** Canonically, Horcruxes protect against death from any means, including old age, albeit reducing one to a wraith were one to be mortally injured. In this story, they only protect against unnatural death, and the soul fragment will disappear when the body dies of old age. This leads to the bizarre conclusion that Dumbledore actually benefits from being repeatedly killed, since it slows down his aging. (Despite this, Horcruxes are also stronger in some respects because they can bring someone back to life even when the body lost its soul to a Dementor.)

* AdaptationalVillainy:
** This fic's version of Dumbledore is an evil mastermind, while Snape is an utter bastard who enjoys torturing people. Less prominently, Filch is Dumbledore's one-man CleanupCrew and Moody (who canonically went out of his way to bring suspects in alive even after Aurors were authorized to use lethal force) is his personal assassin.
** The Dursleys are said to be far more abusive to Harry than they ever were in canon, doing things like running him over with Vernon's car, starving him for weeks on end and forcing him to drink rubbing alcohol (which is said to be why Harry needs glasses). It's said that this left him so brutalized and malnourished that he resembled a concentration camp inmate.
** Lucius Malfoy and the Lestrange brothers are said to be child molesters, with Lucius in particular [[ParentalIncest being more interested in Draco than his wife]]. While they did plenty of terrible things in canon, there's no indication that they ever committed any sex crimes.
** Unlike the BlueAndOrangeMorality they had in canon, goblins are said to be [[AlwaysChaoticEvil a race of dishonest, malevolent sadists]] who cheat their clients, rip off the dwarves, kidnap and torture human children, and cannibalize one another.
** While the Dementors were generally unpleasant in the original books, they're shown to have far less restraint here, with one attempting to [[YourSoulIsMine Kiss]] Harry for apparently no reason beyond simply wanting to do so.

** While the Soviet Union was a totalitarian state with a terrible human rights record, it didn't have the OrionDrive banned out of petty anger at having lost UsefulNotes{{the Space Race}}, as Ornstead claims. Rather, the ban was because of the very real risk of nuclear catastrophe if something went wrong.

* UngratefulBastard: Harry in Chapter 2. He complains to Dumbedore that he never helped him, because he keeps Snape as a teacher, even though Dumbledore helps save him from the Dementor in this very chapter.
