* YouKeepUsingThatWord: Despite being known as an oil, the noivag is actually far from being one, much closer to a jam. It's creator, however, believed that oil sounded better, so it stuck.

The series will follow the stories on the Damsol, a world that underwent a series of technolgic advancements thanks to the discovery of the noivag, a substance that can mana, and the simmavi, alchemics gems that can channel it.
The main focus of the series will be the study of magic and technology in that world, and the political struggles when factions try use such advancements and use them to create and manipulate international tensions (and, possibly, start wars).

it. Also, the world is made by three parts (body, soul and will), each one that can fuel a different kind of magic, with its specific wizards (warriors are those who can use body magic, priests soul magic and arcanists will magic). Body magic costs ''way'' less than the other two (allowing warriors not to wear themselves out by using it while they fight), but at the same time is much more rude and direct the effects, mostly manipulating the surroundings or buffing/debuffing others; soul magic costs a bit less than will magic and is more indirect in its effects, but it's also the most reliable one; will intead has the wider range of effects but has to be used very carefully and to consider exactly what the arcanists wants and how to obtain it, to avoid undesired consequences (it must be noted that all the three of them could theoritically obtain the same things, but the nature of each of them made each one more or less suited for certain uses), a limit of magic, however, is that permanent incantations aren't possible.
Wizards are far more common than most settings, since it's quite common to know only a little of it or specific effects, and also everyone being able to possibly learn every kind of magic.

* VillainousLegacy: Nester Lartis. By the time the first book starts, he's been dead for over two hundreds year, and yet his actions still keeps influencing the world. Just two mention two ways, Uren is explicitaly using him as an inspiration and the Indexers are actually emulating Laster's followers and collecting his writings, and the Dragonmen was one of Lartis students (and owner of many of the aformentioned writings).

to:

* Really700YearsOld: Due to the draconids' potential immortality, they usually leave a couple of centuries at the very least. Korshel is the one fitting this trope, since he is old enough to remember when the dragons still existed.
* RightForTheWrongReasons: Soras is a nice and caring ruler to his people, human and draconids alike, but he ''is'' looking for an excuse to start a second war with the Continent.
* SchizoTech: Althought the technology level itself is consistant, thanks to magic they have knowledge far beyond the one that should be possible (miscroscopical and astrological observation, for example, are both made possible, despite the absence of actual microscopes or telescopes).
* SufficientlyAnalyzedMagic: Averted. While Magic is studied, analyzed ''and'' quantified, to the point of there being a measure unit for mana (wich is also called mana), and also a difference between the raw magical energy and the amount of refined magical energy actually produced (''both'' are general also named mana, [[LampshadeHanging in-universe that's recognized to be a very poor naming convention]], yet it's somehow effective, and it everyone's used to it), wizards being given ''stats'' (''cloack'', the amount of mana a wizard has, and ''efficency'', the amount of refined mana they produce from a raw one, with some sub-stats). Zig-zagged, however, since some principles behind magic, there are no actual, defined laws. logical and not actually quantifiable, magic can be influenced by unquantifiable stats (emotions, personality and atmosphere all can change how a specific spell work), and efficiency is always at least one, wich is noted to be inconsistent with the principle of conservaion of energy observed for everything else, setting magic aside from science also in-universe. Actually, finding out if they exist in the first place how much TheScientificMethod can be applied to magic is known as "the fundamental problem".

* WellIntentionedExtremist: Soras doesn't really want to expand Duknai's dominion (and knows it won't last forever). His real goal is to motivate the draconids to spread and populate the Damsol once again, possibly bringing back the dragons themselves.

Badass is being disambiguated.

* Badass: Draconeers, the absolute top of the afromentioned Duknai's army. They have the (actually true) fame of being soldiers trained to take down a city on their own. Very few reach that rank, almost all of them being draconids, but those who ''aren't'' deserves a special mention.
** Lyunaji are similar. They are basically Jeanna's equivalent of the draconeers, even if not as powerful.

** Other noticeable are the Dragonman, an old and powerful (once) human wizard who transformed himself into a dragonkind; Sedvain, hellbent on becoming the ultimate hunter (and, arguably, already succeded), who enjoyis hunting TheMostDangerousGame and turned the Qlannevad, a forest so wide it's name actually means "green ocean" into his own hunting park simply because no one dares challenging him; and the Norrit, a necromancer whose speciality is the study of poison (natural or magical) and whose magic altered his body making him unbelievably though and immune to any kind of venom, drug or disease, his own blood became a powerful, the only person known to have been hunted by the aformentioned Sedvain (twice) and lived to tell the tale.

Misuse. It\'s Genre Savvy, not just \"savvy\".

* GenreSavvy: Uren is well aware Makrsha will dispose of him, sooner or later. In return, Makrsha knows that, in time, Uren will try to eliminate it, either [[TheStarscream going Starscream]] or to save himself. Also, they both know the other knows and don't try to hide it, and actually quite regret that things will have to go that way.

