Their Mansion is made to destroy itself and the entire team save for Mari Captain America is depowered and captured in less than twenty minutes. * WarIsHell: The Chicago division of Stingray Industries held, and the President was evacuated during the assault on D.C., but these actions cost blood, and '''a lot''' of it. The narration makes it clear that both Maria and Mari (who have hefty memories of UsefulNotes/WorldWarII, the former doubly so because she ''fought'' on the War) are having flashbacks of battles fought in it with the devastation that they see.

* [[ForgotAboutHisPowers Forgot About Her Powers]]: Mari doesn't use many of the spells and abilities she's shown to have elsewhere, such as the Happo Satsu or some of her summons. And even things she does use, such as her D-Materia, she seems to forget about just in time for her to struggle and fail against anything other than Mooks.

** The story is also set up so that Mari completely fails to defeat anything more than low-level grunts, only managing to assist other characters in defeating their foes. The one time it looks like she might defeat an EliteMook, the kill is stolen by Captain Vincennes. All the while she suffers from massive injuries and repeated failures.

* IronButtMonkey: Mari's purpose in this story. Often, it feels like the only reason she's even there is to be put through the wringer and be made to suffer for everyone's enjoyment.
* ItsAllMyFault: Cap Mari feels a great deal of guilt over [[spoiler: the destruction of her team's Avengers Mansion, as well as them being either captured or MIA.]]
