->"Tell me something: you can go anywhere you want, right? Any timeline, any universe. Why do you want to stay and fight to save this one? You change the future and you change the past."

The Flash is a 2023 superhero film directed by Creator/AndresMuschietti, from a screenplay written by Christina Hodson. It is the twelfth film and thirteenth overall installment of the Franchise/DCExtendedUniverse, and the long-awaited solo theatrical film adaptation of the Creator/DCComics character of the same name.

Some time after Film/League 2017 League, Barry Allen uses the Speed Force to travel back in time and discover the truth about his mother's death to clear his father's name. In testing the limits of his powers to travel back in time, Flash unintentionally breaks into TheMultiverse. With the help of a Bruce Wayne from another universe, Supergirl, and an alternate version of himself, it's up to Barry to solve the mystery of his mother's demise and a find way back home.

The film stars Creator/EzraMiller as Barry Allen / The Flash and Creator/MichaelKeaton as Bruce Wayne / Batman from another universe. Alongside Keaton's Batman, Creator/BenAffleck also reprises his role as Bruce Wayne / Batman from the DCEU, Creator/KierseyClemons reprises her role as Iris West from Film/ZackSnydersJusticeLeague while new additions to the cast include Creator/SashaCalle as ComicBook/Supergirl, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, and Creator/RonLivingston as Henry Allenreplacing Creator/BillyCrudup from both versions of Justice League.

A 3-issue Prequel comic book mini-series called The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive is due to be released in October, focusing on Barry's relationship with his mentor Bruce Wayne prior to the events of the movie.

Taking inspiration from ComicBook/Flashpoint, this film is also a SpiritualSuccessor to the Series/Arrowverse Crossover Series/2019, wherein Miller's Barry met his counterpart (Creator/GrantGustin) from Earth-Prime. The film also draws influence from The Flash: Rebirth (2009) as part of Barry's story.

The Flash will be released on June 23, 2023.

Previews: DC Fandome 2021 teaser.
----
!! The Flash contains examples of:
* AlternateSelf:
** The Fandome 2021 teaser shows another version of Barry Allen that is also portrayed by Ezra Miller.
** The teaser also shows the Batman of the 1989 and 1992 films in costume. The Batman of Barry's universe is way different.
* CostumeEvolution: Barry wears a new suit in the teaser that is markedly different from the suit he had in both versions of Justice League.
%%No citation * ForWantOfANail: As with any version of the Flashpoint story, Barry preventing his mother's death has unintended consequences that he must reverse.
* IronicEcho: When Barry first met Bruce Wayne, he was being offered a position on the Justice League, to which Barry replied, "I'm in!" The teaser then shows Barry as the one forming a team, and asking Bruce Wayne to join him, which he offers by saying, "Are you in?"
%%No citation, Speculation* LighterAndSofter: The initial premise is similar to that of Comicbook/Flashpoint, except that Flash's attempt to SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong here doesn't seem to completely wreck the world.
* MythologyGag:
** Barry's new suit in the teaser is near-identical to his outfit from the New 52, including the glowing line patterns across the torso.
** In the teaser, the Alternate Barry cries out, "Holy...!" when he sees the Batmobile.
** Although it's hidden under a tarp, it's strongly implied that the Batmobile is the same one from Tim Burton's films.
* ThemeTuneCameo: In the teaser, when Michael Keaton's Batman is talking, a small snippet of Music/DannyElfman's "Photos / Beautiful Dreamer" is heard.
