* HeroicBSOD: Marinette suffers a brief and minor one in the Parfum Palace tag battle during the first round, wherein she is eliminated first and Adrien had to fight off [[OfficialCouple Ivan and Myène]] on his own. Despite being able to move on to the next round, Marinette felt humiliated for holding Adrien back and ran off before Adrien found her and snapped her out of it.

** The first chapter features a flashback on how [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe Marinette fell for Adrien]]. It mentions them [[NotWhatItLooksLike having a rocky start because of Chloé]], just like in the Origins episode of Miraculous Ladybug. However, Adrien finds Marinette under a tree with an injured ankle. He tends to her ankle and encourages her to believe in herself after apologizing for the incident, which is similar to how Ash met Serena in their Pokémon summer camp when they were younger. The scene continues with Adrien helping Marinette up and escorting her under his umbrella when it starts raining while they were still holding hands, thus combining both romantic scenes.

* RealityEnsues: Unlike the Pokémon games where a lone child protagonist takes down the resident criminal organization without additional consequences, the main protagonists in this story have to take on hero disguises to fight Team Akuma. The author points out that in real life, dangerous organizations would have plenty of powerful resources on hand and would not be afraid to resort to abduction to get their way. Marinette and Adrien disguise themselves to avoid having Team Akuma trace them back to their loved ones and endanger them as a result.

It is treated more as an AlternateUniverseFic in which the entire cast from Miraculous Ladybug is placed in the world of Pokémon. More specifically, the setting is centered upon the Kalos region, given that it is inspired by France. The story mainly focuses on Marinette Dupain-Cheng, as well as her friends and classmates recognizable from the main series, as they graduate out a school for Pokémon Trainers and they engage in their respective journeys throughout Kalos to learn more about Pokémon and the world around them.

Of course, given that everything from Miraculous Ladybug is imported into the Pokémon world, that includes a familiar Big Bad now in charge of his own [[NebulousEvilOrganization criminal organization]] and seeking the power of creation and destruction through [[OlympusMons Xerneas and Yveltal]].

