Goodbye Christopher Robin is based on real life. This is based on fictional books that have no real life events.

** It could also be seen as an unofficial sequel to ''Goodbye Christopher Robin'' due to it’s focus on Christopher Robin’s adulthood as well as the Fox-Disney acquisition making any chances of a connection more possible.

The story is inspired by Creator/AAMilne's ''Franchise/WinnieThePooh'', and is the franchise's first LiveActionAdaptation film. Christopher Robin, the human friend of Winnie-the-Pooh, is now all grown up, and he has lost all sense of imagination. It's up to Pooh and his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood to re-enter Christopher's life and help him find it again.

* RealIsBrown: Going by the trailer and very unusual for a Disney and Pooh film, all of the colors are very desaturated to emphasize the depressing reality of what it means to grow up and lose your innocence -- even Pooh looks worn and depressed. Piglet also wears a dark green sweater as he did in the original stories, as opposed to the vibrant pink he’s mostly known for in Disney works. Slightly PlayedWith for Eeyore, who is clearly baby blue as opposed to his usual gray in-fiction (the character is usually plain blue for merchandising).

The books in turn were inspired by the real Christopher Robin Milne. And it seems that on the surface the film is borrowing the same family dynamic that he had as an adult, without changing it dramatically.

** The real Christopher Robin Milne served in the army, worked in a furniture store but was fired due to lacking business sense, and eventually opened a book shop in Dartmouth. Ewan's Christopher Robin is an HonestCorporateExecutive who's fighting for his employees to keep their livelihoods.
** Also, Christopher Robin Milne, while not disliking Pooh Bear and his childhood personally, took great pains to create a separate identity as he grew out of the suffocating childhood image that made him famous. Here, while at first Christopher Robin is bemused to see Pooh Bear again, in this world his father never wrote the books that would become a British and American phenomenon, and so he has no resentment about how everyone only saw him as Christopher Robin.
** Clare Milne, Christopher Robin Milne's daughter, had cerebral palsy, and as an adult became a disability rights activist. Here, C.R.'s daughter is named Madelyn, and she is in perfect health.

** A flashback adapts a moment in the Milne books never covered in any of Disney’s prior adaptations: the going away party for Christopher Robin that his friends hold for him. His final goodbye to Pooh, on the other hand, did get adapted for both the epilogue of ''The Many Adventures'' as well as ''Pooh’s Grand Adventure''; the latter also used the “even when I’m a hundred” line.
** As noted in NonStandardCharacterDesign, both Rabbit and Owl are portrayed as actual living animals despite the rest of the cast being stuffed animals, just as they were in the original Milne stories.
** This is not the first time Pooh and friends have entered the “real” world and had misadventures; on several occasions in ''The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh'', the gang would interact with the real world and people besides Christopher Robin. In “Pooh Day Afternoon”, the characters also found themselves having some vehicular mayhem.