Added DiffLines:

Damsol will hopefully be an italian DungeonPunk series by Matteo Bortolotti.

!!''Damsol'' will contain examples of:

* AuthorAvatar: Although I'd say I'm modelling myself after Janhar, not the other way around. But it still fits the trope.
* BadassArmy: Dukani and Laedor both have one. The former is the greatest military power in the whole Damsol, the only one with draconids (and it's human soldiers are trained to keep up with them), the latter puts more emphasis on tactics, coordination and integration of wizards in its ranks, but still deserves the trope.
* BigBad: Soras is seen as one in-universe, but see DesignatedVillain and OrcusOnHisThrone below. Uren and the indexers actually fit this trope.
** Also, in the first book the Dalmo's Abducter, who does ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin.
* BiggerBad: Nester Lartis.
** Also, Makrsha.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Janhar. A necromancer completely dressed in black and with a lot of spell manipulating [[CastingAShadow shadows and darkness]], and most definitely one of the good guys.
** Heimro, leader of Duknai's secret service and the one acting to preserve world peace, and is a black-scaled draconids.
* DamnedByFaintPraise: Inverted with Janhar and Dela: he lacks of finesse and she of power, but only if compared one to the other. In absolute terms, they both are strong ''and'' skilled wizards.
* TheDreaded: Nester Lartis is one centuries after his death.
** To a lesser degree, draconeers and lyunaji outside their countires.
* DungeonPunk
* EldritchAbomination: Makrsha, a disembodied conscience with no phisical host or location whatsoever, that people can perceive only if it's talking directly to them. They also feel some kind of ancient power behind it.
** A similar, but benign example is the Conscience, a wizard that separated her mind from her body to [[GeniusLoci fuse it with a forestal area]] five hundred years ago. It's the only being that can live in the Qlannevad without consent, retained some magical abilities and can move through living beings (it usually does it by possessing plants), also it's own presence made the animals living in the area it's possessing develop humanlike intelligence and the ability to speak.
* TheEmpire: Duknai it's considered by the Continent to be a military dictatorship, but it's mostly propaganda and exasperating some internal dissentions.
* Fantastic Racism: With humanity made of six actual races, each one with unique traits, some ensues. Averted, however, with humans and the draconids: the latter hold some grudge, but toward the one on the Continent specifically, and for historical reasons (centuries before, they hunted dragons to extinction, and draconids only survived because some managed to flee to Duknai).
* FantasticScience: Noivag and simmavi both have a whole branch of science dedicated to studying them.
* FantasyGunControl: Averted. While actual gunpowder does not exist, simmavi are used to create the equivalent of guns, rifles, flamethrowers and cannons.
* GoodIsNotNice: Heimro is not above manipulating people, among the other things.
* HalfHumanHybrids: Draconids, half-human and half-dragons. Also, the Dragonman, who isn't an actual one but became like them through magical experiments (and vivisection of actual draconids). They gave him the nickname to remember that, no matter what he does, he's ''not'' one of them (he himslef uses it to identify himself as superior).
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Actually a title, but "gholfodar" counts for those who deserved it, it means something along the lines of "undefeatable threat". It's draconic, meaning it was an undefeatable threat for ''dragons''. And while dragons are no more, the standards to deserve the title haven't lessened one bit.
** One of the draconeers is best known as "Death's Whisper".
** Norritt, or ''the'' Norritt. His actual name is Ezira Korhan Trime, "norritt" is an ancient word for a posion or illness spreading and killing everything around.
** Inverted with Nester Lartis. Nester was a name just like any other back then, he came to have a really omnious meaning because it was ''his'' name.
* [[PlanetOfHats Nations Of Hats]]: Downplayed, but a few of them: Dukani's hat is military proficiency, Laedor's arcane magic, Nivanna's science, Jeanna's trading and Leria's stoicism.
* NeverFoundtheBody/HesJustHiding: Many still claims it about Nester Lartis, since the body disintegrated when he supposedly died and his essence was never found in the Remsi. Even if it's rare to actually find someone in the Remsi, many believe it's not a coincidence. [[spoiler: It isn't, however they are wrong and he actually died that day.]]
* OrcusOnHisThrone: Soras. He ultimately does want a worldwide war, but is adamant on Duknai not starting it and generally just not very proactive. Lampshaded by both him and Heimro.
* PosthumousCharacter: Nester Lartis.
* SufficientlyAnalyzedMagic: Averted. While there are general principles behind magic, there are no actual, defined laws. Actually, finding out if they exist in the first place is known as "the fundamental problem".
* VitriolicBestBuds: Janhar and Irra.
* Whateveromancy: In-universe, "-mancy" comes from "Mantya", an ancient word for magic that it's also where "mana" comes from, so it means "related to mana/magic", justifying it a bit (also, the reason there are "oilmancy" and "gemmomancy", the study of noivag and simmavi respectively, despite neither of them being magic).
* YouKeepUsingThatWord: Despite being known as an oil, the noivag is actually far from being one, much closer to a jam. It's creator, however, believed that oil sounded better, so it stuck.