* ActionGirl: Marinette, naturally. UpToEleven as her Kalos defender counterpart, Lady Ledian, when it comes to facing Team Akuma.
* {{Adorkable}}: Marinette is a natural in being this when confronting Adrien. On the flip side, Adrien, as [[PungeonMaster Liepard Noir]], is also this, but is downplayed.
* AdultsAreUseless: Subverted. Nadja Chamack, who is the current Lumiose Gym Leader on top of being a report, attempts to engaged a brainwashed Ivan and his Rhyhorn once Team Akuma decided to make a public attack on Geosenge Town in Chapter 24.
* AlternateUniverseFic: The author attempted this to see what it would be like if the Miraculous characters lived in the Pokémon universe, such as what kind of Pokémon would they capture.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Lila is set up to be a more formidable rival for Marinette than Chloé, having traveled around longer and competed in a couple of League Conferences up to the present day. Though how well she actually did in the Conferences remains unanswered.
* ArcWords: “Believe in yourself, just like your friends do.” This is Adrien’s advice to Marinette, revealed in a flashback in Chapter 1.
* {{Catchphrase}}: When calling upon her Ledyba/Ledian, Marinette uses “Tikki, spots on!”
** Also, when Marinette catches a new Pokémon or wins a gym badge, she yells, “Miraculous Ledyba/Ledian!” The Ledyba/Ledian part depended on the stage Tikki is in.
** Similarly to the first, Adrien uses “Plagg, claws out!" for sending out his Purrloin/Liepard.
* BeachEpisode: Chapter 29. Doubles as a sort-of date episode between Marinette and Adrien, courtesy of [[ShipperOnDeck Alya]].
* BearHug: Marinette gives one to Adrien while [[ItMakesSenseInContext riding a Rhyhorn]] with him when he brings up guilt over their bad first meeting over Chloé’s prank back in Lumiose Academy.
* BigBad: Team Akuma, led by a man calling himself Poison Moth, modeled after Venomoth.
* BigDamnHeroes: Adrien, as Liepard Noir, pulls this at the end of Chapter 24 as Lady Ledian was fighting a couple of Akuma Grunts and Ivan by herself. This is their debut after all.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Team Akuma abducts Trainers under their leader’s command, to which he uses his Malamar’s Hypnosis to ensure total cooperation before subjecting them to Mega Evolution energy, which from Pokémon XY&Z was shown to subjugate even a [[OlympusMons Zygarde]].
* BrilliantButLazy: Plagg is said to be a very strong Pokémon, but his lazy and cheese-ravenous tendencies prevent him from being ambitious.
* CharacterDevelopment: Many of the characters are bound to receive this one way or another.
** As the main character, Marinette receives a ton of focus. Her issues in confidence and self-esteem stem from her overburdening herself by trying to [[ThePerfectionist live up to high expectations, even though no one else is putting heavy expectations on her]]. Whether it’s to not be seen as TheKlutz or to impress Adrien is unknown, but with the many friends she gained from her classmates and her own Pokémon, Marinette is becoming more self-confident the more she [[ArcWords believes in herself]]. Of course, there is still the matter of living up to Lady Ledian as herself, but she’s getting there slowly but surely.
** After being eliminated early on in the Coumarine Showcase, Juleka is left to wonder what more she needs to do once she is noticed. Her problem as TheQuietOne is that because she never has a lot of attention placed on her, she is confused on [[AndThenWhat what to do next]]. Her main goal now is to find out what kind of Kalos Queen she wants to be while competing alongside Rose, [[spoiler: who won the same Showcase]].
** Chloé is [[BreakTheHaughty due for one]] given that she’s lost all her onscreen battles and is dealing with a disobedient starter Pokémon. It is especially important [[spoiler: considering that she is to become a Miraculous hero in season two of the main series]].
* ChekhovsGun: The seemingly ordinary Key Stones Marinette and Adrien currently have? [[spoiler: They restored Ivan to his normal self, stripping him of Mega Evolution energy experimenting done on him by Team Akuma in Chapter 25.]]
