Like many movies of this time, ''Jewel Robbery'' is set during UsefulNotes/TheGreatDepression. It follows a pampered baroness named Teri (Franis), who lives in Vienna with her husband Baron Franz von Horhenfels. She enjoys getting jeweled presents, but wants more in life instead of her boring marriage, and even becomes excited over scandalous stories in the newspapers. When she visits the jewellery store with her husband, he haggles at a price for an expensive Excelsior diamond, just as the store has been targeted by jewel thieves.

Teri could've been one of them.)

''Jewel Robbery'' (1932) is a deliciously [[UsefulNotes/ThePreCodeEra Pre-Code]] comedy film directed by William Dieterle, starring Creator/WilliamPowell and Creator/KayFrancis. It’s the less classy cousin to ''Film/TroubleInParadise'' from the same year.

The film begins in Vienna where Baroness Teri (Francis) is boringly married to Baron Franz von Horhenfels and wishes to be whisked away by a [[KnightInShiningArmour debonair knight in shining armour]]. Even so, she’s excited that her husband is buying her the Excelsior diamond. Her fear from reading the reports of a distinguished robber [[{{Foreshadowing}} holding up jewelry stores in the neighbourhood]] is soon lulled away by the excitement.

The day comes and the Baron and Baroness go shopping, but they’re robbed by the exact distinguished man (Powell) from the newspapers.

During the heist, sparks of sexual innuendo and tension fly between Teri and the Robber, but this intriguing heist soon ends. Teri seriously doubts she’ll ever see this debonair man again.

Safely at home, Teri is bewildered by the sight of a [[FlowersOfRomance vase full of roses in her boudoir]]; no one can explain how it apppeared. Teri realizes the return of the Robber is imminent, especially when she finds her stolen ring back in her safe.

It turns out that the Robber has been waiting for Teri to suggest a proposition, but Teri’s reluctant to start a relationship. Fortunately, the Robber makes a compelling case for getting together.
