* ShownTheirWork: The authors actually did quite a bit of work studying in preparation for what was being written in story...[[DidNotDoTheResearch usually.]] In particular, badly damaged nuclear missiles don't go nuclear, especially not at full yield. And the effects of the four nuclear warheads that hit Earth in the first battle have MUCH worse effects than they realistically would--20 megaton nukes (Tsar Bomba was 50 megatons) should NOT do anywhere near that kind of damage, and the resulting tsunamis should not be able to somehow ignore physics and geography.

* BlatantLies: Adar, along with a lot of the top-tier Colonial leadership, ''LOVES'' this trope. Sometimes it even dips into blatant InsaneTrollLogic territory. One (out of many) notable instances is Adar's answer to a press conference question, where he states that the Tau'ri ships "fired first...without provocation"--while stating in that same answer that the 200-ship Colonial [[MeaningfulName Crusade Fleet]] jumped within lunar orbit of Earth and declared their intent to conquer it before any shots were fired, and that the Crusade Fleet heard and intentionally ignored repeated warnings that they were violating Earth space and had 20 seconds to reverse course or be fired upon. [[SarcasmMode None of that, of course, counts as provocation in any way whatsoever.]]

** Also, only one Earth Ship, the ''Apollo,'' was destroyed, so it was more like only 16 to 17 percent. To make matters worse, part of the reason it was destroyed was because it was incomplete.

** Also, only one Earth Ship, the ''Apollo,'' was destroyed, so it was more like only 16 to 17 percent. To make matters worse, part of the main reason it was destroyed (or rather, the Colonials' attempts to destroy it were successful) was because it was incomplete.incomplete. One of the other seriously damaged ships was also incomplete, and suffered much of its damage because of that. Adar later states that, in the [[spoiler: attack on the Picon shipyards]], two or three Tau'ri ships were destroyed--but leaves out that those "ships" were just a few F302's (which are actually "craft", not "ships"). Curiously, in this case, it's unclear if Adar was just plain lying in an attempt to improve morale (implying that two-three capital ships were destroyed) or lying about the fact that the "ships" destroyed were in fact "craft" (fighters), and just mixed up the numbers of craft destroyed and pilots killed.

* HumansThroughAlienEyes: [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3546854/16/Reunions_are_a_Bitch Chapter 16]] could be considered an essay on the subject, and is one of downright hilarious, as the most accurate examples ever seen.Colonials are mainly basing their speculation and conclusions off of fictional material, and are incapable of distinguishing fiction from nonfiction. In particular, they believe the events of Star Trek (the original series and Next Generation, at least) as likely accurate, and Earth's present lack of colonies and ships is because they were nearly wiped out, or devastated, sometime in the past.

* KnightTemplar: A lot of the Colonials could qualify as this, or at least the guys in charge.

to:

* MoralDissonance: The Colonials' idea of liberation [[http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=206 is a little bit different]] from that of most people. In particular, they seem to think that a great way to liberate the population of Earth is by launching hundreds of large nukes at its surface. And when that doesn't work very well, ''do it again.''

** The Tau'ri, actually, to the Colonials. However, countering the typical effects of this trope is the fact that Earth has so little of their high tech assets, and little capability to make more of it quickly. For a little while, at least.

The story, as much as I like it, has more serious grammatical errors than I can count, and it\'s pretty much ever-present. It\'s pretty decently written aside from that, though. As for realism, it\'s NOT one of the most realistic (even for SG and BSG), but it\'s kind of high up there.

# It is an extremely good [[{{Doorstopper}} and extremely long]] read.
# It is one of the most realistic fics on the 'net--relatively speaking, given the existing BSG and SG canons being worked with.

* You Fail Logic Forever: Contrast the (real life) upwelling of support the America received after 9/11 (including none other then Fidel Castro - yes ''that FidelCastro'') with the calls for O'Neill to be charged with war crimes. Also, none of Earths scholars of Greek religion thought that it was rather suspicious a society that worshiped the Classical gods was starting a religious crusade, making them TooDumbToLive.
* YouFailReligiousStudiesForever: The polytheistic Colonials cover story to their own population is perhaps the worst one possible - the average Colonial citizen ''would not have cared'' that Earth was worshiping other gods and would have reacted to Aldar's announcement with incomprehension and disbelief. It also show a profound ignorance of Colonial society (then again, [[TrollFic perhaps that was the point]])- the rest of the colonies find the Sagittarons attitude towards modern medicine annoying, but they don’t bother to force their own views on them. Same with the Gemenon. There is no evidence that any other planets aside from Capricia persecuted monotheists. Not to mention the decision to allow Cult of Baltar to practice freely - and that's ''after'' the cylon genocide that killed all but 50 thousand out of twenty billion. To put it in perspective, imagine if the 9/11 attack killed all but 700 about of a popluation of 280 million, and a handful of the survivors converted to Islam. How well would said converts would be treated?
** Indeed. If anything the rabid anti-monotheism would have made far more sense in a pre-cylon war fic, given what we see in Caprica.

The Asgard not blowing themselves to kingdom come, but rather uploading their minds into several giant supercomputers so that they can unravel and rebuild their own genetic structure, a process that will take centuries.

** Indeed. If anything the rabid anti-monotheism would have made far more sense in a pre-cylon war fic, given what we see in Caprica.

I guess he/she gave up.

* CharacterDerailment: ''And how.'' Cain, despite not undergone the shock of finding out that her lover was a cylon spy who helped them nuke the twelve colonies, has somehow become a GeneralRipper. The cylons themselves get one, as they consider negotiation with the newcomers almost right away, when in the series it took them until the episode “Downloaded” (sometime between days 189 and 270) for them to be willing to try an approach that did not boil down to KillAllHumans. Adar gets hit as well. In the series, the worst action he commits is sending troops to Aerilon which results in an incident where fifteen people are killed, an incident he privately regrets. In the fic, he's a manic.

* IdiotPlot: The Colonial's "cover story" that they were invading Earth to convert the population is abysmally bad. There are far better ones, such as Colonials wanting to stop Earth's AI reaserched, or even better, the Colonials being fooling into thinking that Earth is under Cylon occupation. See YouFailReligiousStudiesForever below.