* ChildProdigy: Adrien, being the son of Kalos Champion Gabriel Agreste.
* CrushBlush: Marinette’s default reaction around Adrien, often described to [[UpToEleven ridiculous levels]].
* CurbstompBattle: Marinette delivers one to [[AlphaBitch Chloé]] 3 to 0 in Chapter 27.
** Chloé was on the receiving end again with Sabrina in the Parfum Palace Tag Tournament, courtesy of Kim and Max.
* DistressedDude: Ivan, being the first known victim to Team Akuma. Doubles as a ShoutOut to the fact that he was chronologically the first Akumatized victim in Miraculous Ladybug.
* EpicFail: Chloé attempts to show off to Adrien during the informal Parfum Palace Tag Tournament that she was going to win, except that she didn’t and her match wounds up being described as the shortest one to date.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: Marinette’s crush on Adrien was noted by Mylène and Ivan in Chapter 18. Lampshaded by Alya in the same chapter.
* ExcitedTitleTwoPartEpisodeName: How the chapter titles are written!
* {{Expy}}: Aside from Kalos being based from France, the author himself took the time to note strong similarities between the Miraculous Ladybug characters to Pokémon characters from both the games and the anime.
** Marinette is an expy of Serena (both game and anime), [[ClarkKenting Sina]], and May from Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire.
*** Her Kwami turned starter Pokémon, Tikki, is a Ledyba who evolved into Ledian in the Shalour Gym in Chapter 23.
** Adrien is a combination of Calem, [[ObliviousToLove Ash]], [[ClarkKenting Dexio]], and Brendan from ORAS as well.
*** His Kwami turned starter Pokémon, Plagg, started as a Purrloin and evolved into Liepard sometime before Chapter 25.
** Alya is a combination of [[BestFriend Shauna]] and [[IntrepidReporter Alexa]].
** Nino is Tierno in terms of being upbeat and instead of dancing, he focuses on music. Interesting enough, [[PerpetualFrowner Ivan]] shares Tierno’s huge build.
** Nathaniel is Trevor in terms of long red hair and [[TheQuietOne being generally quiet]].
** Alix is Korrina, a roller-blading {{Tomboy}} that, at least in this story, comes from a family of Mega Evolution users.
* FriendlyRivalry: Marinette becomes one for Adrien because she CannotSpitItOut while they were in Lumiose Academy.
** Adrien and Nino.
** Pretty much everyone in their class aiming for the Kalos League, sans Chloé.
* {{Jerkass}}: Chloé, nuff said.
** Lila is rather downplayed, but the author confirmed that her and Marinette’s rivalry was bound to match the intensity of Ash and Paul’s rivalry.
* KickTheSonOfABitch: Chloé’s starter Pokémon, Servine, showed signs of disobedience during her [[CurbstompBattle one-sided battle against Marinette]], ultimately leading to her loss.
* LoveTriangle: More like love rectangle once the alter egos made their debut.
** Played straight between Marinette and Lila, becoming a love rival on top of regular rival, for Adrien.
* MacGuffin: The special Key Stones, labeled as the Earrings of Xerneas and the Ring of Yveltal by Master Fu, Marinette and Adrien receive from a source anonymous (again by Fu) to them by the end of Chapter 21. It turns out that they have [[ChekhovsGun another use outside of initiating Mega Evolution]] as seen in Chapter 25 upon taking on Team Akuma under their superhero alias.
* MamaBear: Marinette in regards to [[AdorablyPrecociousChild Togepi]], the youngest member of her team.
* MeaningfulName: The title of the story itself is a combination of elements between Miraculous Ladybug and Pokémon.
* ObliviousToLove: Said to be an InformedAttribute of Adrien, but given his [[ParentalNeglect background]], it might be justified. However, it’s still somewhat averted as he is still a ChickMagnet in-universe and is aware of his fans.
* PaperThinDisguise: Unlike the main series where their costumes were produced by magic, Marinette and Adrien had to acquire their superhero costumes on their own and find opportunities to change without others finding out. But given that this is the [[JustifiedTrope Pokemon universe]], no one can really tell it’s them under the masks. They make Team Rocket proud.
