** It's generally accepted among fans that Kaiba, in spite of his abrasive personality, is in actuality a harsh-but-fair BenevolentBoss as well as being an HonestCorporateExecutive, with both often being contributing factors to Kaiba Corp's meteoric rise in power and influence. This is supported by the fact that Kaiba's employees still stood by him even when he lost the company to Pegasus, as well as the fact that the cutting-edge Duel technology displayed in 5Ds is still backwards-compatible with the now-ancient Battle City Duel Disk.

*** Even though it's never been officially confirmed, most fans take it for granted that Yugi is the reincarnation of the Pharoah/Yami Yugi. To explain how they can coexist in the same body, the claim is that Yugi is the reincarnation of the "light" half of the Pharoah's soul, and Yami Yugi is the "dark" half, which was sealed in the Millennium Puzzle. The same claim is made for Bakura and the Spirit of the Ring. Hence the usage of "hikari" and "yami" above.

* Thanks to an EyeCatch from the third season of ''{{LightNovel/Slayers}}'', just about every fanfic writer believes that Luna Inverse and The Beast Master, one of the five Dark Lords under Ruby Eyed Shabranigdo, are best friends. This seems to stem mostly from a mixture of the manga (which revealed that the werewolf/troll crossbreed Dilgear did, indeed, heal from his fatal wounds and ended up becoming Luna's pet) not being very available and Luna's willingness to [[GoodIsNotNice pass off saving the world and claim she was too busy being a part-time waitress]], instead insisting that they approach her... This is despite Luna being known to carry the soul of the chief ''god'' of their world within her, essentially making her a Paladin of such power she can kill a dragon with a kitchen knife and a natural enemy to all Mazoku.

* It's a commonly known fact that the protagonists of ''VisualNovel/{{Tsukihime}}'' and ''LightNovel/TheGardenOfSinners'', Tohno Shiki and Ryougi Shiki respectively, both of whom can see the "predetermined death of all things" can only see the deaths of those with a "Gaian concept of death". Except this isn't fact; it's a theory created by English-speaking fans based off something written in the side materials: Specifically, that neither of the Shikis can kill ORT, the Ultimate One from the planet Mercury (otherwise known as TYPE-MERCURY). The reason that neither of the Shikis can kill ORT is because it literally does not have a "death", at least not one that either of the Shikis can recognize. According to Word of God, TYPES like ORT cannot be killed, even if you eliminate their physical bodies, as they don't have a concept of life or death to begin with. Fandom has run away with this, claiming that the reason neither of the Shikis can kill ORT is because it is not from Earth.

** The series never gives an exact date to when the events in the story unfolds, just that it is set in the Taisho Period of Japanese history, which went from 1912 to 1926. However, by the time the anime covered the Red-Light District arc and added a detail that didn't exist in the manga, the fires in the fallout of the final Upper-6 battle, made some fans link that detail to the real historical event in Japan where the very same Yoshiwara Red-Light District caught fire in 1913 thus this could potentially give the series an exact date to exactly when the story takes place.

* ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'': Ichigo's second Hollow form is generally referred to as a Vasto Lorde by the fandom due to its appearance, despite his form never being labeled as such in official media. Vasto Lorde is the ultimate stage of a Hollow's evolution, but Ichigo's Hollow form has a completely different origin that has nothing to do with Vasto Lordes, and we later see Tousen's Hollow form that looks nothing like a Vasto Lorde would look like and is too powerful to be any one of the lesser evolution stages. Like Ichigo's Hollow form, Tousen's Hollow form has never been labeled as any of the Hollow evolution stages and none of the fans even think of it as a Vasto Lorde, but story-wise and lore-wise, it functions exactly the same as Ichigo's Hollow form. The filler flashback of Harribel's past depicted her as a Vasto Lorde, but she was greatly outmatched against a mook Arrancer, and one of the databooks state that most of the Espada were once Vasto Lorde. If going by the latter, then Ichigo's and Tousen's Hollow forms are way beyond the power of the Vasto Lordes, and Hitsugaya has been greatly exaggerating their power level, and he would later be proven to an unreliable source of information again with the release of the ''Can't Fear Your Own World'' light novels.

** A surprisingly popular theory among fans is that Hol Horse is Mista's father. This likely stems from both having Stands based that allow them to control the direction of their guns' bullets (as well as both having the tendency to end up getting hit by their own bullets), as well as Hol Horse's mercenary occupation and status as TheCasanova who claims to have "girlfriends all over the world" making it entirely possible that he's been to Italy. The fact that Mista was born in 1982 and Hol Horse appears to be in his late 20s or early 30s in 1989 means that the timeline matches up as well.

** Due to the tendency for Stand Users to survive what should be lethal wounds, it's a common belief that gaining a Stand makes a person inherently stronger and tougher than the average human. This has no real basis in canon, as most of the time, the Stand User surviving lethal wounds tend to have to do more with strategy and determination over raw strength. Similarly, a common belief is that having a Stand makes a person smarter, which does have some basis in canon via animal and baby Stand Users, both of which have shown intelligence far greater than they should have.

