Retreating from them and even plugging his ears does absolutely nothing to lessen their damage. But then he gets the idea to use his {{Hammerspace}} -- when one sonic grenade gets chucked his way, he lashes his tail at it, not to destroy it or slap it away, but ''absorb'' it. Given the [[YearInsideHourOutside stasis-like]] nature of Tails' {{Hammerspace}}, he gets a day or two to dispose of it before it blows up.