* PungeonMaster: Adrien, as Liepard Noir, tosses out Pokémon puns instead of regular puns, which still induces a LamePunReaction for Lady Ledian, aka Marinette. Strangely enough, he tossed out a few Poképuns as himself early on in the story. Marinette’s reaction towards Adrien, however, appears to zigzag between groans and girlish giggles.
* RedOniBlueOni: Zigzagged. Marinette is the emotional Red Oni to Adrien’s reserved Blue Oni. However, Lady Ledian is the collected Blue Oni compared to the reckless Red Oni that is Liepard Noir.
* RunningGag: A notable one is Marinette forgetting to ask Adrien for his phone number whenever they meet up, but [[ClarkKenting for good reason]]. Sure she could’ve gotten it from Alya, who has it, but [[StalkerWithACrush Marinette would rather not have any sort of evidence implicate her]].
* RuleOfThree: Alya committed three transgressions, albeit unintentionally, to Marinette [[spoiler: prior to them going their separate ways in Chapter 30, which provided plenty of friction in their big fight]].
** The first was in Chapter 24 when Alya ditched Marinette in Shalour City to go to Geosenge Town when Team Akuma attacked, endangering herself for the sake of a scoop. To be fair, it did give Marinette the opportunity to change into Lady Ledian and fight.
** The second was at Lila’s introduction in Chapter 26. Alya heard of her name before and started to name off some of her supposedly great accomplishments right in front of Adrien, which included competing in the Hoenn Ever Grande Conference and Johto Silver Conference, as well as meeting famous celebrities. That didn’t sit well with [[ClingyJealousGirl Marinette]] and Alya realized too late the implications of her actions.
** The third was Alya suddenly announcing her leaving Marinette to intern in Lumiose Press by the end of Chapter 29. Her timing couldn’t be more horrible and [[KickTheDog Marinette had such a good day too]].
* ShipTease: Outside of the expected Marinette/Adrien pairing, Alya and Nino had their moments when their class reunited to have a tag team tournament in Parfum Palace.
* ShoutOut: This fic has given plenty of them towards most of the Pokémon anime episodes in addition to reusing elements from Miraculous Ladybug. However, there are a few other pop culture references scattered about.
** The first chapter features a flashback on how [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe Marinette fell for Adrien]]. It mentions them [[ItsNotWhatItLooksLike having a rocky start because of Chloé]], just like in the Origins episode of Miraculous Ladybug.
** Alya mentions how Adrien is “as unaware as a Slowpoke with a Sharpedo gnawing on his tail” in Chapter 22. This references Pokémon Sun & Moon Episode 5, which has an exact scene of the aforementioned.
** The methods that Team Akuma is said to use to corrupt, control, and strengthen Trainers and their Pokémon is through Mega Evolution energy and the Bond Phenomenon, which was a power exclusive between Ash and his Greninja in the anime.
** In Chapter 28, a Pokémon Performer makes her appeal in the Theme Performance with [[WesternAnimation/DuckTales “Scrooge]] [[{{Pun}} McDucklett.”]] Sadly, she didn’t qualify for the Freestyle Performance.
** The author makes a reference to Sun & Moon Episode 15 using a metaphor tying back to Rockruff’s “unique training” with Ash in Chapter 29.
** Chapter 30: [[Series/MontyPythonsFlyingCircus Were you expecting the Kalosian Inquisition?]] [[AscendedMeme “Nobody expects the Kalosian Inquisition!”]]
* TechnicianVersusPerformer: In general, Marinette is the Performer to Adrien’s Technician. But in their hero costumes, Lady Ledian focuses more on tactics while Liepard Noir, despite being [[InformedAttribute highly educated on Pokémon moves and abilities]], is more bold and reckless in his battle style.
* TheRival: Chloé typically serves as one towards Marinette, but Lila is said to be a more competent one.
* TheWatcher: Master Fu has observed Marinette and Adrien from afar on top of his Torterra, Wayzz, but has secretly given them [[ItMayHelpYouOnYourQuest particularly special Key Stones]] as means to fight against Team Akuma, who is threatening to overthrow the balance of life and death.