The fact that Gwess would have been 12 during the events of ''Golden Wind'' also helps make this idea more plausible.

*** To what extent Jotaro's father Sadao was involved in his life growing up is never elaborated on, but the fact that he's away at the time of the Part's events, as well as Jotaro's attitude regarding him, leads many to believe that he's was absent for most of Jotaro's life. Then again, it's still left vague enough that some can think that him being away is an exception to the Kujo's usual home life.

** The setting introduced the fact demons can use a system called Blood Battle Succession to challenge Twelve Kizuki members for their spot or become higher ranked, however, no demon is specifically stated to have made use of it, yet Doma was once the Upper-6 in the past, now he is the Upper-2; fans assume Doma actually challenged Akaza for the spot since Muzan created the Twelve Kizuki with Akaza as a member from the get go, making Upper-1 Kokushibo some company, adding to the fact Akaza had a huge grudge against Doma for being the Upper-2 despite he being older than the cult leader.
** Tanjiro's father, Tanjuro, actual cause of death is never revealed, it is just some unspecified illness that took him 1 year before the story began. As the series goes a certain power called Demon Slayer Mark is revealed, coupled with Tanjiro suspecting his father had a birth mark under his scar, it is later explained by Kokushibo who lived in the prime era of Marked slayers that [[spoiler:all Marked ones die once they reach 25 years of age, no exceptions beyond his borderline divine younger twin brother Yoriichi]]; Tanjuro's age during death is not revealed, but his very weakened appearance while still performing Breathing arts in Hinokami rituals could be the example of a dying [[spoiler:Marked person]].

This is based off a panel of the manga, where characters we see the back of the heads of are called these surnames and the backs of their heads ''kinda'' look like Kaori's and Chihiro's. Sakaki or Kagura don't have any commonly agreed-upon names, though, and it isn't even agreed if they're family names or given names. Occasionally, even the nameless background extras are given fan names, as is the case with Rachel Handlebars.
** A very common belief is that Osaka has forgotten her real name is Ayumu Kasuga. This was never actually seen in either manga or anime, instead being taken from the ''Tsunami Channel'' webcomic. In fact, at one point she freaks out upon discovering that she isn't listed on Miss Yukari's class roster, because she was looking for her birth name. Yukari put her down as "Osaka".
** Another common one is that Nyamo and Yukari are an item. Or, alternatively, that they ''were'' one. This appears to have most basis in the fact that [[HeterosexualLifePartners they are still single]] and that Nyamo still puts up with Yukari's [[{{Jerkass}} insults]] and [[SenseiChan childish behavior]]. More observant fans often cite Nyamo's drunken lecture about "adult relationships" and the [[NoodleIncident love letter]] Yukari teases her about; since it's later explained that they both attended an all-girls' school, [[SchoolgirlLesbians it's easy to fill in the blanks]].

* ''Manga/ElfenLied'': On a great many fansites, Silpelit Number 3, who infected Kurama causing him to sire Mariko as a Diclonius and is supposed to be the older sister of Nana. There is no evidence for this. It appears to be a mistake one person made that was then lifted literally verbatim on each successive site.
* ''Manga/FushigiYuugi'': This has a couple of typical fanon elements that came up much more often in the high days of the fandom, but persist in the fanfic that still exists, despite most of it being Jossed by the addition of ''Genbu Kaiden'' and the novels published after the anime ended:
** Ashitare (if he's not dismissed entirely) is written as having a full human form that is as {{Bishonen}} as any other guy in the manga, but this doesn't happen often because Ashitare is mostly undeveloped as a character.
** Tomo and Soi are assumed to hate each other and are love rivals over Nakago; they're not, and they don't. They actually work very well together the one time they're shown doing so. If they aren't written as hating each other, they're usually friends instead, having bonded over having been sexually abused as children (canon in her case, fanon in his). In the same vein, Tomo's real name is usually given as Ruo or Ryo Chuin; the novels name him Ragun.
** Before ''Genbu Kaiden'', Uruki of the Genbu Seishi was usually written as a woman in fanfic because of the star Uruki is represented by. Hilariously, Uruki is a man... who [[GenderBender must change into a woman]] to use his wind powers.
** Whether Nuriko was in love with Miaka romantically or loved her platonically was a subject of fierce debate; the answer depends on whether you're a YaoiFangirl or not.
** Mitsukake (if he's mentioned at all) is sometimes written as having been a military doctor, usually leading to him [[TakeALevelInBadAss getting a power upgrade]]. The rest of the time he's a pacifist with [[WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway lame healey-bubbleys]], which conveniently forgets that his healing powers also exorcise demons.
** Hikitsu and Tomite were often written as brothers.
** Tasuki doesn't like women because of his four older sisters always giving him a hard time, fanfics usually write him as being gay, even if they're not yaoi fics. Not helped by Creator/YuuWatase giving a WordOfGay in regards to him. [[TeasingCreator LOL]].
