* FridgeLogic: With Earth suddenly finding itself in the larger and potentially hostile [=BattleTech=] universe and thus badly in need of being able to put up a unified front, it's only natural that virtually everybody at once should decide to withdraw from and thereby disband the United Nations...wait, what?

** Quite possibly also the casual disbanding -- by means of the spontaneous-looking withdrawal of ''over a hundred members at once'' -- of the United Nations for reasons of being "no longer capable of representing the needs of the world given our new position in the galaxy at large". What's supposed to do a better job, then? A new, untried organization called the Coalition of Sovereign Nations whose purpose is to deal almost solely with ''external'' matters (i.e. the BT universe) while keeping its nose out of its member nations' internal affairs even more than the UN already did. Frankly, UnfortunateImplications abound here.

(Note that the same argument could be applied to the actual individual ''nations'' of Earth as well, but ''that'' subject somehow doesn't come up.)

* CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming: One of the things the various space agencies do is take some of their Astronauts (or equivalents) to the Moon. This includes the crew of Apollo 13, with Eugene Kranz being CapCom. The only one missing is Jack Swigert...

* MeleeATois: GDI comes to Antallos to let Vorax know what they thought about his little stunt. The next day, notorious pirate Redjack Ryan shows up looking demanding the coordinates to Motherlode (a.k.a. Earth). The day after that, a Draconis Combine regiment shows up looking for Ryan, who burned his way across the Combine to get there. The day after ''that'', a Federated Suns RCT shows up tracking the Dracs. [[spoiler: Narrowly ''Averted'' due to some quick actions on GDI's part, and the fact that the Dracs and [=FedSuns=] forces break off to kick each other around instead.]]

A bubble centered on the Earth of TomClancy's Jack Ryan series, 100 light years in diameter, is deposited on the outer edges of the Inner Sphere, in the BattleTech universe. Almost five decades after the event, Earth is visited by strangers from the Inner Sphere of 3020, and they're not visiting peacefully.

* CrowningMomentofFunny: The pirates soon learn of Earth's tendency to hijack their mechs, in combat, with crazy infantry. Greene's highjacking of Natalie's Battlemaster is specially awesome and hilarious. The Discussion Thread is also rife with such things, when trying to deal with the real-life translations of what the rules imply.

* CrazyAwesome: Tony Dansel is pretty much the embodiment of this trope. For example, during a fight where Dansel is outnumbered seven to one, a CNN intern comments that "He's good, but he's no Aidan Pryde." Aidan Pryde is mentioned on this site's Battletech page as being CrazyAwesome. Then, when Dansel proceeds to [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome win,]] the intern reverently wispers;

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: During the second pirate attack on [[TomClancy CEarth]], this is the reaction held by a mercenary group, comprised entirely of Muslims, when they realize they have killed fellow Muslims, and the city they were planning on attacking is Mecca, the most holy city in the Islamic religion. This prompts an ''immediate'' HeelFaceTurn and they gladly fight off other attackers in a combination of HeroicSacrifice, YouShallNotPass, and LastStand. They would have been completely wiped out, with the leader dying in his cockpit of heat stroke, if the locals, moved by their resistance, did not gladly pull him out of the cockpit, which was hot enough that one old rescuer himself died of heat stroke from merely ''standing'' near it once the cockpit was finally opened. In a bit of a TearJerker, the old man had prayed to God to let him die instead of the mercenary leader. His prayer was, apparently, answered.