There’s more in stake than preparing to take on the Pokémon League and challenge the Elite Four for our heroes.

** After **After being eliminated early on in the Coumarine Showcase, Juleka is left to wonder what more she needs to do once she is noticed. ** Chloé **Chloé is [[BreakTheHaughty due for one]] given that she’s lost all her onscreen battles and is dealing with a disobedient starter Pokémon. It is especially important [[spoiler: considering that she is to become a Miraculous hero in season two of the main series]].

** Nino **Nino is Tierno in terms of being upbeat and instead of dancing, he focuses on music. Interesting enough, [[PerpetualFrowner Ivan]] shares Tierno’s huge build.
** Nathaniel **Nathaniel is Trevor in terms of long red hair and [[TheQuietOne being generally quiet]].

* PaperThinDisguise: *PaperThinDisguise: Unlike the main series where their costumes were produced by magic, Marinette and Adrien had to acquire their superhero costumes on their own and find opportunities to change without others finding out. But given that this is the [[JustifiedTrope Pokemon universe]], no one can really tell it’s them under the masks. They make Team Rocket proud.
* PungeonMaster: *PungeonMaster: Adrien, as Liepard Noir, tosses out Pokémon puns instead of regular puns, which still induces a LamePunReaction for Lady Ledian, aka Marinette. Strangely enough, he tossed out a few Poképuns as himself early on in the story. Marinette’s reaction towards Adrien, however, appears to zigzag between groans and girlish giggles.

* ShoutOut: *ShoutOut: This fic has given plenty of them towards most of the Pokémon anime episodes in addition to reusing elements from Miraculous Ladybug. However, there are a few other pop culture references scattered about.
** The **The first chapter features a flashback on how [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe Marinette fell for Adrien]]. It mentions them [[ItsNotWhatItLooksLike having a rocky start because of Chloé]], just like in the Origins episode of Miraculous Ladybug.
** Alya **Alya mentions how Adrien is “as unaware as a Slowpoke with a Sharpedo gnawing on his tail” in Chapter 22. This references Pokémon Sun & Moon Episode 5, which has an exact scene of the aforementioned.

