The stories main departure stems from two events which changes the path that Lelouch vi Britannia and Kallen Stadtfeld walk on. This leads to Lelouch staying in Britannia instead of being exiled, while Kallen watches as her family is murdered in front of her during the invasion of Japan.

Where he speaks rudely to her, accuses her falsely of being a slut, and threatens to cut her off just for refusing to break her loyalty to Lelouch. Which leads her to disown him and her whole family.
* JerkassFacade: Kallen in regards to her interactions with Lelouch in the earlier chapters, this becomes Subverted in the later chapters between the two. Though she still has her moments of this in regards to her interactions with other characters, especially with Cadron and C.C.

Subverted in that [[spoiler: C.C tells Kallen that Marianne basically just used a simple sword technique and no one realised this.]] Also DeconstructedTrope in that by using it, she accidently gets Lelouch interested in her, which strengthens when he finds a picture of her and Marianne together in a bar. Which leads him to remembering hearing an argument between the two a few months before Marianne’s death.
* ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem: Lelouch and Euphemia take this stance once they become Viceroy and Sub-Viceroy of Area 11. Desiring that the rules that Clovis enforced for Area 11 are changed to benefit both Britannia and Japan for the better.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: Lelouch and Euphemia adhere to this at all times. They put this to full use once they arrive in Area 11 and start changing the rule that Clovis and Kewell have been running there for a while.
* ShadowArchetype: Lelouch and Zero are this for each other. Both want to see Britannia changed, both are passionate in their goals and aims. Where they differ is in while Lelouch is idealist in how he feels about Britannia and what he is trying to do. Zero on the other feels that Britannia needs to be torn asunder for a better country to arise.

* SpotOfTea: Hugely and hilariously Subverted. Lelouch is a coffee addict as chapter 27 shows clearly. See MustHaveCaffeine above.

* AlternateContinuity: Pretty much the ripple effects that stem from Lelouch telling the Emperor to go and shove it have resulted in a world in which Knightmare Frame development has lagged, Kallen’s family is dead, and Britannia is still being plagued by Zero.

* BetaCouple: Suzaku and Euphemia are one, since their relationship is hassle-free and has no complications when compared to Lelouch and Kallen’s relationship.
* BigBrotherInstinct: As usual Lelouch to Nunnally, which tends to be UpToEleven when she is around Rai.
* BigDamnHeroes: Though you can make a concerted effort by arguing that it’s more zig-zagged as a trope than anything, Lelouch’s Army Group vi Britannia’s actions in rescuing Britannian forces trapped at Mogadishu.

* BrilliantButLazy: A ZigZagged example with Rai. It is hinted at times that Rai is this when he is at Ashford Academy studying, where he seems to spend more time resting than studying. Though he subverts this when he is doing his duties for Zero.

* ForWantOfANail: Two examples, first one in being Lelouch this time stands up to his father when confronting him. The other involves Kallen losing her family in the prologue. Leading her to become Zero.
* GeneralFailure: Kewell is a good example, every battle that he commands his troops in leads to him, making mistakes, losing a load of troops to Zero. Along with eventually resulting in him [[spoiler: Chapter Sixteen getting burnt badly by Zero, resulting in his disgrace and eventual trial, as informed by Jeremiah as he is recovering.]]
* GloryHound: Kewell is mainly one, as he isn’t out to destroy Zero and his group for Britannia and it’s people. He’s doing it mainly to move up the Noble Caste in Britannia. This comes back to bite him in the ass later on.
* GuiltComplex: Caedron has quite the chip on his shoulders in regards to guilt. Though it’s understandable considering he used to be [[spoiler: One of the four horsemen for Emperor Charles that involved doing many illicit activities on the Geass Order’s behalf.]]
* HumbleHero: In comparison to canon, Lelouch is this in Ice and Fire. With chapter 27 showing greatly just how humble he is to his men.
* ICanStillFight: Caedron,even with death staring him in the face with his cancer, epitomizes this trope.
* IfYouEverDoAnythingToHurtHer: Subtle Example in Chapter 11, when Caedron is talking to Lelouch, he tells him of how he used to be in the Rangers. Where he reminds Lelouch of how zealous they are when it comes to one of their own.
* IWantGrandKids: Marianne is quite peculiar in telling Charles that she wants Lelouch and Kallen to start popping grandkids out as soon as possible.
* ImprobableAge: Quite a few characters in the fic fit this description, with Lelouch, Kallen, Euphemia being the most prominent examples. Though justified due to their many talents, on Lelouch and Euphemia’s side their bloodline. Also Kallen has an experienced adviser aiding her campaign against Britannia.
* InSpiteOfANail: Despite the changes mentioned in WhatIf and ForWantOfANail entries. We still see Suzaku getting the Lancelot and meeting Euphemia, Lelouch going to Japan, getting the Gawain. Sayoko being Nunnally's caretaker. Along with other examples as well.

It is now 2018 a.t.b. and Lelouch has become a high-ranking general for Britannia, achieving for himself many victories and a growing power base within Britannia in his secret climb for the throne. Meanwhile, Kallen has grown up into a Countess, attending Ashford Academy in preparation for assuming her father’s role as the CEO of the Stadtfeld Consortium, one of the industry leaders in Area 11. But beneath the icy exterior she shows to the world lies the all too vulnerable soul of a woman obsessed with vengeance and bringing justice to this cold, cruel world.
