SISBI is a ForWantOfANail story asking what if, instead of gaining One For All, Izuku saw an ad looking for a Quirkless person to be part of Project: Indestructible posted by Mei Hatsume.

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: In-universe, Rei (Shouto's mother and Endeavor's wife) was the high school sweetheart of Mei's father before she married Endeavor. As fans of the manga already know, she was pressured into a quirk marriage and forced to watch her children be emotionally abused to create the perfect hero. Mei's father, Blacksmith, is at least somewhat aware of Endeavor's abuse of his family. Mei on the other hand only sees a woman who broke her father's heart to be a gold-digger who married Endeavor for his greater wealth and fame. As such, her grudge against Todoroki Shouto is as much about revenge on Rei as it is revenge on Endeavor.

* EyeScream: Tsu beats Bakugou in part by spitting weak acid into his eyes.

* FailedAttemptAtDrama: [[spoiler: All For One decides to talk to Izuku and Mei, waxing on about One For All and All Might and how they're the real bad guys, particularly after Izuku admits All Might offered him the Quirk. Then AFO tries to drop a bombshell and addresses his brother, the first bearer of One For All directly. Small problem, though, in that Izuku never accepted OFA, thus doesn't have AFO's brother's spirit inside him, meaning AFO didn't drop a bombshell, he just confused them and made his position seem weaker.]]

* FanGirl: Mei is one of scientists, with her being particularly fond of [[UsefulNotes/NeildeGrasseTyson Neil deGrasse Tyson]]. However, she doesn't like Thomas Edison, since he stole several of his most famous inventions and killed animals to make a point.

** In chapter 18, Mei finds out [[AbusiveParents Endeavor beats his kids]] and this causes her to realize that Endeavor's sins are not Shouto's to bear. Though her opinion of Rei Todorki remains unchanged.

* HumansAreFlawed: Each and every character, no matter how nice they are, have some flaw in some shape or form. The most common is {{Pride}} but {{Lust}} isn't uncommon either.

** Played with. Mei's rebuttal to Shoto's self-pity towards [[spoiler: losing his Quirk is true in the sense that Izuku has already proven that quirkless does not equate to useless. [[BothSidesHaveAPoint However, Shoto is right in that it's not the same]]; Izuku never had a quirk to begin with and as such would not understand suddenly losing something that you have possessed since you were four. Additionally most, if not all, quirkless people likely never had to deal with an abusive parent who raised them to beat [[TheCape All Might]]]].
** While the decision that Todoroki was the real winner of the tournament was unpopular, and several characters do take offense to this (claiming that UA has a vested interest in making sure Quirked people stay in power... though how much of that is serious and how much of it is UnreliableNarrator is up to personal judgement), they do have a point that since the Indestructible armor was delivered to the ring ''after'' the match started, which was made pretty blatant by Mei, that ''does'' count as outside interference which was made explicitly clear was against the rules. ''[[ZigzaggedTrope However]]'', the backlash would not have been as severe had UA actually disqualified Izuku from the start instead of [[HopeSpot allowing him to fight with the armor]] just so they could wrap up the Sports Festival with an epic GrandFinale. After revealing that they weren't planning on letting Izuku win, no matter the outcome, the announcement comes across as less following the rules and more as a needlessly petty KickTheDog moment on UA's part. So in short, while Izuku could not have won due to outside interference and UA was within their rules to say that he was disqualified, the critics are ''also'' right in that UA handled it badly.

* WrongGenreSavvy: [[spoiler: All for One assumes that Izuku accepted All Might's offer of the One for All quirk and makes a complete fool of himself trying to address the remnants of his brother within it. This is despite knowing that Project Indestructible's M.O. revolves around Izuku not having a quirk.]]

** One moment Izuku is just fine but as soon as Mei says that it was "good" [[spoiler: that Shoto has his Quirk erased, putting a stop to Endeavor's plans]], he promptly loses his shit.

** Izuku arrives just in time to save Iida, Mei and Todoroki from Stain in Chapter 19. Downplayed as Todoroki was faring pretty well on his own but Stain was clearly toying with him.

* BloodKnight: Izuku and Tsuyu actually bond over getting a rush from fighting for their lives and use any means necessary to manipulate their parents in allowing them to stay on the field.

** Played with in chapter 21. Izuku does forgive Mei for her actions the previous chapter and brings up how she's been a terrible person all throughout the story. However, Mei also gave Izuku Indestructible after fixing it up, sent him the blueprints to maintain it and tearfully broke down in front of him. It ultimately takes him remembering how awful it was exposing Bakugou was in the Sports Festival to forgive her.

* GagPenis: Izuku is apparently quite... gifted. Ojiro claims Bakugou dislikes Izuku out of jealousy and is seen telling Kaminari and Mineta that it's bigger than Mineta and that if it had one of its own, Bakugou would still be jealous. During the Training Camp arc, the boys see it and are left feeling inadequate (and Ojiro wins a bet with Mineta over it).

** Kouta attempts the canon groin punch on Izuku... only to hurt his hand because Izuku had started wearing protection after being hit in the groin by Bakugou previously.

* IHaveBoobsYouMustObey: Izuku is asked by Hagakure if she can borrow his electric gauntlet while pressing up against his backside in her full superhero outfit. Her full superhero outfit, for those who have forgotten, is nothing but a pair of gloves and sneakers, since she's invisible. Izuku mentally claims that he would have given her his own internal organs if she'd asked him to at that point.