There’s more in stake than preparing to take on the Pokémon League and challenge the Elite Four for our heroes.

There’s more in stake than preparing to take on the Pokémon League and challenge the Elite Four for our heroes.

* RedOniBlueOni: *RedOniBlueOni: Zigzagged. Marinette is the emotional Red Oni to Adrien’s reserved Blue Oni. However, Lady Ledian is the collected Blue Oni compared to the reckless Red Oni that is Liepard Noir.

Of course, given that everything from Miraculous Ladybug is imported into the Pokémon world, that includes a familiar Big Bad now in charge of his own [[NebulousEvilOraganization criminal organization]] and seeking the power of creation and destruction through [[OlympusMons Xerneas and Yveltal]].

There’s more in stake than preparing to take on the Pokémon League and challenge the Elite Four for our heroes.

** Similarly to the first, Adrien uses “Plagg, claws out!” for sending out his Purrloin/Liepard.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Team Akuma abducts Trainers under their leader’s command, to which he uses his Malamar’s Hypnosis to ensure total cooperation before subjecting them to Mega Evolution energy, which from Pokémon XY&Z was shown to subjugate even a [[OlmpyusMons Zygarde]].

* {{Jerkass}}: Chloé, nuff said.

** The **The third was Alya suddenly announcing her leaving Marinette to intern in Lumiose Press by the end of Chapter 29. Her timing couldn’t be more horrible and [[KickTheDog Marinette had such a good day too]].
* ShipTease: *ShipTease: Outside of the expected Marinette/Adrien pairing, Alya and Nino had their moments when their class reunited to have a tag team tournament in Parfum Palace.
** Alya **Alya mentions how Adrien is “as unaware as a Slowpoke with a Sharpedo gnawing on his tail” in Chapter 22. This references Pokémon Sun & Moon Episode 5, which has an exact scene of the aforementioned.
** The **The methods that Team Akuma is said to use to corrupt, control, and strengthen Trainers and their Pokémon is through Mega Evolution energy and the Bond Phenomenon, which was a power exclusive between Ash and his Greninja in the anime.
** In **In Chapter 28, a Pokémon Performer makes her appeal in the Theme Performance with [[WesternAnimation/DuckTales “Scrooge]] [[{{Pun}} McDucklett.”]] Sadly, she didn’t qualify for the Freestyle Performance.
** The **The author makes a reference to Sun & Moon Episode 15 using a metaphor tying back to Rockruff’s “unique training” with Ash in Chapter 29.
** Chapter **Chapter 30: [[Series/MontyPythonsFlyingCircus Were you expecting the Kalosian Inquisition?]] [[AscendedMeme “Nobody expects the Kalosian Inquisition!”]]
* TechnicianVersusPerformer: *TechnicianVersusPerformer: In general, Marinette is the Performer to Adrien’s Technician. But in their hero costumes, Lady Ledian focuses more on tactics while Liepard Noir, despite being [[InformedAttribute highly educated on Pokémon moves and abilities]], is more bold and reckless in his battle style.
* TheRival: *TheRival: Chloé typically serves as one towards Marinette, but Lila is said to be a more competent one.
* TheWatcher: *TheWatcher: Master Fu has observed Marinette and Adrien from afar on top of his Torterra, Wayzz, but has secretly given them [[ItMayHelpYouOnYourQuest particularly special Key Stones]] as means to fight against Team Akuma, who is threatening to overthrow the balance of life and death.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: *TrademarkFavoriteFood: Adrien’s Purrloin/Liepard loves Moomoo Farm cheese. Likewise, Marinette’s Ledyba/Ledian is said to enjoy Poké Puffs aside from cookies.
* TrainingFromHell: *TrainingFromHell: It is implied that Adrien went through some of this before being allowed to join Lumiose Academy, resulting in him being seen as TheAce by many. Of course, his father, the current reigning Kalos Champion, would’ve preferred to have him privately trained in the frigid forests outside of Snowbelle City to groom him to become the next Champion.
* WhamEpisode: *WhamEpisode: Chapter 20, where Marinette and her friends encounter Team Akuma for the first time as themselves. Despite being able to defeat the Grunts, [[DownerEnding Ivan wound up being captured and is subsequently corrupted]].
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: *YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: Marinette finds herself on the receiving end of this due to her crippling self-confidence. She is usually pulled out of this by [[GetAHoldOfYourselfMan Alya]] or in few cases, [[ShipTease Adrien]].
** Juleka **Juleka receives one from a fellow competing Pokémon Performer when she loses at the Theme Performance in the Coumarine City Showcase in Chapter 28 as she was surprised on how many people voted for her. The results were a very close race.

