* ''Comments'': A two-chapter work with a really refreshing, TearJerker take on why Romano is such a bitch to Spain: he secretly believes that his having romantic feelings for a man are against his religion and he's a sinner for it (not to mention he thinks Spain is playing him, when he's very much not). The characterization of Romano is very cool to read, from his snarky and nasty moments to his lovesick ones, even his prayers. There's a short but poignant conversation with [[spoiler: God]] in the latter half; that and Romano's final "confrontation" with Spain right afterward really tugged at this troper's heartstrings. Different, loving, funny, and worth the read all the way.

* ''Comments'': Well written and elegant, this fic isn't as long as many of the multi-part stories listed here, but it manages to convey a great deal of emotion in each part. It should also be noted that the author is very knowledgeable about ancient Rome, so this fic happily averts the DidNotDoTheResearch trope.

* ''Comments'': Still a work in progress, this story is quite different from the normal student/teacher AU. It's not a pwp for starters. It realistically deals with the troubles of their age difference and homosexuality in a high school setting, the effects of a very dysfunctional family, and past traumas both physical and emotional. The characterizations are amazing, they all have a well thought out and complex back story. This is very heart wrenching, fluffy, and steamy love story while adding in the appropriate amount of humor and pop culture references that come with a nerdy Alfred. It is definitely worth reading.

* Paring: Germany/Italy, Romano/fem!Spain, France/Canada, Prussia/Hungary, US/UK, Ukraine/Belarus...Man...
* Synopsis: Ludwig Beilschimdt, an ex-military man with a very...peculiar past is given a job in the Mafia by his older brother to bodyguard a millionaire playboy. Ludwig is reluctant, bu the longer he stays, the less he wants out.
* Comments: This fic... I loved it to heck. The characters are amazingly developed, (even with Feli replacing Francis as resident perv,). This story is a yaoi fic (hello US/UK), but the large amounts of violence may have earned it it's M-rating. I was in love with the way Germany was portrayed in this, with a lot of dark history and tsundere personality. Well written. This will be a classic.

* ''Comments'': Words cannot describe how amazing this story was written. The author has done a lot of research in terms of magic (based on character's personalities or they already had it in the actual series. Example is America has {{Super Strength}} like he does in the series. The Italy brothers have [[SuperpowerLottery extremely power energy magic]] passed down to them by Grampa Rome, etc.) The characters in the story are all well written. As suspected that Russia is the villain of this story. However, he falls into the {{Anti Villain}} category with his goals of a [[UtopiaJustifiestheMeans world of his vision]] and while he is describe liked a {{Complete Monster}} to the main characters (and some things he done like to the Italy brothers and Liechtenstein generally falls under the {{Moral Event Horizon}}), he really isn't and takes the {{Psychopathic Manchild}} trope up to what it's worth with heavy empathizes on the manchild apart as Russia clearly does not see the damage he is doing to the majority of the cast. Another thing that's well written is America and England's relationship. Its heavy on the {{Belligerent Sexual Tension}} part and just when they finally get together, things fall back right into it. The author seems to try and deconstruct this trope saying in her own words that the reason they hooked up fast ({{YMMV}} on that though) because everything happening around them is so fast and compared it to war time couples. As a result, it's very entertaining to see them interact and love each other one moment and then fighting the next. All in all a wonderful read that this troper thought was reading a strict from an adventure role playing game (but not written in that format mind you.)

* ''Comments'': This fic is sad, happy, and a whirlwind of emotion. It's an AU, but handled well, with the history and the realism being well woven into the plotlines. The main focus is on Arthur and Alfred, though Francis and Matthew show up as well. Currently has a companion fic called "Auf Wiedersehen, Sweetheart" which is about the story of Ludwig and Feliciano in this universe, who are often mentioned, and though they never show up directly, they are still a pretty hefty part of the story.

* Pairings/Characters: Austria/Hungary, hints of Germany/Italy, with appearances by England and France.
* Synopsis: WorldWarI had finally ended. Broken and defeated, Austria and Hungary reluctantly accept their formal divorce in the Treaty of Versailles. Their last night together as husband and wife now threatens to open old wounds...and perhaps a chance to start over.
* Comments: If you don't mind the admittedly steamy sex that does take place, the story is actually really touching. Not only does it manage to capture the characters well, it also offers both a dreary look into the aftermath of the War and a surprisingly good justification [[spoiler:as to why they're still together]] down the line, long after their divorce. Without spoiling anything else, let's just say England and France didn't expect what happens.

* ''Comments:'' Beautiful characterization. Italy's still {{Moe}} without coming off as incongruous to the fic's atmosphere, and some of his comments were so adorable this troper d'awwed loud enough for the entire house to hear. Finland was also a perfect mix of ColdSniper and FriendlySniper, and his [[NightmareFuelStationAttendant dark side]] did a good job to counteract the {{Ukefication}} he goes through in most fics.

* Comments: Hetalia is a fandom of history, politics and basically the international relationship between [[MoeAnthropomorphism anthropomorphic]] countries. It's not surprising that the most popular fics are also some of the darkest. People looking for stuff that doesn't make them want to curl up in a corner and rock back and forth is hard. This one, which has America [[spoiler: being pathetically in love with England after thinking he got hit with a gayray]] is just the right amount of romantic and comedic and is probably best to read after reading that dark and disturbing fic. America is [[ObliviousToLove oblivious]] and [[EveryoneCanSeeIt people want to hit him over the head]]. Still, charming. The characters aren't butchered to fit the plot, despite it being a romantic comedy, and Arthur is ''in a pairing'' [[UkeFication without being emasculated]], which is pretty much an infamous trope in Hetalia fics.

* Comments: Well done, and one of the greatest [[Holy Roman Empire=Germany]] fic with just the right amount of humor, seriousness, and kept everyone in character.
