state of the world and his desire to shape it in his own way and to his own form. His malice, sadism, and malignant narcissism are not the result of Freudian Excuses. From the outset, we learned that he comes from a very functional family that always cared for him, and he never had anything resembling real problems. He was always a child who was given everything and never had to suffer anything. Instead, he seeks an excuse for thousands and millions of people to praise him and submit to his whims. The fact that everything he did, he did because he was bored and to inflate his ego doesn't help.

*** Light Yagami's murder of Naomi Misora, while not without reason, is by far his most pointlessly sadistic act, being just cruel for cruelty's sake. * Manga/HoshinEngi: Dakki seems to delight in nothing more than sheer sadism to the point that her own allies find her actions incomprehensible, but what makes her truly dangerous is that she's apparently studied the EvilOverlordList, thwarting her opponents at every turn -- and then she reveals that everything she's done was all part of a massive GambitRoulette.

* Anime/PrincessTutu: Although Drosselmeyer does have a few things in his back story that give him a motive, there's strong indication that his biggest motivator is he just finds tragedy... fun! As he was a writer, he may be DoingItForTheArt and it just so happens that he enjoys his art.

Pretty sure it was because she was jealous the pedo stepfather wasn't having sex with HER like she wanted. Still messed up, but not really "evil for the sake of evil" like with Tomoo and his cronies.

** Anime/DragonBallSuper: Goku Black takes this trope to disturbing levels. Remember when Frieza killed Namekians for fun? Black is exactly that, but worse. Sure, . Furthermore, with all his divine power at his disposal, he could be more methodical and erase the mortals quickly. Instead, he commits carnage slowly and kills billions of men, women and children with sadistic glee, revealing that in the end, Black is a depraved, twisted monster.

** Devils in general are AlwaysChaoticEvil (the exceptions can be counted with one hand). The Underworld is a bleak, boring place, and devils have nothing better to do than to literally torment their weaker kin for entertainment... except tormenting mortals in the living world if they are given the smallest chance to escape the Underworld.

*** Dante Zogratis is of the belief that evil is the true nature of humans, and goes out of his way to forcefully impose this belief on Asta by impaling Gauche while he's powerless to stop it. When Asta predictably loses it, Dante compliments him for "becoming a true human".
*** Vanica Zogratis is this to a lesser degree, but if it motivates her enemies to give her a proper fight, she will kick as many dogs and push as many buttons as it takes.
*** Not even her own Dark Disciples are safe; when she's had her fill at the Heart Kingdom, she blows them up in an attempt to take out as many civilians as possible, all just to fuel Noelle's hatred further (not that Noelle didn't already despise her guts).