[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12073409/1/To-Be-A-Miraculous-Master To Be a (Miraculous) Master]], written by [[https://www.fanfiction.net/u/8090985/Zor-the-Reaper Zor the Reaper]], is an ongoing crossover fanfic between WesternAnimation/MiraculousLadybug and Franchise/{{Pokemon}}, published on Website/Fanfiction.Net.

** Similarly to the first, Adrien uses “Plagg, claws out!” for sending out his Purrloin/Liepard.
* {{Jerkass}}: Chloé, nuff said.

!!To Be a (Miraculous) Master contains examples of:

*ActionGirl: Marinette, naturally. UpToEleven as her Kalos defender counterpart, Lady Ledian, when it comes to facing Team Akuma.
*{{Adorkable}}: Marinette is a natural in being this when confronting Adrien. On the flip side, Adrien, as [[PungeonMaster Liepard Noir]], is also this, but is downplayed.
*AdultsAreUseless: Subverted. Nadja Chamack, who is the current Lumiose Gym Leader on top of being a report, attempts to engaged a brainwashed Ivan and his Rhyhorn once Team Akuma decided to make a public attack on Geosenge Town in Chapter 24.
*AlternateUniverseFic: The author attempted this to see what it would be like if the Miraculous characters lived in the Pokémon universe, such as what kind of Pokémon would they capture.
*AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Lila is set up to be a more formidable rival for Marinette than Chloé, having traveled around longer and competed in a couple of League Conferences up to the present day. Though how well she actually did in the Conferences remains unanswered.
*ArcWords: “Believe in yourself, just like your friends do.” This is Adrien’s advice to Marinette, revealed in a flashback in Chapter 1.
*{{Catchphrase}}: When calling upon her Ledyba/Ledian, Marinette uses “Tikki, spots on!”
**Also, when Marinette catches a new Pokémon or wins a gym badge, she yells, “Miraculous Ledyba/Ledian!” The Ledyba/Ledian part depended on the stage Tikki is in.
**Similarly to the first, Adrien uses “Plagg, claws out!” for sending out his Purrloin/Liepard.
*BeachEpisode: Chapter 29. Doubles as a sort-of date episode between Marinette and Adrien, courtesy of [[ShipperOnDeck Alya]].
*BearHug: Marinette gives one to Adrien while [[ItMakesSenseInContext riding a Rhyhorn]] with him when he brings up guilt over their bad first meeting over Chloé’s prank back in Lumiose Academy.
*BigBad: Team Akuma, led by a man calling himself Poison Moth, modeled after Venomoth.
*BigDamnHeroes: Adrien, as Liepard Noir, pulls this at the end of Chapter 24 as Lady Ledian was fighting a couple of Akuma Grunts and Ivan by herself. This is their debut after all.
*BrainwashedAndCrazy: Team Akuma abducts Trainers under their leader’s command, to which he uses his Malamar’s Hypnosis to ensure total cooperation before subjecting them to Mega Evolution energy, which from Pokémon XY&Z was shown to subjugate even a [[OlmpyusMons Zygarde]].
*BrilliantButLazy: Plagg is said to be a very strong Pokémon, but his lazy and cheese-ravenous tendencies prevent him from being ambitious.
*CharacterDevelopment: Many of the characters are bound to receive this one way or another.
**As the main character, Marinette receives a ton of focus.
**After being eliminated early on in the Coumarine Showcase, Juleka is left to wonder what more she needs to do once she is noticed.
**Chloé is [[BreakTheHaughty due for one]] given that she’s lost all her onscreen battles and is dealing with a disobedient starter Pokémon. It is especially important [[spoiler: considering that she is to become a Miraculous hero in season two of the main series]].
*ChekhovsGun: The seemingly ordinary Key Stones Marinette and Adrien currently have? [[spoiler: They restored Ivan to his normal self, stripping him of Mega Evolution energy experimenting done on him by Team Akuma in Chapter 25.]]
*ChildProdigy: Adrien, being the son of Kalos Champion Gabriel Agreste.
*CrushBlush: Marinette’s default reaction around Adrien, often described to [[UpToEleven ridiculous levels]].
*CurbstompBattle: Marinette delivers one to [[AlphaBitch Chloé]] 3 to 0 in Chapter 27.
**Chloé was on the receiving end again with Sabrina in the Parfum Palace Tag Tournament, courtesy of Kim and Max.
*DistressedDude: Ivan, being the first known victim to Team Akuma. Doubles as a ShoutOut to the fact that he was chronologically the first Akumatized victim in Miraculous Ladybug.
*EpicFail: Chloé attempts to show off to Adrien during the informal Parfum Palace Tag Tournament that she was going to win, except that she didn’t and her match wounds up being described as the shortest one to date.
*EveryoneCanSeeIt: Marinette’s crush on Adrien was noted by Mylène and Ivan in Chapter 18. Lampshaded by Alya in the same chapter.
*ExcitedTitleTwoPartEpisodeName: How the chapter titles are written!
*{{Expy}}: Aside from Kalos being based from France, the author himself took the time to note strong similarities between the Miraculous Ladybug characters to Pokémon characters from both the games and the anime.
**Marinette is an expy of Serena (both game and anime), [[ClarkKenting Sina]], and May from Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire.
***Her Kwami turned starter Pokémon, Tikki, is a Ledyba who evolved into Ledian in the Shalour Gym in Chapter 23.
**Adrien is a combination of Calem, [[ObliviousToLove Ash]], [[ClarkKenting Dexio]], and Brendan from ORAS as well.
***His Kwami turned starter Pokémon, Plagg, started as a Purrloin and evolved into Liepard sometime before Chapter 25.
**Alya is a combination of [[BestFriend Shauna]] and [[IntrepidReporter Alexa]].
**Nino is Tierno in terms of being upbeat and instead of dancing, he focuses on music. Interesting enough, [[PerpetualFrowner Ivan]] shares Tierno’s huge build.
**Nathaniel is Trevor in terms of long red hair and [[TheQuietOne being generally quiet]].
**Alix is Korrina, a roller-blading {{Tomboy}} that, at least in this story, comes from a family of Mega Evolution users.
*FriendlyRivalry: Marinette becomes one for Adrien because she CannotSpitItOut while they were in Lumiose Academy.
