* EveryoneHasStandards: Madison is a bimbo and [[spoiler:her fubar with the nut allergy]] is a perfect picture of "TooDumbToLive". She still thinks that the Babylon commune is dumber than she is with its SuicidalPacifism.

** Nevada, Flagstaff and Albuquerque have cleary had their share of adventures over the last few years.

* RecklessGunUsage: When they're celebrating Christmas in the White House, Tallahasee gives Little Rock one of Elvis' custom-made .45's and asserts that it's "locked and loaded." When taking it out of the box he points it directly at Little Rock's head, and points it at her again while talking about its' history.

* MenOfSherwod: The hippie residents of Babylon are pacifistic and TooDumbToLive for the most part, but they perform their limited role in the climax (forming a corridor with shields to herd the charging zombies [[spoiler:to the edge or a roof where they'll fall to their deaths]]) surprisingly well and without losing anyone.

* {{Foreshadowing}}: The trippy psychedelic music playing over the introduction to Babylon is the Brian Jonestown Massacre's "Panic in Babylon," foreshadowing the impending disaster there.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome:
** Cars that work are hard to come by. Columbus states that years of neglect mean that most cars have broken down and you can't be picky about what you drive.
** Madison immediately sleeps with Columbus when she gets the chance because it's been years since she last had human contact. It's understandable that she'd react very strongly to the first guy she's seen in years. Hilariously foreshadowed when she meets up with Columbus in the mall and immediately hugs him.
** Tallahassee tries to drive a monster truck, and then crashes twice because he has no experience with a truck that big.
** [[spoiler:Babylon melts down all guns. In the climax, this leaves them hard pressed to defend themselves.]]
** [[spoiler:Doing donuts in a tall monster truck could very easily tip it over.]]
** Anything heavy dropped from a great height is deadly if it hits you in the head. [[spoiler:Babylon's people dropping heavy things into the horde of T-800s from atop their tower kills several. Adding on to this, the density of the horde means the dropped items ''will'' hit a zombie.]]
** After Little Rock shoots the zombie clinging to Tallahassee dead, he points out [[spoiler:he's still dangling over the edge of the tower and needs to be pulled to safety before he loses his grip.]]

** Madison tells Tallahassee, Columbus, and Wichita about her idea of a replacement for the dying taxi industry: an online service where strangers pick up other strangers to drive them to wherever they need and also give passengers the ability to rate drivers in case they attempt to murder them. Tallahassee and Wichita [[ItWillNeverCatchOn call it out for being a stupid idea]] and being the antithesis to everything StrangerDanger had been attempting to teach kids.
** Columbus also reads a copy of ''ComicBook/TheWalkingDead'' and characterizes it as "terrifying but totally unrealistic".

* OlderThanTheyLook: Columbus is 36 years old (much like [[Creator/JesseEisenberg his actor]]), yet he still hasn't aged since the first film.

* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Berkley mistakes Tallahassee angrily repeating his name after they're introduced as meaning that Tallahasse is from Berkley to, and marvels about what the odds of that are.

* HiddenDepths: Madison is TheDitz and somewhat difficult to be around for that reason, with Tallahassee believing she will just be TheLoad. But she did manage to survive the zombies by herself for years and proves to be more helpful than anyone expected, if not still annoying.

* GrumpyOldMan: Tallahassee is slowly turning into one, although in his defense he has a lot of stressors throughout the film (Little Rock growing up and then running off, Columbus {{wangsting}} about Wichita, being stuck driving a minivan, and his interactions with the Babylon hippies, Madison and Albuquerque).
