This one seemed pretty popular from what I have seen.

Added DiffLines:

** Duncan's cameo is pretty well liked, because he actually refuses to go along with Chris's nonsense(Chris brought him back because he "owed camera time" from skipping out on World Tour). He also isn't involved in a romantic plot, keeping him likeable. Duncan also ends the his time on the episode by blowing up Mount Chrismore, giving Chris a much needed kick to the pants.

* Katie is surprisingly popular despite being the fifth contestant out and not getting any focus outside of her friendship with Sadie. This is probably due to her being very kind and attractive, which makes her more popular than Sadie (who had a few Jerkass moments despite being very kind overall) even though they are more or less the same character. Sadly, this was not enough to ever get her back as a contestant.

* DJ had no focus or plotline of his own in the first season (despite making it pretty far), and was eliminated before the halfway point in the second and third seasons, but he does have a pretty good-sized fanbase on account of being one of the nicest characters in the series and his occasional moments of genuine badassery in the first two seasons (like overcoming his fear of water or standing up to Chef for forcing him into an illegal alliance).

Noah didn't become a Breakout Character until Ridonc which is a whole different show. an Ensemble Darkhorse becoming an Ascended Extra later on does not disqualify them from being an esemble darkhorse at the time of debut with many examples in other works included. Geoff is still a supporting character at best, which can count for this trope.

His status is lampshaded by Chris, who introduces him and Cody as "returning favorites" in the first episode of World Tour. Actually, all of these seem to be complaining about how these characters were handled in this season. The point of an Ensemble Darkhorse is that the character must have little to no role in the plot, yet still be inexplicably popular. Bridgette, DJ and the rest of Team Victory already had established fanbases before World Tour since they all had arcs and went through Character Development in the previous seasons. None of them fit this trope.

* Team Victory in general could be considered this, being made up of several of the most popular contestants from previous seasons. Many were not amused by the "no victory for Team Victory" RunningGag that dragged out for half a season and annoyed by how the team itself solely existed for the purpose of being fodder eliminations, thus rendering the very interesting idea of having three teams in the season completely pointless. The fact that this ended up being the final season of competing for most of the team members was only salt in the wound for their fans.
** Bridgette gained this status because of this season, being the third eliminated. Already a fan favorite from Island for being very likeable and beautiful, she kept receiving the short end of the stick this time round, making her TheWoobie. She was the only girl who had her existing relationship seriously impacted by Alejandro's manipulative charms, she had one of the most humiliating eliminations of being stuck to a pole, and even in the Aftermaths, she got a lot of flak from Blaineley, who even had her sent to Siberia. Many were also disappointed that she ended up becoming the first female contestant eliminated for the second time in a rowfor comparison, Ezekiel is the only other contestant to be the first of their gender eliminated more than once and had wanted her to make it much further after her very poor performance in Action. After 2 seasons as a fodder elimination, plenty of fans want Bridgette to get the big comeback they feel she deserves.
** DJ, another major fan favorite in Island for being a major NiceGuy, gained this status thanks to this season. Many saw him as TheWoobie due to the misery his "animal curse" plot brought to him, and were very disappointed by how it severely weakened his performance as a competitor after he had done amazingly in Island and quit early to keep his integrity in Action. At the season's halfway point, he became the final member of Team Victory eliminated, thanks to Alejandro, and fell OutOfFocus for good afterwards. Like with Bridgette, many fans are still hoping for him to be given another chance to prove himself again.

This reads more like a They Wasted A Perfectly Good Character example than an Ensemble Darkhorse one.

* Despite not participating, Trent became one in this season. A fan-favorite in Island for his friendly personality and sweet relationship with Gwen, many were disappointed by his run in Action and hoped for him to gain redemption afterwards. During World Tours time on air, he became one of the most heavily requested contestants to be brought back (second to Geoff at the time), with many saying his guitar skills would have made him a fantastic way to complement the musical elements of the season.

Noah getting a bigger role in later seasons makes him a Breakout Character, not an Ensemble Darkhorse. A character can't be a Base Breaking Character and an Ensemble Darkhorse at the same time. Harold has way too much screen time to be this trope. Moving Izzy to the Island folder, as that's the season where she debuted.