**Adrien and Nino.
**Pretty much everyone in their class aiming for the Kalos League, sans Chloé.
*{{Jerkass}}: Chloé, nuff said.
**Lila is rather downplayed, but the author confirmed that her and Marinette’s rivalry was bound to match the intensity of Ash and Paul’s rivalry.
*KickTheSonOfABitch: Chloé’s starter Pokémon, Servine, showed signs of disobedience during her [[CurbstompBattle one-sided battle against Marinette]], ultimately leading to her loss.
*LoveTriangle: More like love rectangle once the alter egos made their debut.
**Played straight between Marinette and Lila, becoming a love rival on top of regular rival, for Adrien.
*MacGuffin: The special Key Stones, labeled as the Earrings of Xerneas and the Ring of Yveltal by Master Fu, Marinette and Adrien receive from a source anonymous (again by Fu) to them by the end of Chapter 21. It turns out that they have [[ChekhovsGun another use outside of initiating Mega Evolution]] as seen in Chapter 25 upon taking on Team Akuma under their superhero alias.
*MamaBear: Marinette in regards to [[AdorablyPrecociousChild Togepi]], the youngest member of her team.
*MeaningfulName: The title of the story itself is a combination of elements between Miraculous Ladybug and Pokémon.
*ObliviousToLove: Said to be an InformedAttribute of Adrien, but given his [[ParentalNeglect background]], it might be justified. However, it’s still somewhat averted as he is still a ChickMagnet in-universe and is aware of his fans.
*PaperThinDisguise: Unlike the main series where their costumes were produced by magic, Marinette and Adrien had to acquire their superhero costumes on their own and find opportunities to change without others finding out. But given that this is the [[JustifiedTrope Pokemon universe]], no one can really tell it’s them under the masks. They make Team Rocket proud.
*PungeonMaster: Adrien, as Liepard Noir, tosses out Pokémon puns instead of regular puns, which still induces a LamePunReaction for Lady Ledian, aka Marinette. Strangely enough, he tossed out a few Poképuns as himself early on in the story. Marinette’s reaction towards Adrien, however, appears to zigzag between groans and girlish giggles.
*RedOniBlueOni: Zigzagged. Marinette is the emotional Red Oni to Adrien’s reserved Blue Oni. However, Lady Ledian is the collected Blue Oni compared to the reckless Red Oni that is Liepard Noir.
*RunningGag: A notable one is Marinette forgetting to ask Adrien for his phone number whenever they meet up, but [[ClarkKenting for good reason]]. Sure she could’ve gotten it from Alya, who has it, but [[StalkerWithACrush Marinette would rather not have any sort of evidence implicate her]].
*RuleOfThree: Alya committed three transgressions, albeit unintentionally, to Marinette [[spoiler: prior to them going their separate ways in Chapter 30, which provided plenty of friction in their big fight]].
**The first was in Chapter 24 when Alya ditched Marinette in Shalour City to go to Geosenge Town when Team Akuma attacked, endangering herself for the sake of a scoop. To be fair, it did give Marinette the opportunity to change into Lady Ledian and fight.
**The second was at Lila’s introduction in Chapter 26.
**The third was Alya suddenly announcing her leaving Marinette to intern in Lumiose Press by the end of Chapter 29. Her timing couldn’t be more horrible and [[KickTheDog Marinette had such a good day too]].
*ShipTease: Outside of the expected Marinette/Adrien pairing, Alya and Nino had their moments when their class reunited to have a tag team tournament in Parfum Palace.
*ShoutOut: This fic has given plenty of them towards most of the Pokémon anime episodes in addition to reusing elements from Miraculous Ladybug. However, there are a few other pop culture references scattered about.
**The first chapter features a flashback on how [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe Marinette fell for Adrien]]. It mentions them [[ItsNotWhatItLooksLike having a rocky start because of Chloé]], just like in the Origins episode of Miraculous Ladybug.
**Alya mentions how Adrien is “as unaware as a Slowpoke with a Sharpedo gnawing on his tail” in Chapter 22. This references Pokémon Sun & Moon Episode 5, which has an exact scene of the aforementioned.
**The methods that Team Akuma is said to use to corrupt, control, and strengthen Trainers and their Pokémon is through Mega Evolution energy and the Bond Phenomenon, which was a power exclusive between Ash and his Greninja in the anime.
**In Chapter 28, a Pokémon Performer makes her appeal in the Theme Performance with [[WesternAnimation/DuckTales “Scrooge]] [[{{Pun}} McDucklett.”]] Sadly, she didn’t qualify for the Freestyle Performance.
**The author makes a reference to Sun & Moon Episode 15 using a metaphor tying back to Rockruff’s “unique training” with Ash in Chapter 29.
**Chapter 30: [[Series/MontyPythonsFlyingCircus Were you expecting the Kalosian Inquisition?]] [[AscendedMeme “Nobody expects the Kalosian Inquisition!”]]
*TechnicianVersusPerformer: In general, Marinette is the Performer to Adrien’s Technician. But in their hero costumes, Lady Ledian focuses more on tactics while Liepard Noir, despite being [[InformedAttribute highly educated on Pokémon moves and abilities]], is more bold and reckless in his battle style.
