* ThirteenIsUnlucky: Jon Snow is stabbed by Janos Slynt in Chapter 13.

* TheChick: Sansa has fully become this to Robb's forces, serving as a medic and persuading Aeron Greyjoy to join Robb.

* ContrivedCoincidence: An attack on Castle Black occurs simultaneously with Jon being forced to execute [[spoiler:Ygritte]], giving [[spoiler:her]] time to escape. [[FromBadToWorse Then, a White Walker shows up]]. Thankfully, Jon kills it. He also captured Mance Rayder in the attack on Castle Black, [[AsskickingEqualsAuthority which proves that]] [[YouAreInCommandNow he is worthy to be Lord Commander]].

* DownerEnding: [[spoiler:Daenerys's storyline, which ends in a KillEmAll.]]

* KillEmAll: By Chapter 21, House Bolton is extinguished; Roose Bolton is killed by Robb and Ramsay by Arya.

* AdultFear: Catelyn returns from her mission to the Vale to learn that Arya is missing.

** [[spoiler:Ser Gregor Clegane]] reappears as a member of the Kingsguard.

* TraumaCongaLine: The entire story is this for Daenerys [[spoiler: In her first chapter the slave masters retake control of Mereen and Dany is captured and imprisoned by them. Then she is paraded through the city naked and in chains (though she manages to maintain her composure) before being whipped and forced to watch as one of her handmaidens Jhiqui is hanged. Then Irri her other handmaiden is hanged and she has to beg her jailer to give her a decent funeral. Things start to look up as at her own execution Drogon sweeps in to save her just as she was about to be beheaded and she meets up with her surviving followers. But of course she goes to Asshai and sees her surviving followers killed by Melisandre before being murdered herself with her last thoughts apologizing to her family on how she failed them all]] This fic was not kind to Dany.

* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler:Once the Silent Warrior foils Cersei’s attempt to poison Tommen, all Cersei can do is first DeathGlare, then scream and protest as she’s led away.]]

* RealityEnsues: You know all that stuff about the Iron Islands being unable to hold large parts of land for very long? [[CurbStompBattle Guess what happens]] when Robb Stark marches back north and starts [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge taking down their conquests one by one]].

* RealityEnsues: Similar to how the Starks' problem of having a TokenEvilTeammate, the Bloodseekers run into a problem when one of them is a TokenGoodTeammate when [[spoiler:Eldon Lefford kills Quentys and Draqos and frees Margaery.]]

* RuleOfThree: Jaqen H’ghar predicts three dangers for Gendry and Arya to escape.

* GoneHorriblyWrong: The entirety of Daenerys’ plotline.

* IronicHell: [[spoiler:Cersei becoming a Septa, considering her loose sexuality and dismissive attitude towards religion. It’s also ironic due to Cersei’s troubles with the Faith in the books and show.]]