* Noah is incredibly popular with the fandom for his hilarious DeadpanSnarker demeanour, despite being introduced as one of the most minor contestants in the series (he was booted off third in the first season, wasn't even a contestant in the second, and got kicked out half-way in the third). His status is lampshaded by Chris, who introduces him and Cody as "returning favorites" in the first episode of World Tour. He later goes on to become a BreakoutCharacter as of The Ridonculous Race, where he returns with Owen, and was given extended screentime and a lot more character focus, including the main romantic plot of the season.
* Eva. Despite being somewhat of a BaseBreakingCharacter, she still has a very loyal fanbase who wish to see her again. A significant portion of the fandom think of her as a wasted character, with lots of room for development, plot, and comedy. World Tour only added to her popularity with her "Ah, forget this!" RunningGag.
* Izzy is an undisputed fan favorite. Never a main character in a season, but continuously steals the show. Her CrazyAwesome comic relief style is the one thing that everyone can agree on is funny. Her moments are typically among the most memorable and she quite often ends up as the spotlight in a dull episode. She's actually a good contender for most universally loved character on the show, as it's near impossible to find someone who hates Izzy, with even immensely popular characters like Heather having some detractors somewhere.
* What really cemented the popularity for all three of the above characters was their alliance in the special first season finale. Despite their offputting personalities, they got along well and generally served as the most competent alliance in that episode. Though many fans were glad to see Noah and Izzy on a team together again in World Tour, just as many were disappointed that Eva wasn't included, considering it to be a wasted opportunity.
* Harold was a fan favorite since Island, where he had a great blend of being hilarious comic relief, showing off hidden badass, and a fair amount of CharacterDevelopment. While he wasn't expected to make it far, he was out earlier than most would have liked and many vouched for his return. Come Action he became a far more prominent character which was very well received, with many rooting for either him or Lindsay to win the season. However World Tour sought to make him an early elimination once more, being out second, despite being one of the most loved members of Team Victory. However, he does go on to have heavy focus in the Aftermaths.

* Geoff, while not exactly a minor character, has never really been a prptagonist either. Though nonetheless is one of the most beloved characters in Island for being the BigFun party guy who is kind towards everyone. Action however sought to dampen his reputation due to his hosting of the Aftermath causing him to gain a more unlikeable side. She's one of the most heavily used characters for fanfiction and FanArt.
* Dakota was considered by many to be a very interesting character, with her AttentionWhore DaddysGirl characterization being due to IJustWantToHaveFriends a desire to be loved. She also received a substantial amount of CharacterDevelopment when forced to be Chris' intern and getting into a relationship with Sam. Her horrendous mutation in "The Treasure Island of Dr. [=McLean=]" garnered her a lot of sympathy and requests for her to be restored to normal.

* B was the third eliminated in the season and never talks, but still has a pretty good-sized fanbase. His GadgeteerGenius status and ability to wordlessly come up with some very creative strategies made for some of the coolest moments in the early part of the season, and many also loved his quiet, confident attitude. He's a pretty popular contestant for competition fics and often makes it far in those stories.

* Beardo, of all characters, has a decent sized fanbase. The one episode he appeared in was highly entertaining due to the silly sound effects he made at inopportune times. His audition tape, which shows some HiddenDepths in that he uses his sound effects because he's shy, further endeared him to the fanbase.
* Samey the Good Twin. Despite being yet another rootable blonde that the series is fond of doing, Samey caught the attention of many through the significant amount of CharacterDevelopment she received in the span of just five episodes. Her moe status evoked sympathy to a fair share of the fandom and how she eventually got back at her bully sister, although her actual act of revenge by pulling a TwinSwitch has received mixed reception.
* Ella has had a similar reception to Dawn. She's a blessing to music lovers with her incessant singing, showing off the talent of Sunday Muse and leading to many funny moments. There's also the fact she is the nicest character in the entire franchise, with a complete avoidance of violence and aggressiveness. Her elimination is considered one of the best (and saddest) in the series, where she departs on a song.
* Scarlett, while allegedly the BigBad, was severely underused. She's one of the more loved 'nerd' characters, both design wise and due to her SesquipedalianLoquaciousness character shtick. Her hidden psychotic antagonistic side was also a pretty refreshing take for some fans, even if it only lasted one episode. She proved to be one of, if not the darkest, villain in the series. There are some still vouching for her return despite the difficult circumstances given her likely arrest.

* Katie is also surprisingly popular despite being the fifth contestant out and not getting any focus outside of her friendship with Sadie. This is probably due to her being very kind and attractive, which makes her more popular than Sadie (who had a few JerkAss moments despite being very kind overall) even though they more or less serving the same character role. Sadly this was not enough to ever get her back as a contestant.

What hatebase? From what I've seen Samey is one of the most consistantly beloved PI characters.

* Samey the Good Twin. Despite her hatebase being quite vocal, Samey has consistently ranked high in polls. I'm sure Ezekiel fans do exist. But he was always one of the most polarizing characters, even back in TDI. In a season full of fan favorites, at best he's Base Breaking Character.

* Ezekiel has a surprising number of fans despite being a StrawMisogynist who was intended as early elimination fodder. Part of this has to do with him being considered UnintentionallySympathetic as a result of his social naivety, and the fandom seeing potential for CharacterDevelopment as a result of his beloved role as the main character of the Fanfic/TotalDramaComebackSeries. The writers' apparent hatred for him and his subsequent, immensely hated feral transformation have only increased his sympathy, and many fans hope he can be reverted back to normal and get the development he deserves.

I wouldn't call him 'beloved' considering how much hate he got even back in TDI. Ezekiel fans are pretty localized to certain parts of the internet and not very widespread