* MadScientist: As in canon, Mei is pretty much a high-school age mad scientist.

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Tsu beats Bakugou in the sports festival... which isn't good for Project: Indestructable, as their marketing campaign ''heavily'' hyped up a match between Izuku and Bakugou as one of the selling points. Oops.
* NoodleIncident: Izuku refused to talk about his first kiss, after he reveals that Recovery Girl's was his second.
* NotSoDifferentRemark: After the Sports Festival, Inko is quick to draw parallels between Mei and Bakugou and how they treated Izuku. This is nearly enough to make Mei have a HeelRealization especially considering this is after she [[{{Jerkass}} threatened]] [[BadBoss firing Izuku]] [[RevengeBeforeReason for being friends with Todoroki]] but see PoorCommunicationKills...

* UnreliableNarrator: Discussed and deconstructed. As it turns out Blacksmith wasn't all that great a person in the Todoroki debacle and thanks to deliberately omitting information, he made it look like he was a better person then he was. It was because of this that Mei grew up hating the Todorokis.
* WhamEpisode: Chapter 28 is essentially the DarkestHour of the story. [[spoiler: Kirishima's Quirk finally evolves but because he's under the effects of Mustard's Quirk, he ends up taking out a good portion of the students, a couple of pro heroes and takes a bite out of Vlad King's shoulder. Mr. Compress successfully captures Power Loader, Tokoyami and Bakugou. And then there's '''[[TheDreaded Toga]]'''. She ends up transforming into Kaminari and frying the Indestructible armor with Izuku in it. The chapter ends with her reassuming her cover ''whatever it is''. There's also the fact that she meets Hatsume, the other object of her affections, and we don't [[NothingIsScarier see the end result of their meeting]]]].

* WhatTheHellHero: Aizawa is on the receiving end of this in chapter 23 after he partners up Midoriya with Bakugou. You know, the kid that has just been outed as being [[TheBully Midoriya's tormentor]] for the better part of a decade. Aizawa's excuse of "You need to know how to work with people you don't like," isn't given any credit.

* XanatosGambit: Mei may have caused one ''unintentionally'' in the Sports Festival. After dropping the armor, UA has two choices they can make; 1) disqualify Izuku for outside interference... but that would mean the Sports Festival ends on a lose by default which is a lackluster ending to an already lackluster festival and 2) allow Izuku to fight in the armor. Regardless of who wins the match, Project: Indestructible gets free advertising and data on how to improve the suit. There's another layer to this depending on who wins the match. If Todoroki wins, then it doesn't matter but if Izuku wins, not only does the suit get advertising and data but he also proves what Project: Indestructible set out it to do in the first place; that you don't need a Quirk to be a hero. Disqualifying Izuku just increased Indestructible's already sizable fanbase and painted UA in a negative light.

* ArchEnemy: Bakugou is Izuku's, and Mei considers Todoroki her's due to his father Endeavor and mother Rei.

* NotSoDifferent: After the Sports Festival, Inko is quick to draw parallels between Mei and Bakugou and how they treated Izuku. This is nearly enough to make Mei have a HeelRealization especially considering this is after she [[{{Jerkass}} threatened]] [[BadBoss firing Izuku]] [[RevengeBeforeReason for being friends with Todoroki]] but see PoorCommunicationKills...

* TranquilFury: Rei [[spoiler: kills overhaul by freezing his limbs off without raising her voice. Turns out attacking her son and nurse were a ''very'' bad idea]].

* RealityEnsues: PlayedForLaughs. As Midoriya finds out, having sex with someone who has SuperStrength in their legs is very painful.

* BiTheWay:
** According to Mei, Izuku thinks 'bananas and strawberries taste the same'. He has ShipTease with both Mei and Tsuyu and got a hand job by Hagakure. He's also ''heavily'' implied to have been in a relationship with Bakugou when they were kids and his reaction to Bakugou's apology is written as a break-up.

** Chapter 52 references [=IllMadeKnight=]'s other [=HeroAca=] story, ''Fanfic/BloodSexSugarMagic'', by mentioning that Nana Shimura killed a monster named Ikari who preyed on children. In BSSM, Ikari ran an OrphanageOfFear that shaped its versions of Stain, Shigaraki, Toga, and others.

* OhCrap: Overhaul when he finds out that attacking Rei after she has been informed he just attacked her son was a ''very'' bad idea.

* {{Nanomachines}}: Mei injects Izuku with these in an attempt to allow him to become Indestructible in seconds.

** Todoroki gets to pilot the Ignite armor after [[spoiler: BeingBroughtDownToBadass]]. It is pretty much exactly the same as Indestructible except it has [[PlayingWithFire flamethrowers]] instead of [[ShockAndAwe electrocution]]... and a cooler design.

* OnlySaneMan: Mei seems to be a combination of her canon self and [[VideoGame/{{Portal}} Cave Johnson]] at her worst times, leaving Izuku as the unfortunate soul to ground her. It's made especially clear when some of her more jerkass behavior asserts itself, or when she announces to the media that "Reality is an illusion made by the Lizard People."

* PoweredArmor: What Project: Indestructible is. So far its gonna have SuperStrength, SuperSpeed, and be able to find weak spots in opponents with Sagan aiding him in controlling the armor.
